  1. I have heard it said before now that Dan Penn's guide' vocal was still audible on the track Gareth
  2. Lee Moses was the one I meant Soulfreak - not Lee Bates! Great double sider with the Dark End side done in the style of Clarence Carter's version....
  3. Pre mp3 for me John - bought it on a family holiday in Orlando - 1994 !!!!!
  4. A great version too - from a great CD - it was actually released in 1994 John. Highly recommended
  5. ah one of my favourite subjects - I once put together a c90 of all the versions I could find........... As well as the above check out Willie Hobbs, Phil Dino, Lee Bates, Oscar Toney Jnr, Bobby King & Terry Evans Also check out the many Country and rock versions....... Ry Cooder (voc & inst) Flying Burrito Brothers, Mud Boy & Thr Neutrons, Richard & Linda Thompson, Cat Power.............................................. all of these off the top of my head - i have a list somewhere... Mike
  6. Maybe not hen's teeth from '73.....one here.... I guess GRT were trying to re-promote the back catalog under the Janus banner after purchasing Chess records - they eventually sold it on to All Platinum.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Dells-Sampler-RARE-1973-PROMO-ONLY-LP-NEAR-MINT-/370642319782?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item564c00f9a6 Seems to be a few different ones e.g....... https://www.ebay.com/itm/CHESS-JANUS-LP-SAMPLER-CHUCK-BERRY-BO-DIDDLEY-MUDDY-WATERS-ARETHA-DELLS-/310666432249?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item4855298ef9
  7. Has it taken you 8 years to come up with that response Shuggie61?
  8. But he could insist on Paypal as a gift only - that would make him a few bob more
  9. I've always found Mojo to be more artist/music orientated rather than interested in this kind of thing - Fred Dellar excepted.
  10. My apologies for starting another Frank Wilson discussion in the middle of this joyous occasion. I was simply using DILY as an analogy - in a self deprecating way - of a record collecting event as unlikely to happen as England winning the World Cup. Sorry!!!! Mike
  11. Super record. One of those about in abundance in the 70's along with loads of Howard Tate and the like on Verve.
  12. Now that it is established that it was actually pressed - surely there is no way there is only one? Can't imagine only one person in the chain secreted one away- Pressing plant, Label, A&R, promotions, the press, radio stations and DJ's etc . Didn't the demo's all turn up in a box in one place? Chris Savory or someone? Maybe all the hardened London collectors are laughing at us 'idiot' Soul fans!
  13. Probably more likely to find a 'stock' copy of Frank Wilson than that!
  14. When it was discussed on here a while back as to who's version was the best DB or J.J. Barnes, I said............................. Darrell Banks is the epitome of Northern Soul - for me it defines the whole thing.... ....A 60's UK release (on the iconic Stateside label) ....A legendary promo only release on an earlier UK label (London) ....A non Motown Detroit release (on Revilot ) ....A fantastic double sider with Open the Door (maybe the best double sider ever) ....A truly great Soul Man and Singer........................................One 45 ...anyone asks about Northern Soul - give them a copy Now we can add a single UK issue copy on London that has been hidden away for just shy of 50 years!!!!!!!
  15. Always completely ignored by Northern Soul fans - don't know why. But since 'Loving By The Pound' quite a few things seem to get an outing - don't know why.
  16. Robb reduces Ellen Barkin to tears with his name the flipside game......'who gives a shit whats on the flip side of record!!!.......................:o) Mike
  17. Jimmy - I think John was just trying to answer your question. But also the PO inform you (by delivering a card) that payment is due and store the item in their depot. They then collect the fee and pass it on. They need to employ people to do this - why would they do it for free? Mike
  18. . ..Eddie Levert, Walter Williams and Eric Grant
  19. I saw them in Nevada in 2010. Great show - almost totally black audience - lots of jokes about 'white folks' inc the band - so I suspect Eddie Levert's humour - and he was very funny - will be modified for the UK! They sang... Give The people what they Want, People Get Ready, Love Train, Backstabbers, Stairway To heaven, I Love Music, Hooks in Me, Use to be My girl, For The Love Of Money....Mike
  20. I'll set 'em up Dave - you hit 'em! I'd forgot about that - nice version - wonder how it came about and why unissued?
  21. the budget version of Safe As Milk I have came out on Marble Arch and like a lot of those releases had two tracks missing - one of which was this track - 'I'm Glad ' !!! It was sometime before I realised what I was missing!
  22. Deep Soul all day day long for me.......
  23. I'm told it is a boot. I bought one off the the US dealer then was reliably informed by someone close to Kent in the UK it was not legit so asked for a refund. I guess I should of known better - I have the Bill Brandon 45 and it is titled 'Tag Tag' and of course it is on the Sam Dees Kent CD. You have to wonder why you would boot something like this?
  24. I really fancied a trip up for that John - its just up the road and she wiill be great in a small venue I'm sure. Fair play to them - you would never get an act of this calibre in a small club unless you paid a premium - the tickets are similiar prices at her only other dates in the UK at Ronnie Scotts. And I believe any profits will go to charity. Mind, Lonnie Liston Smith is on at the same venue next month for £10 a ticket!
