  8. sorry , i had a tenor sax for years and was never any good . It is the sort of instrument that you need 10 years playing ability to make it sound like a musical instrument. I tried in vain for 4 years and the best i could do was a fog horn for a ferry boat or a bad fart sound. Good luck i may suggest lots of one on one teaching and possibly an alto sax . I had a yamaha sax and it was great ! shame i was crap. good luck , the hardest thing is that it takes you years just understanding the bloody reed , never mind all the friggin keys! pete mj
  9. It's not a Australian scene though is it,just a bunch of homesick wannabe's last time i went home (UK) i didn't feel homesick ,i got homesick there when i realised how crap the weather was and wanted to get back to Australia for the sunshine petem
  10. Djs in Oz + Nostalgic ...Isnt that what its all about playing the trax you know & love -Nostalgia ? Plenty of underplayed trax from the 60s & 70s to be aired rather than being progressive ,thats just playin modern junk (not everyones thought i know) I have seen some of those dj to 10 people thats not progression in my book
  11. My humble opinion is that it is a bit dated like instrumentals ,barbiturates in the morning, ford escorts, the smell of brut , aztec bars , smoking a pack of cigarettes all night ,soul patches and djs incoherantly babbling on with crap on the mike pete mj I still clap occasionaly when nobody is looking Pete mj

  14. Always remember R Searling at Wigan telling me his newest cover up at the time was by an artist called Fluffy Falana . I thought he was taking the piss! That was a unique case , for me of the cover up artist name sounding more credible than the true original name ! It took me a while to belive him, Pete Morgan

  16. A few other uses ! Vinegar is one of those things which most of us probably take for granted .... at least beyond the required splash on the salad. And yet this amazing liquid has been revered throughout the ages for very good reasons. Some 1001 of them in fact, which is exactly what this useful little book is about. Just as the ancients probably discovered that 'forgotten' grape juice turns to wine, so, in time, they also discovered that 'forgotten' wine turns into vinegar. We will never know how, or why, someone decided that this mouth-puckering concoction could be useful. But, once they started there was no looking back. Vinegar is made from the oxidation of ethanol in wine, cider, beer, fermented fruit juice or nearly any other liquid containing alcohol. The more common forms are white, malt, wine and cider but the longer list contains fruit vinegars, balsamic, rice, coconut, cane, raisin, date, beer and honey. The earliest records from 5000BC show that the Sumerians used vinegar as a cleaning agent and we can all understand why it took a bit of time to bring vinegar back to the table. Babylonian records show vinegar used as a preservative, which means that someone had realized that vinegar slows, or stops the action of bacteria. What would a pickled onion be without vinegar? Not pickled, that's for sure! The armies of Caesar used vinegar as a drink, we are told and even today there are many who will swear by its health-giving properties. Cleopatra, they say, dissolved pearls in vinegar so she could win a wager that she could consume a fortune in a single meal. Helen of Troy was more sober in her use of vinegar and bathed in it regularly to relax. The history of vinegar is nothing if not colourful. The famed Greek physician, Hippocrates, prescribed it to his patients for numerous ailments and during the Middle Ages in Europe, thieves poured vinegar over their skin to protect themselves before robbing victims of the Black Plague. Even as late as World War 1 vinegar was being used to treat wounds on the battlefields and a bottle of vinegar is still a camper's best friend for treating rashes, bites and minor ailments. But it is probably only in recent years, as we have become more ecologically aware, that vinegar has come back into its own as a cleaning agent. It is cheap, non-toxic, very environmentally friendly and effective. If you haven't discovered vinegar as a cleaning agent yet then this little book will help you to do so. I've been a bit of a vinegar aficionado for some time now in terms of cleaning, preferring to keep chemicals to a minimum around the house, but I am even more of a convert since discovering a wonderful vinegar treatment for hayfever and sinus. Made with grape seed extract and horseradish, garlic, turmeric and spices, it is naturally fermented and works a treat. Vinegar: 1001 Practical Household Uses, is divided into easy-to-find sections with tag labels clearly marked for Laundry, Cleaning, DIY, Outdoor-gardening, Cookery, Health and Beauty and Pet Care. dj related needs PMJ

  19. . Please try and keep the answers clean and don't try to slag me off as some half ass. Tony, spreading the Faith down under. Tony, Lester Tipton was played at the Sydney weekender , on la Beat By Dave A . shame you couldn't make it and spread some faith to us poor mortals in Sydney lol pete m
  20. Lester Tipton got released on Grapevine also, so that is a legitimate UK release , the plot thickens ! I must admit i played All of my life - Ringleaders( anniversary single) at the sydney weekender , it went down a storm and i did not have a sleepless night about playing it. I probably would not play it in the UK though if i had the opportunity ,as i may get hung drawn and quartered ! I thought at the time the tune fitted into what i was playing , enjoyed hearing it . I would not play the flip though , as it had a release Best Pete Morgan

  23. Hi Pete, I love this tune as well i found this on the NME website best Sidney "Birdlegs" Banks (b. 13 October 1929, Chicago, Illinois, USA) and Pauline Shivers Banks (b. 28 April 1933, Memphis, Tennessee, USA). This Rockford, Illinois R&B married duo are known for one hit, "Spring", a hit in the spring (naturally) of 1963. Banks had been performing for nearly 10 years before he and his wife were recorded for the first time with "Spring", on Cuca Records, in Sauk City, Wisconsin. After it was leased to Chicago-based Vee Jay, the record reached the Top 20 on the national R&B charts, and received considerable airplay. As a result of the record's success, Banks and his wife toured with a group, a female duo called the Versatility Birds, and a back-up band that included Mack and Floyd Murphy; the latter pair later worked with the Blues Brothers. Cuca released an album by Birdlegs And Pauline called Birdlegs, but their later recordings for Vee Jay were never released. After the couple divorced in the late 60s, Pauline, under the name Pauline Shivers, recorded a number of songs in the deep-soul style for the Chicago-based Opex label
  24. My 2 favourite compilations ( blue one and red one ) was the Ollie McLaughlin story, with picks from all his labels covered and some great classics like Belita Woods- Magic corner , Jimmy Delphs , etc on the two albums. They were a US import i think and came out in the 80,s. best Pete M (can pull them out and do the lists of tracks if someone really wants to know them)
