  1. Always a difficult decision to make - historically there have been very few times when it has been prudent to sell from a price/value point of view - the 80's lull so to speak being the exception. The advent of the internet and it's world wide reach has done away with the dealer speak doom and gloom that they were all guilty of back in the past, 'no demand mate' was the stock in trade of the guilty robber barons, so valuation and demand info are readily available for a few clicks - this site alone shows that it is possible to sell all values of sounds in fairly short order without commission charges. Condition, demand, rarity - numerous ways to get this info. will play a big part in being successful. ebay, dealer listings, discogs, sales history all available so not going out much any more should not inhibit making an informed decision, and I presume you must have some mates who can add to the pool of knowledge needed to make the decision. The final criteria is down to you - retirement / illness / mortgage / financial / family commitments all have a bearing. As others have already mentioned, the overall quality of your collection will decide the final value - big ticket numbers have always been saleable - a collection of soul pack fillers and boots, re-issues, carvers and the like will have a lot less value than you think, and some may be deemed worthless commercially - the secret is to become informed and be realistic on your valuation. Do you want or need the money is always a significant driver of this decision, and if you do decide to sell don't then beat yourself up having started the process. Don't just piss it up the wall, have the holiday of a lifetime, buy a new car/kitchen/house because unless you're single the old saying is so true - happy wife, happy life less strife. Best of luck
  2. Hi, Sammy Campbell - I think they all have this poor pressing fidelity - visual and audio always disappoint on every copy I've seen or heard and my copy certainly was just the same. Agree with your sentiments on this one and if I'd seen it earlier would have been in for it. Regards Steve

  4. Top scan same as my 1st £5 purchase - Up the Junction - Crewe @ Feb 72 - oh what a slippery slope was in front of me, remember being miffed Jay Boy released it and consigned it to the 'I don't play that anymore' box - think I replaced it as an opening number to my spots with Professionals - That's why I love you - Groove City - acquired as a 1 off from Selecta Disc - Arkwright St. cellar - Nottingham - same time as my old mate Derek Allen snaffled a Nabay - little did we know!! Happy days !! Steve
  5. More likely that the worms have turned and are wasting the sellers time with false bids - two or more can play this game
  6. re-issues, boots, carvers - oh and maybe just maybe some originals - always the same script from this seller who also always maintains 'he knows nothing' - steer well clear unless you are financially incontinent and must have the sound for your youth club.

  11. Carolina soul always a feeding frenzy as he lists sounds on commission from all over and advertises as such - historic results attract sellers to use him as a sales outlet ( a bit like JM in UK for prices or DB for quick sales and even better payment ) you pays your money and make your choice ! As for SJ - Always appears to be priced not to sell - then again do you know how much property costs in Great Glen, Leics. - Engelbert's a neighbour. Its also of course a free market and prices will find their market level - it is not compulsory to bid and remember the chances of winning anything in a world wide open auction are something of a long shot

  15. Never really crossed my mind before but having owned a wlp - no 'A' on label in the mid 90's Sam Williams - Love slipped through my fingers I've noticed that occasionally one is pictured with an 'A' above the Tower logo in posts for sale or youtube. 45 with 'A' appears much less frequently. For 45 that appears to have never made the transition to red stock copy, any known reason for 2 print runs, are they from different pressing plants? / second attempt to get some action ? puzzled ? - one of each out there for sale currently Steve
  16. Pm'd you thanks

  20. Difficult one this - IMHO great sound but not everybody's cup of tea - always been a hard one - it took me years to get one back in the 90's @ 4/500£ back then but struggles to get to this 20yrs later unlike most big ticket items that have remained rare. For info - popsike - 4 entries - 1) UK Jan. 2014 - £500. 2) US 2004 -$715 3) 2009 -$149 - beat-up. 4) 2013 - $444 - so not that many out there but this is not a definitive list and if my memory serves me right one did sell ? or was listed on here relatively recently for @£300 Hope that helps but who knows ? - price guides are giving similar figures. Steve

  23. Being a Leicester lad - the Saturday morning trip to Leicester market - only when not playing football for the school - and a rummage through the boxes on Jeff Kings stall - all multi copy imports - nothing of any consequence - at least whenever I was there, but the interesting banter of the older lads about the Wheel / Cats, even the Fantasia. All alien to me at the time (early-mid 71) but not for much longer as the lure of the Soul Sounds 45's and the term 'bootlegs' came into being - What very few of us knew or realised was that most of the pressings on this label were from early/mid60's UK releases and not in fact imported copies - Leon Haywood being an exception. This was the reason that the 'boots ' came into being - import copies were almost impossible to obtain - everybody had the same 100 sound playlist with a few exceptions. A bit like the current situation but with 60's UK pop shite now being banged out by djs instead of proper sounds. Getting to the USA prohibitively expensive and remember the USA is @ 3milion sq. miles in area - so where would you go - we had no real idea about Detroit soul / Chicago / Philly / West coast / Washington / San Antonio etc. - when my brother Chris moved to Texas in the mid 70's it was a real eye-opener - ask John Manship when he popped round after Chris came back with some remarkable sounds. The talk was of knocking the sounds out at the Wheel from the boot of Blakey's car / Mick Potter etc. ?- it was a long time ago. But not long after this Blakey had a shop called Discland in Belvoir street and sounds such as Earl Jackson, Sam Nesbitt and numerous British rarities were available all snaffled by my brother Chris and I I remember buying Leon Haywood and realising quickly that despite being the No.1 rare soul sound - The term Northern Soul was not actually being used then - was great to listen to but a nightmare to dance to an opinion I hold to this day. My grandmas stereogramme soon saw off the limited play quality of this and most other 45's.

  25. Ringleaders - gone mad again - noticed this the other week when I had 1 in my box and recent ebay confirms this. Not rare BUT and its a big but - it is without doubt one of the greatest sounds to ever grace our scene (Imagine discovering it now!!!)
