Sam had one for £700 at the Lifeline Weekender and that went in a trade soon after, coz I tried to steer him towards reality and then my wallet would have opened. Lovely piece ...wouldn't mind it towards the backing track set. m

....you just wait til we beat you in the soccer ! Frank's from Melbourne and has seen this character before. He did a spot of investigating last time if I remember correctly. Best one to ask imho, always has been. m

So Called Accusations Against Exisiting Members
Maria O replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
or because your real name is a closely guarded secret How far should we go with this - who's telling Butch and Soul Sam that they must use their real names now? Personally I'd struggle if I had to post my full name up here. This is a public list, so if you have a rather conservative job as well (or other such 'separate' part of your life), you'd understand. Besides, some of the nicknames on here are bordering on funny I find these emplty accusers destructive as well, but Mike has a tall order here I'm guessing. Privacy laws do not allow names to be confirmed from an IP address, and Internet cafes allow anonymity if some nutter wants it. An IP address can still be reported, but it does not mean that we'll ever know who it was Good luck, m -
surely this is NOT actually Hayes Cotton (ouch) Rather psychedelic imho m

Oh goodie, here's one I can answer m

- I wish your Home Office thought that way! I was fortunate enough to qualify under the "Highly Skilled Migrant Programme", but been no fun. Can't think of anything to vote for though, but how about: "I Stand Accused" by Tony Colton and the Big Boss Band ? He's giving that some feeling at least m

I consider them both to be equally great, although I sometimes have trouble with certain instruments in soul tunes - so "that's love" loses me during the flute solo. Me thinks that just because you may get off on "Since I found my baby", it doesn't mean that you would necessarily like "that's love, as the latter is very very slow and pretty appropriate for a red wine / low light night in on the lounge, or a very mellow dayer moment where nobody is dancing. That sort of stuff is not popular with as many as those who would get the uplifting feel from "since I found my baby". Just an opinion. m ps. I'm terrible with recalling names (even with records I own ,such as this) and I went through an obsession with "since I found my baby" some time back - and kept asking the boy to put "the eartha kitt record" or "the thingy, watsie and the other one" song on in the car. Shame it's so easy to sing along (& drum) to as well - coz it got banned.

I first saw it as a teen when mod was my thing, amongst various subcultures at the time. I remember my surprise when I then noticed it on Royal Air Force (RAF) planes from the 2nd world war, even though I knew pop art borrowed from existing icons. It didn't look so great after that, as the meaning changed for me. Just did a quick google on such keywords and found this on the bbc website (article from 2003), which may interest you : =============================================================== "MoD's battle over RAF symbol Clothing giant Arcadia Group is at war with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) - over the rights to use the red, white and blue target symbol. The MoD has applied to the Patent Office to register the roundel symbol, which appears on all RAF aircraft, as its trademark for use on clothing lines. However, the high street fashion group has issued a challenge, arguing the roundel was brought into the public domain by the Mod movement of the 1960s. ..." etc ========================================================= Click >>> HERE <<< for the rest of the article Interesting to read that it doesn't stop there, as they also quote: "There is so much prior usage (of the roundel) that I can't believe the MoD have any hope of registration." but if you google "roundel" and "history", you may see the contrary >>> HERE <<< where they start: "The origins of the Royal Air Force roundel come from the First World War. The need to be able to identify aircraft soon became apparent and orders were issued at the end of August 1914 for the Union Flag to be painted on the under-surface of the lower wings. This was satisfactory at low level but was confusing when the aircraft was higher as only the cross was visible..." ...er, sorry if this is getting boring - but I find a lot of answers to stuff I want/need on the internet and usually cross-check etc. You can continue the rest yourself now BTW, If you want to know more about mod stuff, you are probably better off asking on the mod websites rather than the soul ones - as most uk soulies don't swing both ways (DEBATE ) m

Sad News Nige Shaw RIP was: Well Known Soul Sourcer Not To Well
Maria O replied to Nige Brown's topic in All About the SOUL
at Prestatyn I told him that I've given up lecturing him - now I wish I'd ripped into the boy! Sorry this is late mate, but I don't get to this part of the site much and am still away visiting mum. Glad to see this thread, as I didn't think you wanted to be hassled and we only heard at the Yarmouth Weekender (just before I moved north then took 3 flights here). Best wishes from Arthur & myself. Please take some proper time out and rest. Not only is it better for your health, but it is sometimes good for the soul to leave something you love for a bit, then you can appreciate it even more when you get back to it ( aka : Don't be a sh*t and play superman. Behave for once! ) all the best, m x ps. I know there's a certain other bloke that wants you to get better too - he was very upset to hear that his bricklayer was poorly -
Back home the vinyl would be delivered to work and sometimes someone there wanted a peek (especially if you ripped it open to admire and hug the disk). The younger ones looked amazed at seeing a record, the older ones remarked on the big hole and asked what you paid. Even a comparatively modest sum had them gasping and asking what their Seekers and Beatles records might be worth now . There was always the constant "name an artist that you like" question too (god, I hate that one). It was tiresome, especially when they tell you you're a bit of a freak or admire an addiction that you wish you never had. My regular line to newies (fans of the music, who were unfamilar with the scene) was explaining NS dancing as "square dancing with yourself" m m

