  1. Think its still pretty much unknown Tony - not the same precisions as the Detroit outfit, but a nice track all the same Cheers Mike
  2. I've got one in my sales boxes at 375 m- Cheers Mike
  3. The seller is a friend of Doni's and that is why he can get them autographed - pretty sure he is selling them on DB's behalf as he has auctioned stuff before for him. I could ask Doni when they were pressed but not sure he will know the exact year although its fair to say it was years ago and he kept a handful of copies. I've got the original stamper for Open the door to your heart hanging on my wall at home. As for the film it seems a few Northern tracks have been used in it although reading the description of the film I'm not sure where the Northern Soul connection comes into it have a look here for details https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0450238/ Hope this helps Mike
  4. Lew Stanley had one but he sold it - last year I think - don't know who to or where they were from but he was looking for big money for it! Cheers Mike B
  5. Looks like NSC didn't start up 'til the 80's? Have a look here https://suenomartino.net/nsc.htm address on the acetate is the same as in the article too Cheers Mike Bolderson
  6. I did contact the seller about this because as far as I'm aware NSC is Ron Murphy's Detroit based company - he put out several unreleased tracks on Soul King - I could be wrong but I doubt very much that it was in existence when Motown were cutting and certainly there have been several dubious acetates in the last few years with National Sound Corporation labels. IMO this is just a relatively recent acetate of a released - albeit very rare and expensive - Tamla 45. Cheers Mike B
  7. Preston Foster - C&W? Deffo not - Ok its not your conventional northern its a quirky tune that will appeal to the same people who dance to Hayes Cotton - one of those where the vocal is so bad its good - definitely one of those love it or hate it tunes but it will appeal to a cross section of the scene IMO of course and spot on about the Exportations fetched much more than I expected - over the past year there have been copies regularly through ebay Mike
  8. The groovey grooves release sounds more of a northern dance track if you pitch it up to +3 - pricewise I picked up a minter for around £150 last year which was a good result - as you say they don't come along too often so could quite easily go for more Mike
  9. Who gives a monkey about soundclips - just keep posting so we can look at that avatar Yeah Baby Yeah
  10. The SWONS part 42 As a few of you know I have been lucky enough to have made contact with a handful of soul artists over the years and occassionally I write the odd piece about them - As it happens I was in contact with Deons representative last year on behalf of some friends. Negotiations took place to try and book Deon's services for an event in the UK and It was made clear that sadly he would not be travelling to the UK in the forseeable future due to private issues - unrelated to his own health as I recall. Given that this took place several months ago, No-one was more suprised than me to see him being promoted to appear at the Northampton weekender. So enquiries were again made a couple of months ago just to see why the situation had changed and still the same message came back i.e. that he would not be travelling to the UK - rather than p*ss on Paddy's party I thought the right thing was to say nothing publically, particularly in light of a certain article that was debated (quite properly IMO ) on here, before its hasty removal from the UK's 'number one northern soul website' . That being the same article that started this thread and was scathing amongst other things of quote 'amateur promoters ' unquote. Surely having written an article like that Paddy would not then have gone on to promote Deons appearance at his weekender without a written contractual agreement being in place would he? .................... No doubt Paddy will be happy to give you an answer to your question Cunnie, as I'm sure anyone who booked specially to see Deon in recent weeks will be feeling a touch disappointed. SWONS indeed Mike

  21. Lets kick off with this one - not sure what the record sounds like but saw it on ebay in the soul section - cracking label design, I've never seen 'Shock' labels with this design .... anyone else?
  22. Ermmm this seems to have wandered completely off the original subject which was about whether non oldies events should be described as Northern Soul Given that the article which started me off asking the questions was removed from the website in question soon after this thread began, thereby denying people the opportunity to read it and give their opinion, perhaps one of the mods would oblige and shut this thread before it gets too out of hand ??? Cheers Mike B
  23. Most of the events now that try to be a little progressive/different do not use the word "northern" in their description. Personally I wouldn't have thought the term excluded a bit of rare or modern, but if it says so on that site, it must be the case. I notice in another article there, the writer talks about meeting "coloured" people at all-nighters. I wonder what colour they were.. blue perhaps?
  24. Hi Karen I don't see a problem as long as nothing is reproduced from that article i.e cut and pasted and we enter into the spirit of the special warnings on that site re libel Given that the webmaster of the UK's number one Northern Soul site uses this site to promote their own event I'm sure they would be aware of this thread with or without a link... I'm just inviting debate amongst the soul fraternity as to whether we should call events that play stuff other than oldies Northern Soul nights and if we do are we misleading people? Its called free speech ATB Mike
