So what you're asking is whether there are enough people through the door, in order to support indecent wages for ???, respect and something about promoters ....eh? All I do understand is that you seemed to have called people who attend soul nights: 'soul cattle' Lots of us waited til lunchtime today, before we headed to the pub m

Errrr, Mr Dyson knows I get the real and cover-up names mixed up. I'm a bit tipsy after dinner, so apologies for misunderstanding your post. And I do know what it is - talk to him direct about trying to get one m

I think you better talk to (name sent by PM). As much as I'm not a fan of the whole cover-up thing - since moving over to the UK scene, I've now grown to respect the DJs who work hard at finding good 'new' sounds and therefore would never publically uncover something of theirs. I didn't think this was 'uncovered' so therefore I find your post ill mannered - but maybe that's just me. m ps. I dug up the info on this record early last year, but I've never found one through my online digs. Guess there's no chance now, you little sh.... bugger

I'm on their email list since picking up a 70's hard-to-find LP from them Website is https://www.soulbrother.com/ m

You threw me when you wrote the 100 Club was on last night . I recognise Sam, Ginger and James - but who's the 4th bloke? Anyway, with AdyC missing from the lineup, I've now decided that it must be a hoax! m

I've got it on both labels, but wouldn't sell either. Strangely, about 3 of the rarer Jaber copies have come up recently and one of them went for silly money I thought. Then I hear that Sam's bought one from elsewhere too, so maybe.......... - finally, I'll hear it out more often - it won't seem like such silly money once it takes off again m

Yeah, I've used these guys a bit. Even for our first wedding anniversary, as it was PAPER by tradition, I surprised my man with a stack of the antique green sleeves for his records. This website is the only place I could find the real thing - and he loved them! I've also bought a few of their larger cardboard storage boxes for my bits - shipping cost was high, but it's worth it for the peace of mind and organisation. I was desperate for paper/cardboard sleeves a few years ago, as I'd left all my cardboard sleeves back home (not a priority in the suitcase) and generally also brought records back each trip with every 2nd paper sleeve missing - just to save on weight in the hand luggage - nothing special, but they mean the world to me. I think I got new paper sleeves and my loud cardboard covers locally via a website company in Yorkshire. It was a bulk buy for the paper sleeves, but can't remember where from. I regret the paper sleeves buy, as I still need to chop them to fit them in the cardboard ones (I only squeeze them into cardboard if I take them out of the house). We had a guy back home who got cardboard sleeves made up locally in bulk - and these were a bit larger, so the shipped paper sleeves fit well. They're great for storage, but didn't always fit in people's 'dj' box. ...So over all my morning coffee ramblings : my advice is to make sure your bits fit right, before you buy - and also get the sleeves for the paper weight you want, as some are just too thin. Oh - and if you like a bit of colour:- think before you buy! m

Friday Night Or Saturday Night All-nighters?
Maria O replied to Chalky's topic in All About the SOUL
We must get to about 10 weekenders a year and if you look at which evening passes sell better (ie. which allniter evening gets the most in) - it's Saturday. This includes weekenders without soul acts. So regardless of what the vote says, I think the true answer is obviously Saturday. However, I can't remember the last Friday allniter we did that was not part of a weekender - but been to lots of Saturday allniters ....Feel free to debate m -
148 copies I understand. Bet he wishes he'd kept them m

I know this has been asked before. Sam turned 66 last August. We surprised him with a cake on stage and I've booked him again next August, per his request (he'll be 67 at midnight). It was the perfect opportunity for me to book Dave Box same night, so we'll be calling it a METHUSELAH SPECIAL . Dave celebrated his 60th early last year (many of you would remember Syl Johnson and Jackie Ross on at the Frobisher for this). Dave's been spinning soul since 1965 I understand. I'm pretty sure that Sam only started with the soul djing gimmick in '68 (damn fine year that! ) and I'm sure he'll grow out of it someday m

Well I'm a lady (last time I looked ). Yes, I generally much prefer male groups to female groups ...and I also prefer female solo artists to male solo artists. I've also found that those dreadful pop sounding male northern soul records are generally preferred by men and those glorious soul floaters are often preferred by women m

What Would Be Your Cover Up Artist Name
Maria O replied to Russ Vickers's topic in All About the SOUL
Camden ...doesn't cut it! So, then how about my old hairbrush group (seriously): Virginia & the Virgins - "First Time Around" (GoForIt) m -
Sincere apologies Phil. I stumbled across my copy last weekend and realise that it does not have an origin on it (just as you say). We've all known it as an NZ record for years back home - even a rather notable Oz colletor said so when I wanted mine. And when I did track one down, it was from a NZ dealer and it was listed as being from NZ. I could have sworn it said so on the label - but my detailed memory is pretty rubbish ...obviously! I'd be pleased and proud if it ever ended up being an Aussie m ps. I had also grabbed my mobile for a quick pic, if anyone is interested

OUT OF SIGHT (Epic) also contains one of my all-time favourite songs (and only version for me): "Don't Leave Me Baby" I really wish Maxine sang this when she performs m

If you know his username, you can contact him yourself via PM. If he can't help you, maybe she has some relatives (she's not listed) - check the phonebook - CLICK HERE However, as the person may be an innocent party, I suggest you remove her street number and street name. This is a public website and there all allsorts out there collecting data for identity fraud. m

As far as I knew, it never came out on Australian. My 45 one is on a blue New Zealand Phillips and clearly states the country of origin in the label perimeter, so I find it strange that Manship lists his one with an "?". Anybody have a photo of a Non-NZ one if such a thing exists? m ps. contrary to popular belief, we are NOT the same country

cheers for that. Only just got back from London ourselves about an hour ago, so I'm up for this m

Where I grew up, I never felt lucky. I felt abnormal - and it's still hard to describe why you can't go to the trendy pub/disco with your family friends or work colleagues. The work's Christmas Party always proved difficult too (er sorry, but I don't dance). I can't even spend too long in a shop that plays dreadful house or pop music - my head starts pounding and my skin starts crawling. (My hearing gets worse each year, so maybe it won't be a problem in later life.) One of my closest friends back home used to love our radio show and then started taking me to the symphony (certain appropriate concerts), as she recognised the music similarity. Now that really was soulful! Lots of other music styles can also overlap - jazz, latin, even 'funk' ...but waiting for cheesy motown in desperation at the next wedding I go to, just isn't my bag. you think we're Lucky? Not really ...it's an illness, where constant medication of good soul music merely controls the symptons - but will never cure you! m
