Um, I thought I was the only one who said they didn't rate it . It's very popular I thought (esp with the males) and I know someone that we book at Thorne regularly who gets asked to play it all the time. m

Interesting Gene, because I've always thought CABARET was his calling. Always found it too tedious to my ears, but it would be nice for George to know that his record was appreciated by so many others. m

In this case, I don't actually like this record - but surely Soul Source should have a "gentleman's agreement" that records on auction are not discussed prior to auction completion, unless: - you are warning everyone about a dodgy auction/seller, including doubt over authenticity or - you are the seller and you want to flog your wares by raising interest (I can't begrudge anyone for that) m

I understood that Seventy 7 leased it from Impel in '71 for release - in the same year as the recording and original release. But I always thought the Seventy 7 was common and still only a few dollars because that charted, so it must have sold a few. Great record (wouldn't mind upgrading to an Impel), but shame it got flogged to death. m

Must admit that I've only read a few posts, because it's not really entertaining me enough. However, I was an extra in a film which was based around another scene (from the 60s ). After all the hoo-ha and 2 days and 1 night of filming, our bits were backdrop for less than 10mins of the movie - and that part focused so much on the central characters' drama in the club venues, that the background was superfluous. 'Normal' people who watched it, didn't even notice the things we wanted to get "right". m

I depends on the size and weight of your parcel. It's simple to look up all postage on the ROYAL MAIL WEBSITE [CLICK HERE FOR COSTS] Another problem solved m

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Doug Parkinson was a well known pop star in Oz who later regularly appreared on numerous variety shows and local clubs, etc. If you're in your 30s/40s, he's the type of singer your mum probably liked. Anyone seriously interested, can read his bio [ CLICK HERE ] which also highlight his other talents. Not having a go at anyone who appreciates his voice, but I doubt the uk soulies in Oz would even take notice if he didn't have one track played out a bit on the northern scene in the uk. ...and yes George (sunnysoul) - I remember that night at St Elmo's (and others there), but for me - the Hip Hop club in the mid 80s and 'The Site' weekly soul nights in the late 80s hold special memories (along with later soul nights/weekenders we girls ran). Gawd, now I really feel old and tired , m

That's a shame. I remember we never charged the dj's for entry. Personally, I think it's wrong due to the wear on vinyl. (As you'd recall, in the late 90s, we girls also did well enough to regularly pay the dj's.) No egos or problems there? m

I must admit ...I noticed that you'd posted a stack of photos of yourself (just after joining recently) in the section where most people post up their soul event photos - and therefore I wondered if you'd be another young lad seeking attention and post things others would argue about. However, after seeing a list of your favourite records - it's no wonder you don't like Tommy. You're absolutely right though : we are all entitled to our opinions and soul "taste" is very subjective. I wish every record I liked was disliked, coz I'm very fond of collecting spares m

I heard it was on 13-16 Mar 2009 but can't find it on any website now, so can't confirm. m

I was really surprised to find this (HARD TIMES) still available - what a great cheapie! Thanks Matt m

...and how many flyers are printed, only to be scrapped off tables by venue cleaners at the end of a night THEN AGAIN: Whilst the vinyl must travel to get to places (by post or carry), we are being green by not demanding 'new' records Whilst 'normal' people spend money on ipods, cd players, games and other home electronics to occupy their time - we'd rather go out to dance or buy a recyclable vinyl product. Whilst Soul Source offers vitual sales (avoiding paper lists), how much energy do we use to stay online. Whilst we travel far to get to venues, how many less homes do we need to heat when hundreds are gathered in the same venue. We would have to walk to the first green event, charge the players and lights with a manual powered generator and not even wash the glasses afterwards! ...We're soulies for good sake, not hippies m = zero carbon footprint =

I've got the LP as well - much prefer it! This clip is the same tempo as the 45 (not the much, much slower LP) but yet ANOTHER version. The vocals seem to be another take to the 45 (a bit less in quality imho) and there's more instrumentation. I'm not 100% though as this is a sound file, so it can sound different anyway. I've only seen a demo of the real ones and wonder if anyone has an issue? When someone was selling the 45 on SS, I got it for Arthur (to buy off me), as I really much prefer the LP version and am happy with that. Highly recommend it for anyone who likes things slow m

I got it on a tape from a friend called Frank in Australia about a decade ago. I couldn't read his hand-writing and wrote Catile for the audio email list that I was involved in. (The email list became 'KTF Audio' in early 2000 and I quit contributing for a while, then shared it with Carmen for a bit who went on to form the 'Carms' audio list. Without asking, a couple of guys were taking the tracks and putting them on their websites, so I started just posting up records that I had and that bored me pretty quick so I quit contributing altogether. The list itself grew to daily contributers and after thousands of unread emails in my inbox, I switched off. I assume it's still going for anyone who has the time). As usual, I spent countless hours searching for the 'Catile' want. When I finally told someone how mental i was going, he set me straight with the exact title and 'BATTLE YOU PLONKER' and I picked it up straight away m

Just listened to the sound files and track 7 (Get It Over Anyway) is worth the price alone! I know that's made a comp before, but did it ever get realeased on an original 7 or LP? Obvioulsy will need the whole cd for my car. Makes the M62 almost bearable in the mornings m -
Horror Of The Stylus, How Often Are They Changed?
Maria O replied to Mark Bicknell's topic in All About the SOUL
I bring our own bought especially for Boomerang and that way can 'time' each set before replacement. It was something we girls used to do in Sydney (I was taught well ), although most of the others around the country didn't bother then. I guess it's also worth investing in the better ones for optimum sound quality - so better to be safe than sorry. I think anybody who doesn't do this for a venue, is simply disgusting (I can't think of a nicer word) and may as well be stealing vinyl from their guests, with how badly they could damage their records. No excuses m -

Now here's a girl I can relate to . Personally I don't care what venues the dj attends. I care about the music they play and how they put their records together. Once they step off the stage, they're just another person in the room (unless off course, you know them). Obviously, the dj who is enjoying themselves on stage brings that extra passion, but not everyone smiles when a sound hits them and the 'miserable' ones did have a choice to be up there too. Overall, it's about the sounds and not the person. This is not a stage play, with the related actor networking required for the non oscar winners. However - as a mini-promoter, I would add that having a dj attend the venue before their booking date is a nice bonus. It shows that they care about what they bring to your night and want to understand what your event is about. We all have busy lives and petrol ain't cheap, so that can't be expected from most. And for me, it rests with the promoter to go out there and get the right mix of everything they want to bring back to their event. Hope that makes sense. not slept much lately. m

I have two or three copies of this (between both homes) and you'll find that the labels come in about that many colours. A few years back there was an extensive posting about these, but can't recall what the "original" release colour was for this Jamaican release. m

I come back home every Easter and popped into a couple of Sydney record shops this week - but there's nothing left ...although Arthur bought a couple of bits m -
I've got a "you" too and have seen this topic on various soul forums before, so also assumed it wasn't that rare. m

If you have the live acts, that would be lovely Will get your details via PM and send them on direct, if you prefer. THANK YOU! m

Thanks Lin. I'm generally afraid of the modern acts in case they get too electronic or house-ie for me, but these unknown acts to me were quite mild (...nice jazzy percussion number by Pete Simpson but my favourite was definitely Afro Elements with Cherrie - wish I'd seen them now) ..... I'm now chasing anybody who may have taken videos of the main room live acts to please PM me . This post >> CLICK HERE << will explain why. m
