  1. Another great passes. What a catalogue the man left us with.
  2. Classic quartet sound from the imperious Swan Silvertones. Another beauty from the fabulous Jackson Southernaires. Loved this at the time of its release.
  3. This beautiful track should be on everyone's playlist
  4. Sad news. Maze were high quality and Frankie fronted the band to a tee. Saw them in London when they were at their peak. A great night. He leaves behind some superb recordings.
  5. Great selection but the best is saved to the last. That Sandra Wright track is a stunner.
  6. Bettye Swann's majestic version of This old heart of mine is worth the price of the CD by itself.
  7. Another great selection. Much enjoyed, many thanks.
  8. Not sure about the sweater and baseball cap but this singer is seriously impressive. An amazing set of pipes!
  9. One of the greats. Fantastic, distinctive, original singer with an electric on stage persona.
  10. Magnificent. A truly great record. Perfect in its construction and execution.
  11. I read somewhere that the master tapes were with Annette when she died in the plane crash. Great to have a couple of tracks from the MS sessions. But 40+ years in the can? She was a fabulous singer. Who knows what she might have recorded.
  12. As far as radio is concerned I rated Peter Young highly. Championed Soul music, knowledgeable, open minded, enthusiastic with a great manner at the mic. He was also a really funny bloke.
  13. Oh crap! Thats depressing. A totally unique voice and tip top soul man.
  14. Another great singer passes... His Goldwax recording are fabulous but i love this later track.
  15. You're getting the hang of putting these mixes together ! Love that Lorraine Rudolph track. She was some singer.
  16. To my mind he was a genius. Wonderful songwriter but his productions were on a different level. R.I.P
  17. That was rather tasty. Some great tracks. Much enjoyed, thanks.
  18. Bruce is OK. The River is a great song. Doing covers of soul tracks is fine by me., not that i think this particular cover is anything to write home about.
  19. If pushed i'd go for Stax. Just a bit earthier, tougher and with the Muscle Shoals connection. Southern soul, for me, just hits the spot more often. But we are comparing chalk and cheese to a degree as records made for Stax in Memphis just couldnt have been made by Motown in Detroit and vice versa.
  20. Simply one of the greats. Difficult to pick one track from an artist who was responsible for so much high quality recordings but i think this is a neat track from an outstanding album.
  21. That guy can sing. I mean really sing. Great presence and a lovely rapport with the audience. Not sure about some of the material but i want to hear more of them.
  22. The original is so damn good! That insistent piano, bubbling percussion, nifty guitars and Ronnie's sax on top. A classic. Never fails to grab my attention.
  23. Very nice. Pick for me is the Shirley Caesar track but there are no duds here.
  24. Jackson or Collins for me. Think they have the fuller, more interesting arrangements. Collins delivers a good performance and the whole thing is very nicely put together, but i'm going with Jackson for his well judged vocal, the very interesting vocal harmony arrangement and those vibes!
  25. Nice compilation. William is one of Soul's most under rated singers. No mean composer or producer either.
