  1. I heard the Imperial C's first on a Dave Raistrick unknowns tape he sent me in around 1981. Could have sworn it went to Jimmy Wensiora from there as Jimmy was buying loads off Dave at that time. First heard the Blendels "you need love" on that very same tape that Tim B has up for auction at this moment. Cheers Dave
  2. Nurons first played by Richard S at the end of the Casino covered up as Lamar Thomas and the Chains that Bind.
  3. Hi Peter you're exactly right saying Richard S first, probably right with the time period as well. Can't believe you'd never heard the flip, he was playing them both at the same time. Both sides were covered as Spyder Turner and The Webs. Dave Raistrick found the second copy probably around 1981/82. He put it up for auction on his list still covered up. I had a go at getting it but it went quite high (for the time). Dave Withers won it I think at around £160. I did get one a couple of years later, not too sure where that went, might have been to Jimmy W.
  4. The same time I had the above mentioned Bobby Wisdom Handwriting/Girl I call my baby, also had the Soulettes on Scope 2 decent sides on that. Not sure if anyone has mentioned Charles Brandy, Professionals on Groove City, Profs and Sharon Scott on RCA yet. So I'd be top 3.. Bobby Wisdom, Darrell Banks But the best has to be a record that was massive the last few years at Wigan for Richard S and Gary R. Then after that side died down Gary R flipped it over and had another monster on his hands. Frankie Beverly Because of my heart/ I just want to feel I'm wanted
  5. I used to have a blank white label test pressing you could drop the needle on any side and be guaranteed a monster. Used to be known as Billy Kennedy until stock copies were discovered........
  6. Thanks for uploading these old mags Karl great reading. As someone has already said the knowledge that these guys had at the time was amazing! I remember the Pat Brady Eula Cooper c/u, Pat Lewis Solid Hit at the time. I think it was Tony Coleby showed his copy of Pat Lewis to Brady and he was still adamant it was Eula Cooper! Just got to mention my old friend Dave Porter regarding Voices from the shadows. I'm sure he helped out financing Voices for the first 5 issues then Rod went into partnership with Steve after that with the mag.
  7. Thanks for a great story, very interesting and tragic. Regarding the scans of the acetate. I originally bought this off Dave Raistrick when he found it, around 1980/81. I think he put it up for auction and I won it at £25. I'm sure it was that figure as I also won the Eddie Parker "Love you baby" White Demo for £25. No one had seen a white demo before and I had to have it. People thought I was crazy paying that when the issue could be had for £1.50! The Lester Tipton acetate was a very good price I thought as the La Beat single was about £40 at the time. I've got the sales list somewhere that I put it on a couple of years later. I thought I sold it to George Sharp but it must of been you Andy. Cheers Dave K
  8. Hi Chris I'm from York so we might have been at the same do's!? Clive Jones had some great records, wonder what happened to them?
  9. Brilliant footage that. I was DJ'ing there all weekend. The allniter mentioned was at the Corner Cafe on Saturday night. It was Martin from Scarbororo who used to do the Scooter magazine that organised the weekend and he asked me to DJ. He had Zoot and the Roots playing in a nightclub for a couple of nights and me and Jinxy from Scarboro Dj'ing before and after them. Before was better as they were a hard act to follow as the place just went mental. Remember talking about records with Miles and the drummer (sorry can't remember his name but he was well into the music). The allniter was the first I think at the Corner Cafe. There was Clive Jones, another big name Scooter DJ aswell who's name I can't remember, Jinxy and me DJ'ing at it. Probably between 1981 - 1983 I think. Great times, can't believe how young we looked.
  10. Original stamped ZTSC so should be easy to tell. Soul Bowl had hundreds of these. It's a keeper though making it more scarce.
  11. Johnny Hendley is very rare, I only had the one copy in the 80's and never had a chance at another. Swapped it with Butch for a new play by the Lucky Charms. The Lucky Charms went to the Vicar which I think he played a fair bit.
  12. Just reading through this old topic and I think this is probably spot on. I had a definite original of this in the early 80's I bought off either Ian O'Hara or Ron Pedley for £30. Very very rare only ever saw one other. Roll on to mid 80's and Pat Brady has an original on his list for £15 which I snapped up. When I received the record you could tell it wasn't real next to the original but it was a very good copy. I informed Mr Brady it wasn't real and he took it straight back. I still have £15 credit owed to me !! Think I sold it to Jimmy Wensoira for about £50
  13. Bugger, thought that was tooo easy !!!
  14. Great stuff Chalky, this was Keb in his prime imo. The 2 with ? are : Don Gardner - I wanna know who - c/u = Accents - Who you gonna love - Onederful Compliments - You're still the same - c/u = Gillettes - The same identical thing - J & S I can help you for a change !
  15. End of Wigan, Clifton Hall period I bought The Q - "That's the way" off Richard Searling. He enclosed a letter apologising for not having any cardboard and had used 2 acetates as stiffeners instead. The 2 acetates were Eddie Holman - "Where I'm not wanted" and "Hurt". Two of the biggest nighter sounds of that period !!!! Bloody hell Richard find some cardboard next time..........
