It reminded me of our old station Mal, less posters and decks on other side, but otherwise so similar. First time i'd been in a studio since and these guys were so welcoming and fun too, but I stayed off air so you should not have heard me. ...Although we were in hysterics when Arthur started panelling nervously for the first time (ever) about an hour into the show and then accidently pulled the lever on his chair - he was talking live on air and suddently shrunk downward in his seat and nearly disappeared under the desk but still trying to talk into the mic like a true professional. Not laughed so hard in ages, giggling as I write this and remembering. We didn't record the show, thought it was only a local broadcast until we got there so I let a few people know quickly. Turns out 'The Soul Shack' broadcasts every Sunday 7pm-10pm and often with various guests. m

Not familiar with all the accronyms, got myself confused initially thinking the "D" meant "double" ;-) But it's actually really great value for this grand spa hotel at £150 per person for two nights with DBB (Dinner, bed & breakfast) or £120 per person for 2 nights with B&B (bed & breakfast)... with detox facilities (pool, jacuzzi, sauna) thrown in for the party crowd or a banquet of sporty facilities available for the seriously mad. Let those fingers do some walking and book before you blow it on something silly! m

I wasn't planning to post. I am sure many of his friends are still in shock and will be sending condolences directly to his family, just as we preferred. But without discussing the idea with anyone, I think any memorial should be what Ronnie & the family want, and I'm sure that anyone they ask to help out will be there for them (including ourselves). Many don't know this, but Gary came along with me to make the final booking with the Canal Tavern to start our night - this was his local and he knew the owners. He had no issues, even though he had a well-deserved respected history there. Instead, he has always been very supportive and kind over the years to myself & Karen for bringing the place back as a soul venue. Even before that link, Gary went out of his way for a friendly chat - with me, not just with my man who is a longtime friend. That's the kind of guy he was, ask anyone. He will be missed by so many. m

I wrote a long story about this back then, but just a few points tonight: Got mine from Butch 7 months and two weeks after first hearing it on 16th February 2002, same moment Arthur Fenn first heard it, Sam got his from Butch before I got mine, after hearing it from Arthur at Trentham Gardens (where it got the first outing for the soul scene wave). Arthur got his from Keb Darge, who said he got it from Butch (Keb found a copy not long after trading his copy to Arthur, via someone djing before him at a funk event in Europe). I disappeared back to Oz once I got mine, but heard quite a few copies turned up the following year (2003) on the UK soul scene, which Butch and I think Andy Dyson were selling. By the time I returned the following year, it was being described as "overplayed" on the rare scene. I had found one of the band members online before I bought mine, but didn't feel right about chasing the copy another band member had. Someone in the UK caught on to the title early and told me that's how they got theirs, but she later sold it on. m

Maybe it comes from growing up in a big city and having bars on our windows (to keep people out, not in), but I like some privacy choice. This is a public forum, open to ANYONE on the internet to read. You can find a real name, their birthday, details about private lives if they put themselves 'out there' a bit, when they're out "clubbing" and sometimes when they're on holiday. Great for identity theft, just for starters - and much less hassle then Facebook hacking I'd guess. Some people have conservative jobs where social and professional on-line personalities are best kept very separate. Googling others happens as the norm for work contacts, but a few years ago someone at work simply got curious after overhearing bits of my phone conversations and I found myself removing my surname from our website, embarassed that others wanted to see what he saw. Maybe we also simply don't want work mates knowing about our strange world of soul or collection fetishes. It's just easier not to confuse them with something they'll never understand . At the same time, there have been certain people who have been very shitty with their behaviour on Soul Source, then hidden behind obscure user names. I personally would prefer if they were outed more . m

Was just fiddling with my camera looking for the videos after reading this page. Guess what the first photo was? ---- I was really pleased I didn't see any reviews before I went, because it made it all even better with what came. Wasn't sure what to expect on how good he would be and was surprised to see the further travelled familiar faces out on a school night and after the snow. Like others, Lee blew us away and boy could he sing - and moooove! I just loved getting closer and watching his face as he put his all into his performance. If he was on in Manchester tonight instead of last night, I'm sure we'd go again (I need not ask). Someone needs to get him on at a weekender.. we want more (please)! m
