  2. Hi Peter. No not a new member , l just don't post much. I,m too caught up reading and learning from others posts Does that make me a lurker?.
  3. I know it is a little obvious, but how about. Darrell Banks is here .
  4. I reckon Harlem shuffle by Bob and Earl is worth a mention too.
  5. There's the Latin soul 45, Shing a ling baby, by Willie Bobo.
  6. This thread is intriguing. For me "soul" is all about the voice and the emotions that a singer conveys to the listener. But maybe a couple of instrumentals that might be considered soulful , King Curtis: Soul Serenade, Jimmy McGriff :Turn blue, Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers : Moanin'. Even though I really like all the above, I still keep drifting back to Ernestine Andersons rendition of "Moanin". I love this music!

    RIP Aretha

RIP Aretha. My only consolation is the legacy of truly wonderful music and emotions that she has left for us. Take her hand precious Lord.
  8. Here,s a couple of tracks that may fit the bill. Sam & Dave : Said I wasn't gonna tell nobody. Clarence Carter : Funky fever. Oh, another one that I forgot to add: Ann Mason : You can't love me in the midnight hour.
  9. I had a similar experience . I was leaving a car park in West Bromwich , where they had some recycling bins situated by the exit, as I was about to leave I saw some 45's leaning against the recycle bin. The one I could see was a Blue Beat 45 (Keith & Enid). I just , jumped out the car and scooped them up. The bloke in the car behind me went mental as he never expected someone just to dump their car in the middle of the entrance / exit. What could I do? I just held up a 45 and said " Derrick and Patsy". Strangely, he didn't look too impressed.
  10. Sam Cooke: Rome wasn't built in a day
  11. Linda Jones : I Just can't live my life (without you babe) . Great intro and an even greater singer.
  12. Oh so many to choose. Some great ones picked so far. Gladys Knight : It's too late for you and me Hattie Littles: Wish you were here. Five Quails: This old heart of mine
  13. As a long time visitor to this site it is so sad that my first ever post has to be under such circumstances. I first met Paul when along with Merv (tin tin) and Michelle , he was running Shakedown at the White lion in Willenhall. Right from the first meeting he was enthusiastic and friendly and open minded enough to give me and others a chance to dj and share our passion for the music that we love. Any questions that I had regarding the music , he was always happy to help and would give you any information that you wanted , regardless whether it was one of his more common easier to get hold of records or one of his many rarities. He was never precious over such things and such an attitude only fuelled my (and others) love for the music. So thank you Paul for many great music filled nights. So sad that we'lI never get to see you behind the decks again , sporting your latest natty hat and filling the place with those incredible tunes. Peace to you and your loved ones. Nigel.
