  1. I have the following three - Out of Sight, Out of Mind: American Soul 1966-1972 In the Still of the Night: The Doo-Wop Groups 1951-1962 Ooh Poo Pah Doo: Early Sixties Soul 1960-1965 Great albums and yes I picked mine up in Woolworths via their Woolco store - remember those ? it it was their attempt at 'Super Stores' Mike
  2. Moerer has just sold a VG- copy tonight for $355.955 - writing all over it allegedly autographed !
  3. That's because it is a different song and record than the one 'wanted' by the original poster. Both records are by Big Maybelle but because they both have 'Lord' in the title does not mean they are the same!
  4. Makes you wonder why the mystery about the record and its discovery when RCA put an advert in the music press describing it as 'that drivin' Detroit beat' !!!!
  5. I think the likes of Dusty and Georgie Fame have always been accepted by Soul fans - the 60's pop artists were entrenched in US music and the producers and A&R men were so so on the ball. What I don't like is the trend in recent years ifor pop artists to go out to make a 'Soul' album - Cliff Richard, Hucknall ,Stone et al . Why do we need interpretations of Soul music. I don't think the 60's artists went out to interpret 'soul' - they went out to make good music and it sounded Soulful because of the material and their influences. IMHO. Mike
  6. Robin - Charisma band for a fiver ? 85p in Fearnleys when it came out - should of moved to the 'boro earlier! Mike
  7. Never understand the point of sales like this - i.e sold as a OK for DJing, if it has been owned and played out by so many of the big name DJ's over the past 20 years or so surely it is a 'played out' oldie? what kudos would be gained by playing it? what pleasure would be gained by owning it and playing it on your Hi Fi at home? Think I would rather hear an underplayed Curtis Mayfield track! Mind I do find it interesting hearing about its history on the scene - and others like it - from those who were around at the time. Mike
  8. You're a hard man Bob
  9. Indeed he was - a great guitarist, The band was once known as John Lee's Groundhogs supporting John Lee Hooker and others in the 60's. And of course they recorded a 'Northern' hit of their own on Planet - I'll Never Fall In Love Again..... Mike
  10. Indeed it is John - often wondered who did these versions - thanks. The box set is worth getting for the Sam Dees track - alone. Mike
  11. Can anyone list all the various Goldwax designs and their vintage? Mike
  12. Yes I think the days of Postman Pat have long gone - the posties on my round work like slaves - if they are taking short cuts its because of the pressure of work I would think. And i'm not going to report them for putting a package through the letter box without a signature - it makes no difference to me. The alternative is for them to put a card through the door then I have to wait 24 hours before driving across town to stand in a queue with proof of ID - so they are doing me a favour, IMHO. Mike
  13. you must let us know what beer you drink if it makes Ruth Swann sound superb
  14. Saw the Dennis Edwards line-up in Feb this year at the Beacon in New York - not a bad show. Enchantment were on the the same bill and they were a very pleasant surprise Mike
  15. In Britain they take the memory card and put the camera back in the bag

  18. He retired to Macon and continued to dabble with Southern Rock - he was a key player with the likes of Lynard Skynard in the 70's after Capricorn Mike
  19. A Mecca classic....R.I.P.
  20. Why you can't leave negative feedback for a buyer I don't know - it takes two to tango - I rarely sell on ebay only buy but would be very happy for it to be re-introduced. Mike
  21. Thanks for posting these up Chalky - fantastic to watch them work. I have a Fender Telecaster and I don't even know which end to hold it Really looking forward to Saturday. Mike
  22. Because a record is recorded by a white person and is played on the Northern scene it does mean it is 'Blue Eyed Soul'.
  23. Great start, thanks Alan. Still a few designs missing and Tollie distributed for some releases.
