  1. Yes but I blame that on Gary Pelley !
  2. Poor old Al Wilson - he always had his eye on something beyond the pigeon hole that was 'Soul' and his musical output reflects that - a bit like OC Smith, Freddie Scott, Nolan Porter and few others (to these ears of course). Take the album from which 'The Snake was taken - 'Searching For The Dolphins' - never a Soul song by the great Fred Neil and made famous by Tim Buckley (Poor Side Of Town was the flip of the Al Wilson version too). So how people can say 'the Snake' - in the context of that album or his output - is a terrible song I don't know, its a very, very clever song indeed! Because it was adopted by the UK Northern scene and played to death ever since was not his fault and he probably never even had the consolation of making any money out of it to boot!! Mike
  3. I think you are right Rob, but Soul lost its way when Disco appeared - it was the beginning of the end - and B&S just reflected that. Mike
  4. Blues & Soul was vital to any soul fan in the early 70's in the UK - you would pick it up at your local record store when buying this weeks new US and UK releases. Black Music and Black Echoes diluted its importance eventually of course, but those involved in B&S were all important in establishing Soul Music in the UK - Godin, Abbey , Nathan etc. It spawned the great Contempo Record store in Hanway St in London (and of course Godin had Soul City latterly in Monouth Street) shop. Plus record labels like Mojo and Contempo. I guess it taught that generation (i.e. my) of Soul fans everything! Think I bought my last one in 1977 (and i'm another that believes Soul quickly disappeared thereafter) - I then bought the 1000 issue for old times sake in 2007(?) and it immediately went bust!!! One irony of B&S was that for a spell it was printed in Middlesbrough which at the time when I was growing I thought was the most Soulless place in the country!! Mike
  5. He predicted it!!! Mike

  9. Yes I was there in Feb this year and it was very cold! Check out the Beacon Theatre it often has soul revues on - we caught Cuba Gooding (Main Ingredient), Stylistics. Delfonics, Dennis Edwards Tempts and Enchanment (who were very good indeed). Mike
  10. Dave - where is this place of which you speak? Mike
  11. I guess it won't make much difference on big ticket items but it will be the end of the road I would think for buyers of cheap items like myself. How much will an LP be out of interest Bob? You already get landed for VAT and handling if you buy one for >$25

  15. This one on youtube has a different label layout to the one I'm familiar with (ie the one i have) and the track playing is the one with crowd noise - maybe that's the way to tell? Mind I prefer the more hard driving guitar intro myself :O) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPnXPe3JT1s
  16. 'Pretty Little Sweet Thing' on Minit - one of the first soul 45's I was aware of via my brother's collection - still have it. R.I.P. Mike
  17. Bob Hite had a massive collection of Blues records - the attached mentions how he never stopped expanding his collection - seems highly likely he would 000's of records of no value to him back then! https://subrosa.itcmedia.net/en/catalogue/fundamental/doctor-boogie-presents.html;jsessionid=519F5A47FC54E6245212310275C0D22B Nice story Ian Mike
  18. would of thought in 150 years it will have seen a lot more than a few Northern Soul nights
  19. Amazing how their name always gets written wrong - on the first photograph alone it is 'Tornadoes' and 'Toronados' ! both are wrong? as is 'Tornados' It is 'Toronadoes' isn't it?
  20. Thanks Jaco !
  21. I can't believe he has them in a stack without the covers and is touching the playing surfaces - I wouldn't do that to my ten bob collection!
  22. I don't have a Manship price guide so what would the value of this lot be based on that guide? Mike
  23. Well we'll agree to disagree - but one point I would like to clarify - did not demand that the thread be closed - I wrote - 'I think this thread should be closed'. Mike
  24. I do feel sorry for sellers like Chris - he was going about HIS business selling HIS records on ebay , he didn't list them on here - he didn't mention he was selling them on here. Why should he? Now people are demanding that he answers questions and explain his sales history. Why should he respond to anyone on here? However, he did, clearly someone gave him the nod about this thread and he was good enough to come on here and explain and even left his mobile phone number (which I would never do under any circumstances) - so give him a call if you have any concerns. From what I can see he has a good feedback record on ebay and I'll figure it out myself before I bid. I'm all for looking out for one another but I've said it before you don't have to buy from him (or anyone on ebay) - you pays your money you takes your choice. Unless anyone has anything to say to the contrary I think this thread should be closed. Mike
