  1. As I have said I'm not a fan of Oxfam - but I don't blame them in this instance - he advises and .......'manages to get the best stuff himself' ....I'm sure he does and I suspect the punter then pays top dollar from him.....rather than get lucky in a charity shop
  2. I don't understand this Chris - what's your point?
  3. Oxfam have this sewn up now, clearly managed centrally - they even have specialist book/record stores and or sections now. I can appreciate that but it is a bit annoying when they use the Record Collector book for the price but then omit to adjust the price based on the condition ready reckon-er in the very same book!! That book has made every second hand record dealer (and Soul hater) an instant Soul expert!!!
  4. I do agree with you Steve - it's not a work of genius - but to put it in context - just think if it turned up now in these limited quantities, it wouldn't be considered so shabby. And don't forget when it was played circa '75 it was alongside the likes of Mel Britt, Anderson Brothers, Josie Jo Armstead, Bobby Hutton, Candi Staton etc etc- oh for another year like that eh? It also puzzles me how it is considered overplayed - it is surely one of the rarest of the rare and if you don't go to a night were the 'so called' dreaded 500 are played on pressings and re-issues - where are you going to hear it ? - surely not at the OVO and/or 'cutting edge' venues? The last time I remember hearing it Searling played over ten years ago at the Orwell.
  5. Thought 'Easy Living' was Steve Mancha/Holidays ??
  6. All these things as new releases were massive back in the day - by 76/77 exclusively so at the Blackpool Mecca. There was a far more eclectic mix back then with far less navel gazing and worrying about or emphasis on rareness. But there again it was a very young crowd out to enjoy themselves!
  7. 'Real' ones too - no fake rubbish!!! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Northern-Soul-Plectrum-Presentation-Wigan-Casino-Sunwheel-Motown-/321361229904?pt=UK_Music_Music_Memorabilia_LE&hash=item4ad29f3850
  8. Has a nice Jnr Parker feel about it...to these ears!
  9. Putting aside what the actual record is, I don't believe for a minute that anybody is paying that kind of money because of the write up. Yes, buy it because of the condition and provenance he guarantees but not because of the flannel about Wigan and Judy being a 'head turning beauty'!! There is nobody who is willing to spend £400 on a Northern soul record who hasn't heard of 'What' and who has not made up their own mind why they want to buy it and what it means to them. Mike
  10. Would anyone buy Judy Street for £400+ on the basis of John's write up?
  11. from a US point of view the Delilah Moore 'It Takes Love' has a massive gap between 45 & LP
  12. It's A Shame - The Spinners
  13. How can you prove you didn't make a payment? Bizarre!
  14. An ironic choice Rod, because there is a bit of contention as to who played guitar - Johnny 'guitar' Watson or Lowell George? your attendance would of been able to confirm it one way or the other :o) it is also ironic in that a lot of the session men were an assortment of old hippies and ex Mothers Of invention - not your normal Soul 'heroes', but of course Nolan was not your regular Soul man or even saw himself as one!
  15. Good call Dave - same studios for me. But the day in '62 when Johnny Jenkins' young driver stepped up to the mic and launched into 'These Arms Of Mine' . No room for Cropper on guitar - he played the triplets on piano. The legend that is Otis and quite possibly Southern Soul was born - and the rest is history!
  16. Ooops sorry - missed that - but I was not wrong and it hasn't been screened yet :o)
  17. Oh no - another nine pages of bile when that is eventually screened :o(
  18. I'm not doubting quality Labeat - but over the two pages I don't think there are that many listed that's all !
  19. Actually its not really a lot for a 10 year period is it? Take out the Butch cover-ups and things like Joseph Webster (played nearer 25 years ago) and the Poets (20 years ago) and your not left with many at all!
  20. Are you selling the empty box Mal ? When you say 'Land Of Now' is going for silly money - do you mean the original? because a well known UK dealer is selling a re-issue like yours for £100 now that is really silly money!!!!
  21. The one 45 I would never part with Jocko!
  22. Yes 'Pop-in' Paul. It was just along from where Jack Hatfield's still is now, corner of Ruby St maybe?
  23. No - it was Bob's 'adult' book shop on Borough road - was one of those places that got a consignment of US imports - 000's of Verve, MGM, Capitol stuff got a load of Bobby Bland Duke's , Little Milton's on checker, Elmore James and Tommy Yates (Tate) 'Something's Got To Give'!!
  24. Quite possibly the finest double sider ever!!!
  25. There was a shop in Middlesbrough Kev back in the 70's had dozens of these on Renee - 10p !!!!
