  1. Event: Culcheth Two Room Soul Night Special Guest John Vincent Review: 5 stars by Mickyfinn. Event Date: 6 Jul 2024 Another great Saturday night at Culcheth. Charlie Smith got things going with a good mix of top draw tunes including Richard Caiton, Bill Bush and Cookie Scott. Simon Ingham, brilliant as ever, never fails to know what is needed to keep that dance floor jumping: The Falcons, Nat Hall, Herb Ward…… John Vincents spot was superb, quite a few that were new to me, but every track it seemed, memorable, standout for me The Martinques : “If you Want... 4. Another classic 70s soul album set up for a vinyl release via Ace Records and their Southbound imprint Millie Jackson - Feelin' Bitchy -Southbound LP SEW 172 Due out the end of the month, and avail for pre-order right now Release notes clip... In the spring of 1977, Millie Jackson was down in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, laying down tracks for what became “Feelin’ Bitchy” with co-producer Brad Shapiro. Released in August 1977, the album reached #4 and #34 in America’s Billboard’s R&B and Hot 100, going gold with over 500,000 copies sold. Jackson’s cover of ‘If You’re Not Back In Love By Monday’ – already a hit for Merle Haggard in March 1977 – also reached #5 R&B and #43 in the Hot 100 in August. Although the album did not chart in the UK, “Feelin’ Bitchy” sold strongly to a dedicated fanbase who had voted her the #1 female singer in the Blues & Soul magazine annual poll. Jackson also performed much of the material on her sold-out UK dates in early 1978. Ace are delighted to reissue “Feelin’ Bitchy’ on vinyl and Millie Jackson spoke to Ian Shirley about the recording of the album. This interview runs on an inner sleeve along with classic photographs of Jackson from this period. 5. Event: Whitby Soul Weekender Yorkshire S Original Review: 5 stars by Mickey Finn. Event Date: 5 Jul 2024 What do Frankie Knuckles, the Fantastic Johnny C and Taggy Matcher (I kid you not) have in common? They are among the many musical highlights of another fantastic Whitby weekender that gave us a full across the board musical experience and a chance to meet old friends while making new ones. Friday evening’s kick off in the big room with Kev got us in the mood with the likes of Patti and the Emblems and Gene Chandler. The always reliable Phil Kingswo... Tap to view the full event review

Event Date: 28 Jun 2024 Im back down to reality after this weekender, and well what can I say about this event. There was a party of us who encamped in the main ballroom all weekend. That was for all sessions. Some of our party have been in the NS scene for some time and there comments flying about I havent heard this record for a long time. Other comments were, whats this, its new to me. The point Im making is that the music was varied for all tastes and the DJs mixed it... Tap to view the full event review

  24. Event: Lea Hall Rugeley All-nighter Review: 5 stars by Eddiefoster. Event Date: 22 Jun 2024 I thoroughly enjoyed my first outing to Lea Miners, Id never visited the venue before and it was an honour to be asked to get behind the decks by Pep. The venue is fantastic, just perfectly suited to a nighter as the picture in the main thread suggests. A well attended night despite the big weekender, footy and BBQ weather and musically great all the way through IMO - varied offerings from all the DJs with a good mix for all.
