  1. You'll find that "B" plays exclusive genuine studio acetates not self-cut 'emidiscs' ... And most of his so-called cover-ups are in fact untitled/uncredited studio acetates so not cover-ups as such. I personally , as would most I'd wager , would hate to see his one-offs churned out to the masses as bootlegs or played out at every Mickey Mouse soul night off a laptop.
  2. Well Jack and Victor do a brilliant impression of a sad handbaggers soul nite ...
  3. Evidence would be nice ...
  4. What was the result of the visit to the guy's shed/barn ? I've just re-read the 2011 thread and it kinda left us hanging in mid-air ...
  5. Just imagine it the other way around , would anyone want to hear F***k W****n at a reggae night , absolutely not ! Probably the wrong example as nobody really wants to hear it at a soul night either ...
  6. I had the chance to go to the last few months of Wigan niters and was keen as a newbie to see what all the fuss was about. But everyone told me to avoid it like the plague and I heeded their advice going down the Wirrina , Oddfellows , TOTW , 100 Club route ...
  7. Nothing shocking about it .
  8. You have to allow that to any newcomer everything is new to them. Back in '81/82 when I was just starting out on this lifelong journey I was often sneered at for enjoying dancing to "that tired old shite" and being told to "get in the 'newies' room and learn something" by the older folk that had been through the Torch and Wigan. But it was all 'newies' to me who'd just come from an earlier life into the similarly 'phet fueled punk scene and I was like a kid in a sweet shop trying to catch up on the past whilst absorbing the new , all at the same time , and loving it. So I welcome anyone to start that same journey and enjoy hearing these wonderful tunes for the first time. I just wish they'd disconnect from the bloody internet and the rest of the world while they did it and enjoy it properly and fully immersed in the music rather than wandering around trying to film their every move , or sitting glued to their screens for hours on end googling something or other obivious to what's going on around them. If I ever run a soul night or nighter , thinking about it for my 65th in a while , I guarantee that all phones , cameras and video equipment a bit like guns in Tombstone , will be handed over for safe-keeping at the door else you won't be coming in. I suspect the floor will be sparsely occupied however because every bugger'll be out in the carpark vaping and Snapchatting ...
  9. Different times I'm afraid , the opening lines of this old favourite of mine sums up what it's all about these days ...
  10. What , and have you crucify me for dragging prices down or pushing prices up ...
  11. What's the true value though ? Looking at Popsike's 'New to Old' values it looks about right to me , it's just the one entry at the top of the list that's double the average and that's a demo , or am I missing something ... ?
  12. Solved and sorted two days ago thanks anyway ... And for the record , I had a figure I was prepared to pay for the very long time want that was in the auction , and it turns out it was a figure that nobody else was willing to top. So said item is now winging its way to me and a very happy chappy I am too ...
  13. She "wants to reach as many people as I can" ... I'd like her to start with a year or two on the wannabe new hotbed of soul that is 'Tristan da Cunha' aka 'Edinburgh of the Seven Seas' ...
  14. Thought I was going to get lucky and catch the three Spitfires together from Imperial War Museum Duxford that had been on a jolly to Dover and back , but they split up just before they got to mine so I only got to grab a few frames of the two-seater "Elizabeth" as she shot past . Here's the best three frames. Canon EOS 90D + Sigma 150-600C.
  15. I've always been perfectly happy with auctions Mal , I know how much I'm prepared to pay for an item and if someone's prepared to pay more so be it ...
  16. I was asking the question regarding bidding not selling but thanks anyway ...
  17. Last one on e-bay was £800 ...
  18. So in that case he must get his commision solely from the vendor , that's very good of him from the buyers point of view ... I'll give him a ring in the morning just make sure and report back for future reference to others. Thanks for the reply ...
  19. Does anyone know what's added to the final winning bid these days ? I've scoured his site from top to tail with no hint of a commision percentage anywhere. I can't believe that your winning bid is the price you pay plus postage. I've e-mailed John the question but have had no response as yet. Trying to judge your upper limit bidding-wise is a pain when you don't know how much extra you're going to get stung for after the auction's done. A search on here throws up a figure of 20% being bandied about but that was years back.
