Any Bb Holes In Boots?
Think the hole resembles the hole created by a BB gun - I guess the US name for an air gun. BB does not stand for ball bearing but 'BB' is the size of shotgun shot used in the original guns - think it is coincidental that some guns are able to fire the 'correct' size ball bearings! re 'SIC' - not seen it myself to indicate condition - are you sure the sellers are not just using it in its true sense i.e. to indicate it is written as is? The Motown 7S Box Set: Rare And Unused
Brian, Played my Temptations on my old Nad (Rega) turntable and it jumped all over the place. I then played it on my Project RPM 5 (which I had just setup) and it played fine. So I would guess it is dependent on what your playing it on, but clearly it is badly pressed. Mike

The Motown 7S Box Set: Rare And Unused
That's what I meant Rod, i.e tracks never previously released on 45 or only available on album. My first preference would of been album tracks - like Bobby Taylor, Originals or Gladys Knight. But on second thoughts what's the point if you have the albums? So I agree, it should of been exclusively previously unreleased tracks. Whatever the choice of tracks - surely there was room for Gladys? if I was compiling compilations from now until next Christmas I could never include Diana Ross ahead of her. And Pete's right that Stevie Wonder is bloody awful. Mike

The Motown 7S Box Set: Rare And Unused
I thought they had with Ace/Kent Paul ? They have put out some nice bits and pieces. re the FW - not only shows a lack of imagination - it's illogical as it has already had three UK releases on 45. I thought the point was previously unreleased tracks on 45.

Remember Otis
the difference being Hank Williams felt over 60 when he died !!!!

Remember Otis
I think he would of went the business route and only an occasional performer - bit like Jerry Butler I guess. By 26 he was a publisher, writer, a mentor to many with his own label. He had already branched out from the standard soul formula post Monterey. Couldn't see him slogging around the circuit for all these years. Whatever, a genius took too soon, R.I.P. Otis. Mike

The Motown 7S Box Set: Rare And Unused
I'm not one of the people who says "oh, that's a nice cheapie, you can pick it up for about £50..." ......and I don't believe..... "Like spending £50 is just like loose change or something". It's not what I said, but what I did say everyone knows I said it. Mike

The Motown 7S Box Set: Rare And Unused
Sod's law !!! There are two on ebay at the moment ending over the weekend - have a pop at them before you send it back. Even then the package with a duplicate has got to be worth £45. Hope you get sorted.

The Motown 7S Box Set: Rare And Unused
Keep it - its a nice thing in its own right. Sell on the spare McNair and look out for a MG - people will break up the box and sell on. Then of course you might pick up another set. £45 is not a lot of money in the scheme of things for even an incomplete package, just take what pleasure you can from it. Mike

Drill Holes In Records?
Are there any instances of drill holes in pressings, boots, look-a-likes - in order to give them some authenticity or 'provenance'?

Abraham, Martin, John - Doh
the other side is grim listening 'The Victors' - he recites a list of serviceman killed in action! Tamla Motown first - then Mowest. My brother was always partial to it!

Joss Stone Does Anover Cover
Far be it for me to defend her - but the Dells didn't write it either - please compare like with like - you can't criticise her for the lack of her own material when the 'preferred' version was not written by the performers either. Mike

The Motown 7S Box Set: Rare And Unused
Kev- Yes mine looks strange but does play right through OK. Regarding the mix - I've never been that sure of it - I can see why it was never released, can't imagine that instrumental bridge going down well at the Monday morning meeting either! Played through most of it and only the Temptations is obviously faulty. Mike

But Steve - think how less stressful it would be - you don't have to worry if the Marvin Gaye is missing or if a few skip - you can live in blissful ignorance and just sit and admire it!!

The Motown 7S Box Set: Rare And Unused
now now Steve I was only trying to add some information (and reassurance to the discussion) - and just think if yours is not OK I will finally have a record you have not got!!!

Jason you could always break the box set up and sell them individually - I know one UK dealer was selling individual singles from the Numero box set (45 singles for $250) for £100 each!!!

-
The Motown 7S Box Set: Rare And Unused
So has anyone had two Marvin Gayes? - if not where have they gone and why are there extras of Barbara McNair and not the others? are we to see a thriving market for 'spares' akin to the 100 club 45s?
-
Bobby Bland-Im So Tired
nice record Jason - when you say original only - was it booted or counterfeited ? I tend to pick up Bobby's 45's if I see them without giving it second thought that they are illegal? Mike
