the greatest NORTHERN soul artist of all time
Venus replied to Geeselad's topic in All About the SOUL
I can't personally name my number 1 but Jackie Wilson has always been my favourite solo male singer :-) Thinking back? I didn't get into the Northern Music until 1986...introduced to me by my ex...let's just say he was brave enough to sing the likes of Len Barry...1-2-3 from his bedrooom window...we both lived in the same enclosed court...we got talking and then he played 'Paris Blues - Tony Middleton - Paris Blues (hairs stood up on the back of my neck)...Jimmy Radcliffe - Long after tonight is all over, and a strange song which at the time I thought kinda sounded like Miss Piggy but it turned out to be Donnie Elbert LOL -

@TattooDave Dave I used to be scared of spiders but I lived with my sister a few year back for nearly 2 years in West Sussex...seeing someone more frightened of them than me actually made me a little braver in catching them and putting outside...However this one? well it's huge and so have closed the door till I pluck up courage to go back in there LOL.

Hi Phil, think the first one is Nikki Britton - Live Again (Dot Records) and there's a fab version by Irma Thomas also. The second is definitely Susan Christie - No-one can hear you cry (Chanté Records)

Jenny Wren - Chasing My Dream All Over Town
Venus replied to JOE TORQUAY's topic in Look At Your Box
This is what I found on the net about her credit to historywebsite.co.uk Jenny Allen (Wren) The name of Jenny Allen first came to local notice in 1964 when she was a mere 15 year-old. She was originally backed by a group called Les Jondors. She signed a recording contract in 1965 and took the name Jenny Wren. She was still a pupil at the then Sir Gilbert Claughton School in Dudley. She apparently got her break as a result of Fontana's A&R man, Jack Baverstock, (so influential with Ambrose Slade) hearing her. She released two records on Fontana, Chasing My Dreams All Over Town and The Merry-Go-Round Is Slowing You Down. She appeared at the Civic with Manfred Mann and Wayne Fontana. Her later backing groups were called the Jackdaws, Outlook and Fashion. -
