Temptations - Don't Look Back; Paul Williams On Lead
Vadnochka commented on Mal C's video in Artists Singles
What a trio - my misses and me were at the Demont to see the three of them close that tour and of course Ruffin was dead soon after returning to the USA when allegedly being robbed of the tour takings and being deliberately OD'ed and dumped at the hospital - Kendricks was also diagnosed with cancer soon after and was dead quit soon after that that. - tragic but again what a final night - disappointing attendance but would not of missed it for the world. Velours - MGM - very few black stockers Also very few Earl Jackson ABC stockers - Back in Aug '72 I had 2 white demos but never had a black issue till this day. Also had a demo and an issue of the Groovettes at the same time in the 90's - no idea of the relative rarity of either - Anyone?
-
My brother Chris in Jersey when he was in one of his completist moods had demos and issues of both RicTic and Golden World catalogues at one time
-
Had both in the 90's - Sold Hyperions to Chaddy and Enchanters to Soul Sam at the Ritz - never had another. Regards Keep following I'm always turning stuff up - been at it since 1970 Steve

Great tune - I remember having the usual long winded discussion /negotiation with Mr. Barnfather at the Ritz Rarest of the rare nights in the 90's with this 45 as one of the objects of desire as we tried to get a deal over the line involving Changing Scene - When the city sleeps / Groovettes - ( I had both issue & demo ) / Pamella Beatty / Moonlighters. I can't remember what went his way only remember I came home with the Changing Scene which was the object of the deal anyway. £200 looks a bargain despite condition.

Just had to have it - stunned it appeared as a 7" single
Vadnochka replied to Vadnochka's topic in Look At Your Box
Orange issue - never really compared side by side but just loved Roy's version from the 1st time I heard it. Obviously recorded by quite a few artist's and it's a known fact that on a US chat show Dionne Warwicke was asked who her favourite male singer was and she replied to a bewildered unknowing hoste 'Lou Johnson'. Weird and wonderful 7" releases from all over the world have always been my brother Chris's and my target. I played a 7" Argentinian 1967 release of The Vel-vets - 'I got to find me somebody' last time out at Thringstone during this Novembers gig. Like most Argie releases at 33rpm. I used to play it on 20th Century back in '72 when Simon Soussan sent me a copy un-ordered as a replacement for Maxine Brown '1 in a million' which was out of stock. Nobody would dance to it so swapped it down at Selectadisc for the Professionals + £12 to me - one of the great deals of all time. regards Steve -

Didn't see these earlier posts - Philippines RCA Orange labels started late 60's it appears - certainly Monkees in 69 but maybe earlier. Just so pleased to get a copy - more so than getting a 1/2 price Amy Lou Ragland issue and 1/2 price Quicksand demo this week. They're still out there !!! you know. -
The relentless pursuit turns up another remarkable find. THIS WAS THE ONE - Roy Hamilton - Reach out for me - RCA Philippines 7" issue - I subsequently found reference to a 7" demo also out of the Philippines on RCA - obviously thought of as an album only track on RCA - My brother and I playing it off the album 30+ yrs ago. Maybe not a big deal to most but to a serious collector / dj an absolute remarkable find and also a chin strokers moment. Will be playing it next time out !!!

1st night at the Casino was marred by the fact pre-booked membership was required to get in. We came down from the Mecca to Wigan at about 1.00 AM to find a complete scrum around the door. Deciding to observe for a while and eventually joined the throng still jostling to get in. Remember there hadn't been a regular all-nighter except Hanley Top Rank since the Torch closed in March '73. 1/2 hr. later and still among the crowd with people arriving from all over we decided to give it a swerve as the crowd looked like a youth club gathering and very few were faces I remembered from other venues and the few we did know had pretty much the same opinion. As to the overall attendance I can't comment as we didn't get in although the entrance requirements had created a very slow moving mass as most were turned back at the door. Obviously it became the place to go but I've never bought into this Torch / Wigan sound rubbish as so many of the them were clapped out / played out sounds or played years previously at other venues - many Torch accredited sounds never got played there. Always a subjective topic - what do the say - History is usually written by the survivors or winners.

Always remembered scheduled to follow Tim Brown on the decks there - trepidation at what he would play and have to follow - He kicked off with Ray Agee - one off the list to play - turned out to be the only one he played that I'd got so had a free run from my box and could breathe a sigh of relief. Great night and still remember the gang that had travelled from Manchester only to arrive too late to catch Tim and I - The actual reason they'd made the trip - I offered them a fag and commiseration. Great days and towards the end of my travelling any distance to get my fix. OR SO I THOUGHT - NOW ANOTHER 30 YRS ON

Yes that's right - I remember telling a couple of stoned ravers to fuck off out of my earshot with those whistles as I'd paid good money to listen to our music not their stupid whistles. My missus told me to calm down -'wankers' said I. Also I was heavily into garment manufacturing - massive Lycra fashion gear and amazing prints from our textile print works - we also had a branded manufacturing set-up for Fred Perry / Pringle / Canterbury / Donnay / River Island / East Side / Top Shop and numerous others - Footwear for M&S / Clarkes / Start-rite and of course the good old BSC ( Dolcis / Lilly & Skinner / Freeman Hardy Willis / Curtess / Saxone etc No wonder those good old working class boys could afford to buy any sound back then - My 1st wife was the senior designer for Formula 1 merchandise - we met at school in the 60's. Our kids were the best dressed / street cred offspring in history. Anyway back to the internet - already bought 4 tonight - there's a few more out there tonight
