  1. Proper legends in the house on this thread! Mark, I totally remember your contribution. Back in 1992/93, I used to rinse these mags cover to cover - I could pretty much memorise every word! Nowadays, of course, I can’t remember what I did last weekend! But back then, stuff like these charts were really important to me - exotic names like Chante Moore, Chuckii Booker, Walter & Scotty, Gary Taylor and The Dells. This page brings back loads of memories. Thanks for posting.
  2. Wow, I remember that Tyrone Davis article! I think it’s what led me to buy Tyrone Davis’s greatest hits on Rhino. Thank you so much - it sent me on an odyssey of uptown soul music!
  3. Hi Mate, I'm one of the B&S writers - I wrote the Elijah Baker feature mentioned above. It's not a scam; the numbering on the old website is incorrect. For instance, the edition with the artist Ahi on the cover is listed there as being 1100 when it was actually 1050 (see pic below). Not sure how that got scrambled, but the current magazine is definitely 1070. Hope that helps. Cheers, Dan
  4. Yes, could be that only the master with the fade in still exists, which also begs the question why? Who was it that first edited it?
  5. Thanks TY - I wasn't sure whether the single/solo version was released after the song gained popularity on the northern soul scene first, which might have meant a DJ already had access to it.
  6. Thanks Kev & Epic - really appreciate you getting back to me. This other version with the fade in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNOCCiEnpRE is actually the one that seems to be selected by most compilations, for instance the recently released Odyssey box set & the Move On Up release. Removing it only shaves off about 10 seconds or so, so I don't think it would be to create space. Trying to figure it out
  7. Another burning question, If you picked up a Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons comp over the last 30 years it would probably have the version of The Night with the group singing the first verse "beware of his promise" etc in creepy unison. But who first spun the version with Frankie up front handling lead? Was it only popularised after his solo album Inside You was released or did somebody get hold of it before then? Thanks in advance all, Dan (SJ)
  8. Hi folks, I'm new here, pleasure to meet you. Doing an article on Northern Soul for a US Mag and just wanted to see if anyone here would be so kind as to shed light on the following: The version of Bobby Hebb's Love Love Love linked below has a piano intro - which DJ first played the fade in version that appears on most comps and how did that edit originate? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2QtAgEACUg Thanks in advance, Dan (SJ)