I happen to hear him offerring his copy for sale when he picked up the spare on the 'other' label. I can remember the venue (hence the rough date) and price, but it's not my place to say ...else I'd be always posting stuff up here m

I can get any man to a pc too, even Sam ..he said it was everything that we said the European nights were - so he loved it! Coincidently, we were at a Berlin soul night last weekend and the Germans are very much looking forward to his visit. I still think SteveG was a brave man m ps. looking forward to Broughton and thanks again for asking Brian. Sorry I had to make us the same night, but practicalities and all that. Just finally bought a car, so maybe one day I'll get a road map for this little country of yours

you must be kidding! I had enough 'glory days of wigan' from the english old farts back home, to last me a lifetime of "those were the days" . I'm not even interested in who discovered what or where it was played, I'd rather worship a soul artist and record any day! Besides, how could I bring up the subject without being told yet again that I waste my life on 'those internet lists' and should just be looking for records ...for him . CUNNIE - yes, he's still got it and plays it for someone regularly. Sorry I won't make your do, I'll be away - but hope it's a goodie BRIAN - most people here must think you're kidding about Sam, but we're just as worried . I hope you stopped him bringing his sales boxes to flight check-in as well m

I think you might be confused with some of his other purchases from the US. Not my usual era, but as I absolutely adore this record (only heard it first time when Keb released it on a comp some years ago), I therefore bothered to ask that bloke Arthur about it. From what I recall, he got it from Soul Bowl in the late 70's. Then I asked him if he had a spare (not that I'd venture in that sales box) and the bugger said that he had one 20 years ago, but sold it! I would have at least tried for the eBay copy, but also heard about someone locating LaRom. Never heard any confirmation that he had any for sale, but it was worry enough. Still no confirmation I gather Brew? - would love one myself someday, it's such a rhythmic romantic record (...well actually, I believe "orgasmic" is how I last described it) m
-
Nah, my mum's parcels can take as little as 2 days from Sydney to London. You would start to worry after 5 working days, but the US can vary from 5 days to a month for vinyl. PM me his details Pete and I'll send my heavies round - or I'll try drop in on him, on my upcoming visit m

one of the English guys in Australia thought of this about 5 or 6 years ago (in the dial-up days), for a dayer/soul night. He had tested it before the soul night and it worked fine. However, the silly boy forgot to dial "0" to get an outside line from the venue, and didn't phone anyone to check that it was working. I had flown over from another city and wasn't keen on his idea, kept dodging the camera all night. I was so relieved it didn't work. No problem with the music going over - just thought pictures idea was a bit mean and a bit of a actually. People are already videoing events, but that's historical (memories can be nice). For me, the idea of downstreaming it live, makes me think that struggling nights might struggle more and ask ... would it be that good for promotion?... would it bring in fresh blood? ...would it turn armchair soulies back to "on topic" posters? ...would it refresh sounds faster? ...would it go down well with a spicy tai takeaway and a good french red? m

Thanks for the info , I didn't know it came out twice. Mine has "Have Myself Ah Cry" (correct 'ah' spelling) on the flip, which sounds like a girly Motown sound - so it can be a bit ....annoying. m
-
Not sure - until that voice in the background stops saying "be afraid ...be VERY afraid!" m
-
Thanks Trev ! What a shame she didn't record more with that glorious voice of hers. Also noticed there's more on the CD for those interested there too - just >>CLICK HERE<< m

I adore Madeline . It's got a certain sexiness that Shirley is too clean for. Don't think it ever made it on a USA 45? ...but it definitely did in a certain other foreign country m
-
so is mine, but another completely different label design exists - seen it, hugged it. It has the more 70's look font of the label, coloured orange or tan from what I recall. Had the album for years, a very kind discount copy from an old friend. Sadly I haven't unpacked the dozen or so favourite LP's I brought over yet, should do when I settle somewhere properly . Been missing the title track and "I'll Come Running Back" at home - nice enough to play the whole thing through. Think I recall seeing an email somewhere that Sandra had started up her own website, or is that a weekend ...ender dream? m
-
I'm a real sh*t for leaving this on the shelf long ago - been busy since I moved countries. If you still want a hand, I can probably do some after next weekend... Email me the ftp codes again if interested. (will be handing over the Stow-A-Way Soul website sometime soon-ish, so might get bored ) m

just over a year ago, red ones started appearing on eBay. Probably saw 10 or so (had it on "watch" for a couple of years, so a bit of a shock) and they still show up now as I renew most watches. Not seen so many of the other ones really, not that I tend to look at decks here m
