  1. Yes The Zombies version is my absolute favourite! The reason is that this is a perfect pop song and that Colin Blundstone has the perfect pop voice! Unfortunately their version has a very bad sound quality but maybe that just makes it even more charming? And by the way I saw them the other week. First time they visited Sweden for 45 years and the first concert I've payed for to go to in almost 10 years.
  2. I would probably dance to it if I heard it in a club and didn't know what it was but how can anobody say that this is real soul music? For me it is someting completely different from this. Real soul is music, politics, skin colour and much, much more! This is just music!
  3. No! This is exactly what what new soul music is not supposed to sound like!! This is new music trying to sound like it did in the 60's or 70's and has nothing to do with the 21'st century. The music I love has nothing to do with kids trying to copy the sound that in it's time was progressive and political. This is so far away from that! I have nothing against it but it hasn't anything to do with soul music!
  4. Why would anyone except for Kenny use a scan of his copy? It's so easy to scan your own or even take a picture to validate it is the real thing! As I have understood it someone (although very trustworthy) just tells John Manship he/she has a copy but doesn't even have a scan or photo of it and no one has seen it. Very strange but I love to speculate and to read other peoples speculations to!
  5. Never even knew about the original version although I had a feeling it was a cover. You don't hear a lot about knights and stuff in soul music! Just looked it up on Spotify and I like it too!
  6. To the people outside the soul scene I'm definately a soul snob. On the soul scene I'm just like everybody else. That's what I love!
  7. I dont usually whine about record prices but this is just retarded. Promo or not this is a record that is on Ebay at least every week and always goes cheap. I thought it was pretty well known too? Anyway it's a fantastic song!
  8. A Northern record can't be too messy! Remember a couple of years ago when (I think) Kitch played it. I was completely worn out when it ended and I was looking for a place to sit down for a while. Then he just moved the needle to the start again. Absolutely fabulous!
  9. The one on Tobin is very different and not very good but the flip side "Hey Little Girl" is a fantastic stormer!
  10. Shirley Brown - Even If The Signs Are Wrong
  11. It's so nice to hear from someone like you! I don't have any advice to do with the recordings but I'm sure there is people on here that know what to do.
  12. On the same cd they also sampled The Four Tops - I Just Can't Get You Out of My Mind in their song "A Week Away" and Rare Pleasire - Let Me Down Easy in "A Trip Into Space". Haven't listened to this record in years but just took it out and found it to be really great!
  13. This poster was in an article in a Swedish music magazine in 1996. First time I read about Northern Soul and what got me hooked!
  14. Love him! He's the only singer I've got more than three 12" with. Also love his ex wife SuSu Bobien.
  15. My absolute favourit singer of all time! Sad news indeed.
  16. Thought that this had been a £700+ for years but maybe I'm wrong?
  17. A Fantastic record but £15 is probably the right value.
  18. Can't everybody agree that Modern Soul is everything after the 31:st of January 1969? It would be so much easier. Call the newer stuff whatever you want. I love good house or soul music but I hate the music that if you hear it you don't know if it is from 1996 or 2006. That is why I stopped collecting or caring about it in a serious way.. It is so easy to know the difference between 1965-1969 or 1971-1978 but try to do the same with new soul music.
  19. Found some interesting info on really expensive audio equipment here: List of the worlds most expensive... Turntables: https://www.higherfi.com/ttlist/ttlist.htm Speakers: https://www.higherfi.com/spkrlist/speakerlist.htm Amps: https://www.higherfi.com/amplist/amplist.htm
  20. Patty Young - Head and Shoulders The Fantasions - G.I. Joe We Love You Tony Troutman - What's The Use (I don't know why I hate this, But I do.)
  21. I have always thought that they sounded crap compared to a real hi-fi turntable but a friend of mine who is much more into sound says they are really good! Espescially if you change the tone arm.
  22. I've got a Luxman PD-272 turntable from ca 1980. Looks and plays better than many of the new hi-fi stuff. I just love how the tone arm looks! Project phono stage, Denon M-33 mini system and Dali Concept speakers. Only 2 x 22 W but enough for my mini apartment!
  23. I have the complete opposite problem: Too much spare time but not enough soul nights!
  24. Thanks for a great story! Haven't noticed the "Hustle" flutes before. I love stories about how the music we love was made!
