  8. yep, thats the one , thank you very much I thought I recognised the voice on the night due to his "Cracked up over you" sound , lol time dimmed the memory the following day though you can see where I got the "hook" from due to the repeated chorus brilliant record also thanks to the other suggestions and replies , some good stuff I dont know listed in them too
  9. sorry to say I have nothing apart from a repeat type of chorus no idea about singer , song name or anything , I dont think it was announced at the time either yes I know its a big ask , but a google search doesnt help due to the words not being unique enough
  10. back again heard one at NCS , Bury Town Hall last night , maybe when MACE was on , or thereabouts , with the following lyrics I think , repeated a few times anyway "GOTTA BE A WINNER" - or something similar got a good reception on the floor anyway and probably a rarity any ideas please ? thank you
  11. yep , thats the one , thank you
  12. Hi all I went to the Twisted Wheel yesterday (alter ego) - which was great by the way despite a few volume issues that they had before they changed the mixer (when John Kane was on , lol) , and a fairly fast record (stomper ?) was spun on the decks which I have not heard before and no idea who sang it or what it was called either , so hoping somebody can help ? all I do remember is that it had a chorus or lyrics that said something like "I only get to hold your hand when we dance" something like that anyway a bit vague I know but somebody on here may have gone and recognised the song as the floor was busy when it came on and people seemed to know it , or one of the many readers on here may have an idea what it was and can let me know I thank you all for reading this and also for any replies regards
  13. how about "My World is Empty Without You" ?
  14. I would say the ones that got me started were :- the early Tamla Motown hits albums , especially the early vol 1 and also the silver one (vol3) also the blue STAX HITS `67 album I bought as a teenager on holiday in a blackpool record shop on a backstreet not far from the funfair also, the THIS IS SOUL atlantic compilation with some superb tracks on it and my mate who had the Mitch Ryder album with Breakout and You get your kicks on it , on Stateside ( possibly called Breakout ? ) as a motown addict I had to buy those chartbuster albums , plus I bought some of the uk EP`s like Marvin Gaye etc too , lol happy days
  15. just got back from the Stockport show and have to say all the acts that appeared were superb , but no mention of eddie floyd and they did mention that percy sledge was in hospital with cancer this show is well worth the money, even if eddie holman and little anthony didnt sing the northern soul hits we know and love them for good to see paul williams junior in the temps lineup, excellent show they did too , but not one artist was poor and thats saying something, despite gwen having a bad back and having to be helped on and off stage, she could really sing even sitting down !!! if its as good at oldham as it was in stockport !! - well !!
  16. just been watching the train one and heard wade in the water , ramsey lewis , had that once on silver writing black chess label
  17. I have to agree here unfortunately I am sorry to say I thought she was appalling and much prefer to remember her the way she used to be , time to give it up when its that bad , and I really love here songs but better to remember them the way they were , and her too the backing band was really great though I have a dvd somewhere of her singing in the usa a few years ago and its not very good either ruby turner was excellent as was said earlier , as was duffy and a few others
  18. I saw the "Drifters" in may/june 1996 in Majorca at the Son Amar nightspot , and Johnny Moore definitely wasnt there as I spoke to the "drifters" and asked about him and they said he wasnt well and was back at his home 12 years on I have no idea what the line-up was , and I also think there were about 3 of these groups touring europe at the time , but this group had a residency at the son amar at that time however , they were good and we had a great night out with magicians , singers , stage show , comedian and the drifters to finish off the night and chat in the foyer afterwards
  19. 2 that spring to my mind (loosely) are:- WHATS LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT - angela bassett , about ike and tina turner and THE BLUES BROTHERS as for the temptations , here it is on imdb and on ebay https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0164292/ ebay item number 150185404396
  20. same here it would be brilliant if we could see these groups with original lineups or with some of the other members who are not in them anymore but it isnt going to happen and these 2 lineups are well worth the money and do the best they can under the circumstances as for the question , the answer is that it was a "DONT MISS EVENT" and I am glad that I for one didnt miss this chance to see it yes , I went , had 4 tickets for this show and was there , and that is the difference , in being there and supporting them , as they support us in still trying to keep that spark alive sure , they mentioned members who are no longer with us with glowing tributes to levi , lawrence and obie , and too eddie and david etc , but in the best tradition they still sounded and looked like they were these 2 groups , with theo ( the voice ) peoples doing a superb job at taking the lead vocals for the 4 tops ( an ex temptations member I might add ) , and bruce williamson sounding a lot like dennis edwards on the 70,s tracks , with ron tyson doing the falsetto and terry weeks doing the bass parts it really was nostalgia to watch and hear so all in all , a great night , a great sound , 2 great groups , 2 great orchestra`s backing them , great venue and well worth the money and to anyone on here that went they will be sure to agree with me and for anyone going to sheffield , edinburgh , cardiff , london or any of the other venues you can be sure of a great night with the records you expect to hear , and the odd one or two you wont but will know anyway for those who missed it , then yes you missed it , and although I respect your thoughts about the original members , it cannot be that way any more but at least there are dvd`s you can watch ( like I do ) last night it was all about the soul , and had it by the bucketful
  21. obviously there are inevitable line up changes especially when members pass away , but some of the disinformation in this thread beggars belief ( they havent all passed away although some are in very poor health like levi stubbs for instance ) the four tops are in manchester in november ( M.E.N Arena on Sat 10 November. ) with this line up :- Abdul 'Duke' Fakir (from the original Four Tops line-up), Theo Peoples and Lewise McNeir will be joined on stage by Lawrence Payton Jr. son of founder member Lawrence Payton. and the temptations are on the same billing although I cannot see the current line-up , but they are not all dead as some ppl seem to think. ( but there are several groups playing and using the name temptations , including otis williams and dennis edwards ) https://www.thetemptations.com/ has a lot of the info on various members past and present the plain fact is that they are usually past retirement age and could have health problems too , so its not always possible to tour anymore , but to say they are dead when some clearly are not dead is a ridiculous thing to say and a simple search on google or similar search engine would have answered some of the questions and may have stopped bad replies from being posted. I hope to be there in november and would hope that at least some of the regular members will still be in these groups
  22. have to agree with you there m8 was one of the first ones to get me interested in motown records that werent in the top twenty etc ie:- to me they were more obscure and that made them even better
  23. absolutely true and I would also like to wish him well , and hope he gets better and back into the music industry that he loves hope you recover soon kev , best wishes from me
