  1. The really best thing about her is that she is from North Wales!!!! makes me proud Pete Morgan
  2. Bootlegged on ootp, don't think it was pressed on either of the original labels, Champion & Doc. I have got a lovely copy on a Aussie release for $2.00 a few years back , looks great!! Pete m
  3. As I am 50 in 1 months time I have to say Captain of my Ship- Seventh wonder When I was ateenager- No probs have to agree to all these tunes in this thread; I am 47 now but even when i was 17 i could not even get close to the Velvet satins , Pat powdrill , 7th wonder ( used to stomp to this so it was almost possible at 17) ....but in my humble opinion The Jewels takes the biscuit as the hardest for me to dance to in 30 years!!! best pete m
  4. Any chance of a beer mate?
  5. first real taste for me was standing outside the colwyn Bay pier , (I was supposed to be fishing ) I was too young to get in and it was blowing a gale outside, but managed to hear and see through a tiny crack in the the window ......Jnr Walker and the all stars, then i was hooked !! ( excuse the pun) pete m
  6. So many versions, thread somewhere..... I have played Art Ensley and the fabulous echoes band version on shiptown out to stunned and interested punters, didn,t like Betty's frantic version though .... pete M
  7. I bought mine from richard searling at wigan after i read a rave review about the tune by pat brady in some magazine at the time. bought it blind and loved it then. i paid 10 quid in 78 for it ! never played it beyond the house ... a great tune indeed pete morgan

  10. OOPs sorry for last non post. would just like to say that i went twice to the Dome whilst in the uk from Aussie and it was one of the best nights i have visited in years in the UK ; besides the 100 club of course , great f**k off speakers , great choice of tunes (ie not the run off the mill same old tunes) the highlight for me was Irish Gregs sets. A man with imagination ... met some old mates and new ones.on these few occasions visiting ..when i think of UK fond memories for great nights this crappy old venue for me shines through every time !! well done all involved and thanks for the memories.... pete m
  11. The earliest privately-cut Emi I ever saw were Bill Blacks Combo - Josephine b/w a Capitols track which I can't even remember the name of (but wasn't on a uk 45) and 6 By 6 - Earl Van Dyke
  12. EMIdisc was merely a brand name, like TDK is a brand name for tapes, for instance. EMI themselves had nothing to do with their creation beyond originating the EMIdisc acetates - which were widely used in the record industry at that time, not just for the cutting of northern bootlegs.
  13. [ Just thought of one more that may have been valued at over £100. Court Davis- try to think, covered as The Lover Who Loves You Not- Cant Remember, getting old. Oh and Rita and the Tiaras-Gone With The Wind?. Cant think of any more, though these were both "cover ups" at the time as well. If you can think of any more it would make an interesting debate on a new thread. Might start it myself when i`ve had more of a think about it. Mark I hassled Searling for months to flog Court Davis to me, i went up to 120 quid at the time , but he politely refused. everytime I did buy his chandlers off him prior to that and Rex Garvin - you don,t need no help. He did offer to cut an emi of court davis for me ...but it never happened .... pete m
  14. While you are all sleeping over there, I am over here dancing around doing my housework! At the moment to Marvin Gaye - This love Starved Heart of Mine, There are four Kookaburras sitting on the verandah laughing! Sleep well soulies!

  18. I still have my copy, somewhere ? If i remember correctly Bob Foster from North Wales was instrumental in providing information and / or assisting with this publication. It was the the holy grail for most of these tunes on this bible for a lot of us North Wales kids at the time. Pete Morgan
  19. Have to agree with Pete Smith...At the time this tune (phantom Jainitor ) was great on a loud PA...lost it's appeal to me now.. on another thread....seems you are all into doctor who and Daleks ( even levine likes them) my cousin is Maureen O,Brien and she was Vickie with Mr Hartnall in the first series..... here is a link to her her bio........ i always remember asking her in awe about the daleks as a kid and she replied ..there not real there are blokes inside them ...they are not robots...... so i guess all daleks are boots then :-) pete m https://www.shillpages.com/dw/obrienm.shtml my cousins bio

  21. I closed my eyes and stuck on the headphones and i could smell the sweat and cigarettes and brut deoderant in the air and i had an amazing (drug free) flashback, wish i had a tardis ..... . would be in the record bar getting some bargins .....cheers pete
  22. Lestor Tipton for 30 quid in 1978 from Bob Brady in north wales ( it was originally from Bob Fosters detroit collection ) took me weeks to save up for it as well as paying weekly train fares to Wigan Pete Morgan
  23. Got married 5 yrs ago and had 8 dj,s playing at the wedding, bridal dance was to ..me and mrs Jones - Billy Paul ( my surname is Jones) and style council - your the best thing ...( cheesy but nice) Pete morgan JONES
  24. ........ remember phoning 'Soul Bowl' first thing when the list arrived and it was constantly engaged and when you finally got through John would utter those words....sorry it's gone! happy days...lol Regards - Mark Bicknel This is such a nostalgia trip! I totally forgot about waiting with baited breath as the postman delivered the post on a tuesday( ?) ...waiting for that envolope to drop through the door with strage coloured paper list of tunes and ...finally opening it and pissing my mum off for hogging the phone for a few hours trying to get through to buy a couple of the tunes on the list ....and hearing those earth shattering words....sorry it,s gone. same with john m lists too ...... always missed what i dearly wanted at the time.... I blame it on the welsh postal service at the time myself, and my mother always hogging the phone when i needed to call for tunes. pete m
