It's a news piece I doubt it will be done that stylized Isn't it good to spread the word about a small independent venue owned & promoted by real music fans? It needs to be busy every weekend to survive. Are there rules about how to appreciate good music? I've been listening to Motown since I was a toddler and the way I enjoy it is to sing & dance along, like a lunatic, looking completely uncool, is that OK with the soul police?

It's not mickey mouse, the club is Northern Soul & Motown and one of the owners is a old Wigan regular. It's a small back street club, they want to film a regular night, I've done a good job of spreading the word and so press are interested. The last time I spoke to people who came down last weekend they said let them know when we had filming so that's what I'm doing. Don't be so negative we're all real fans of the music!

Haha well it doesn't really matter, I'm guessing it's more about the passion, obviously if people look the part and can dance then even better ;) Not sure where you're flying from Dave but pretty sure we won't be able to sadly haha

Good point Byrney, they want a mixture of old and young fans - people who saw the scene evolve and people who are new to it but just as passionate Not just Wigan.. Cheers

(maybe 1 or 2 of each) Lesser known (to me anyway) Tammi Terrell 'I Can't Believe You Love Me' More well known The Spinners 'It's A Shame' Martha Reeves & The Vandellas 'Nowhere To Run'

I like Craig Charles as a DJ/presenter but I think he always aligns himself with funky stuff more than Northern, his DJ sets are certainly of the funky variety, he's even playing at a Northern Soul allnighter on Sat & his set is described as 'funk & soul' not Northern so I don't think he would claim to know about that scene, perhaps he's heard a couple of isolated stories that have tainted his view? I'm new to the scene compared to everyone on here but I've been chatting to a lot of original fans & big DJ's from the day recently who've told me countless amazing stories and they all said it was a friendly-to-everyone scene back then

Can't get enough of Leon Bridges at the moment! Gutted his last show was sold out hope to catch him soon!

Guys just to let you know had such an overwhelming positive response yesterday, loads of nice comments and messages, we've got some amazing reputable Northern Soul DJs and promoters wanting to get involved & my blog post has had 15,000 views so far. Northern Fridays will be 100% no gimmicks, no glitterball, original vinyl only and ALL about the music! Personally I can't wait for Mostly Motown Saturdays, glitterball will be in full effect, I'll be singing along to The Supremes and Four Tops ;)
