  5. Not sure on the value , but i have picked a few good ones up in Australia ..one that stands out is ..shirelles - last minute miracle. great quality vinyl like Uk and Aussie vinyl. I have only found a few NZ related northern over the years, George ( sunny soul ) may be able to shed some more light on releases . Price wise who knows ? has to be up there with the aussie stuff . best pete m
  6. I first heard Ree Flores on a Manship sales tape late 70,s ( also had inspirations no one can take your place, virginia blakeley - let no.... and an instrumental of Jackie wilson - who who song, also the Blues busters - I believe.... I fell in love with all the tunes on the tape and eventually got Ree Flores off Mr Manship a few years later . I still have it and have been playing it out for years. I have heard the Willie Faulk version before at a soul night back in the UK . But i have just listened to chalky's clip of it and it blew me away. Far more polished than Ree Flores, any information on the two guys? Ps any chance some kind soul can send me a mp3 of it ? also any info on the who who song instrumental , has been bugging me for years ? TIA Pete Morgan
  7. As far as I'm concerned, it would still be the same fantastic record it always has been no matter how many copies there are. would have to agree, i lost my copy in the 90's when it was traded in by my mate for whizz ! I bought it from Bob foster collection in the 70.s and it was rare as hen's teeth then. so good !! if more have turned up. At least it may get played out a bit more! what a tune.. Pete m
  8. As for there being no love stories at Wigan - I met a Manchester girl at Wigan , got engaged and used to make out in the phone box on the balcony at Mr m's.for many weeks. I two timed her with a Welsh girl and had a meat pie thrown in my face on the balcony at the casino. more love drama in my early life than A SOUL RECORD and that all happened at the Casino for me ! 10. how many djs would play for nowt well in Sydney, we pay to get in to the nights to help the promoters break even . We Dj for nothing and we all have a great time ...no ego's or problems....just a common love for the music and a need to keep it going Pete m
  11. My wife (a bit younger than me ) used to like 70's stuff when i dj'd early in our dating days and she showed some interest in the music, 6 years later she hates 60,s soul and hardly likes any modern stuff she thinks it is cheesy!! One time i dj'd and i could not see her anywhere in the crowd, after i finished i got a girlfriend to check the ladies and she was asleep in one of the cubicles, she said she was bored and went for a sleep. 12. I Have been cuing for years by placing stylus on vinyl and moving platter around clockwise until first sound is heard( whilst deck is off ) and obviously using headphones. waiting for other tune to fade out on the other deck and holding the slip mat of the impending playing deck ;turn that turntable on whilst holding the slipmat with finger so platter is spinning but record and slipmat is stationary and bang with the crossfader instant sound. I have not had any problems with cue burns on anything and there is no 'dead air " waiting for the next tune to kick in with a full dance floor works for me pete m
  13. tend to find bullet stickers over here on some of the tamla 45's and the blue A s on other tamla 45's not too sure of the difference ? sunny soul should be able to explain better. I thought bullets may be promo copies and the demos with the A's are for radio?? All the blue A aussie 45, s i have seem to be later 60,s period, i have a lovely frankie vallie The Night with a blue A sunny soul any clues? pete morgan ( australia)
  14. whilst working in Germany my record partner in the late 70,s sold our Lester Tipton for 40 quid worth of whizz!! sad day when i found out he also sold at bargain prices , chandlers 20 quid , dean courtney ...etc etc oh well i have managed to replace most of them except mr tipton, pete m
  15. Just saw a documentry last week aired in Aussie about his life, a tragic end for him dying without his family allowed by his bedside. As his son said in the dodo it was so sad that a man who gave so much love to the world should die all alone in need of love. He had an amazing talent and used to hum all the parts of each instrument in a tape recorder for the orchestration of each song .; so the arranger could transpose it all to a score. pure genius and i managed to see him live just before he died, what a man ps i have played this a few times in sets and has gone down great guns everytime best pete m
  16. He looked after me at Wigan ( record wise ) and used to come to the colwyn Bay nighters and stay at mums house. . I remember when another famous manchester soulie ( mentioning no names ) nicked my duffel coat at Prestwich all dayer and he personally snotted the culprit and retrieved my coat! top bloke !!! best Pete m
  17. also did a little kissing and petting in mr m,s not by myself by the way,but with ladies ...but dont tell the wife ......oh! we got divorced .......kids eh!! I used to use the phone booth thingy box on the balcony of mr ms for heavy petting pete m
  18. I have to admit I have never heard of Dixiland Dont remember nighters at the Ritz, remember lots of dayers I dj,d at all the colwyn bay all nighters , searling was a regular plus sam and all the local lads. great nights until the colwyn borough council and police pulled the plug due to gear issues. may be a bit of a blur but i think i did go to a niter at the ritz once ?? loved the all dayers ther though. pete m
  19. i got my copy off mr searling at wigan for 20 quid , shortly after he got sick of playing it, love the b side too(part 2) pete m
  20. Tony. I read he had i told you i'm sick written on his gravestone pete
  21. go team live Sounding quite horsey ....this was great to see live !! ( give it 40 secs to start) https://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=FRgEdJVqnyI&...feature=related pete morgan
  22. Listen to the opening of this Go Team track and 1' 48" in: https://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=p_LoSqyNmeo It may be commercial, but to see kids like this using some traditional instruments and a xylophone is terrific. Plus, those hand claps at the end. Great stuff. And somewhere along the line there is a Philly producer involved (which I need to clarify exactly how). So by supporting this trend it is likely to encourage the following of more retro soul phenomena's which can't be bad news! I went to a Go Team concert last year in Sydney, they were great and the place was packed 3,000 plus. With their samples of shirley ellis ( soul time ) and their instrumental versions similar to 'The horse ' . the place was rocking, Will see them again soon when they return. They are massive in Germany as well ( apparantly) And Japan. well recommended night out pete morgan
