  1. The version on the flip of Day Tripper - 601005 - is the studio take. It also came out on UK Stax 601011 flip of 634 5789 - that is the live take. Incidentally, 601005 is one of those handful of UK Stax 45's that came out on the darker blue label.....
  2. probably dubbed off the US release...
  3. It's a big problem Pete on many TV shows and movies these days ...and it's not just our failing hearing as we get older..... https://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/may/01/jamaica-inn-bbc-strategy-chief-sound
  4. Are all PIR Demos same both sides mono/stereo?
  5. Always a hard record to find - I needed it to complete my Atlantic 45's on Bettye -I eventually prised Mike Charlton's copy out of him - he played it at Soul Essence well over 10 years ago. I swapped it for a Jap copy of the Smoke album. I eventually got a second copy which I let Mike have back in another trade - Iguess we were valuing it around the £40 mark....
  6. Pete - it think it is actually aligned 'correctly' - all the text is right justified as it is on normal Wand issues.....
  7. I don't Karen Pete - so can't see her page on Facebook or any discussion threads - so I hadn't realised that the culprits were known - makes my post somewhat superfluous!!
  8. The worrying thing Gary is that somebody who knows you has either done it or has passed on the details to others. Yes, you might have mentioned you were away on Facebook - but no way has a stranger come across that fact, decided you must have a collection worth stealing then found out where you live , gone to your house and just stolen the records!
  9. I was in Durham NC a few weeks back - my grandson was born there on 23 Aug - and I stumbled across this exhibition at the History hub in the city centre. What a pleasant surprise and really well done, probably the best thing of its kind I have seen celebrating Black Music - and Soul particularly - in the US. Mike
  10. I didn't reliase for years that I actually had the Dells version Kev - always played the UK copy but left the US copy sealed filed next to it !!! totally different track listings but the same cover!
  11. I'm not called Kev - but I think Cissy's version is the best!
  12. Just dug the Barbara Mason out lately myself Kev - off to see her in Bilbao next month as you know. Strange 'Jimmy Bishop' wrote her song and 'Jerry Weaver' the Joe Odom ? Mike
  13. Wanted - Gil Scott-Heron - Pieces Of A Man on UK Philips - 6369415. Must be MINT or Mint- at worse - cover and vinyl. If anyone is interested in a trade for the 45 - I have a a nice white promo on US Flying Dutchman of 'Lady Day & John Coltrane obviously plus cash on my part Would consider a genuine first issue US release of the album - if condition allows i.e. shrink wrap etc or better still sealed. Please PM with details Thanks and regards Mike

  14. It's too long because her vocals don't come in until 30 secs - 12 secs would be about right for me.....
  15. People get ready there is a train a coming.........People all over the world join hands and start a Love train.........:o)
  16. Me too Eddie - wanted a minter for home play as I do for albums.... but got a great copy , still in shrink in Feb this year for £30!
  17. 12'' released in Canada only for Record Store Day by Universal to celebrates Marvin Gaye's 75th birthday Copy still in shrink wrap - only played once - sounds wonderful Side 1 - Fantastic previously unreleased mix of 'Where Are We Going' with 'Woman Of The World' which is previously unreleased - on the Motown label. Side 2 on the Blue Note label has Donald Byrd's version of both tracks on side 1. £40 plus £3 p&p UK with proof of posting . Elsewhere at cost . PM please, Paypal preferred.

  18. 'MR' in itself does not indicate a boot but the Delta number 95372 does. It was released in 1965 so would have a Delta number in the range of 55681 thru 55910 if it was legitimately pressed at Monarch. 95372 indicates it was pressed in the 70's. Mine is like yours - it is styrene ? - and was bought on my first visit to Wigan in Sep '74 off Winstanleys stall - so it must be a boot. Mike
  19. Better get a move on Ian it is scheduled for 8 September - Amazon taking pre-orders!
  20. When it comes to Soul music - North is Chicago, Detroit and New York, South is Memphis and New Orleans..........
  21. Pity it is not Kent - hope BBR(?) make a good job of it About time all the Ric Tic stuff was made available legitimately and comprehensively!
  22. I've always maintained that it was not quite the 'Rare' Soul scene back then that it later became - new releases galore were played at Wigan and Cleethorpes as well as the Mecca, the time span was so narrow and the turnover of records massive. Yes there were rare records (and some remain so to this day) but it was not the main factor, so you might argue that the post Wigan scene was a different scene altogether.
