  1. Not directly reported but mentioned in passing back in February in the 'Dave Godin' Deep soul CD thread. I was quite shocked and asked Paul Mooney about it who had been in regular contact with her. Paul knows the background but she was delighted by the belated recognition she received for the 45 and Cd that was put out. Mike
  2. I played it at the Coachman one night Kev - you were not paying attention!
  3. and to top it all they were just about at the end of the recording session and Eddie Hinton walked in .....
  4. and this isn't even on the Safety Zone album !!!!
  5. Knew you would of slipped the 'The New Born Free' in somewhere Kev!!
  6. I have two other Oscar Toney Jnr South African Stateside 45's JSS 1170 & 1204 (which is Dark green rather than black) Got them of Denny Johnson when he was working over there and picking up some interesting stuff - he use to pass the 'Deeper' stuff onto me
  7. Noticed the item location was Dubai United Arab Emirates - it was a well known fact that they would press up vinyl records and dump them in the desert to use up surplus oil. And it follows that with the rare Deep soul scene over there - started by the ex-pat Dutch workers - they would choose tasty titles and artists like Sam Dees !
  8. there is also a very credible LP only version by Walter 'Wolfman' Washington - Michael Charlton has been known to spin it out from time to time ...oh and of course album only for Loleatta Holloway's version too
  9. Can you imagine when you were 18 and daft as brush coming home from Wigan or the Mecca with a full dinner service !!!
  10. and not forgetting 'Cream Of The Crop' !
  11. I can just picture the three of you at the bar Mike
  12. think I would of included 'Soul Serenade' too !
  13. And you should go back to school and learn to read properly - Matt was not suggesting playing 'Cry To Me' but 'Casanova' from the 'Cry To Me' album You also corrected him about 'I Can't Help Myself' - but you also mis-read that - he was suggesting it as an alternative to 'Casanova' and was saying 'tongue in cheek' was it on 45?
  14. was on 45 too Matt
  15. do you mean the Darrell Banks version?
  16. Well Rod it is a long time since any of those were on a record shop shelf , Mike
  17. Etta James & Sugar Pie DeSanto
  18. Do you believe it Sean ? - across the four Turbo albums and all the 45's there was only about 18 tracks used - I'm sure if they had other material they would of used at least some of it at the time if not to cash in later. Would be nice though

  20. Use to love all that mid 80's stuff that came out on Slash and the likes - Blasters, Violent Femmes , Los Lobos et - with the Robert Cray and all the 'Paisley underground ' and the emerging IRS R.E.M. there was some fine music emanating from the US. I think Jack white has followed on in they footsteps to some degree. Mike
  21. You don't often see this photo...nice change from the usual one...
  22. some more images of various Linda Jones releases...
  23. Does not Eric Burdon live in Joshua Tree ? for years I believe. And also Mark Olsen out of the Jayhawks - so it must have something!
  24. Indeed it was. Don't worry Ian - I'll do the same for you - but I'll burn your body at the back of the Wigan Shopping Centre
