  1. "I know that Discogs is heavily attempting to block them from sale (they haven't got it covered yet completely" They are not even close to having it covered.. look at this, bootlegs the lot of them: https://www.discogs.com/label/692572-Soul-From-The-Vaults
  2. Whole programme very depressing, the amount of scumbags out there....hardly news, I know. Also, must be first time ever a Paul Kelly record - even if fake - has been seen on the BBC....
  3. One of the greatest of all soul singers, and woefully underrated. Her music has given me hundreds of hours of pleasure. It was my dream to possibly see her live at somewhere like Bilbao but clearly no longer an option. RIP.
  4. It sounds to me as if Joni Wilson is simply singing over the Parliaments "All Your Goodies are gone" original. Both backing track and backing vocals seem more or less identical on each record to my ears.
  5. The cost / value of a record is never of any particular importance to me but it has just struck me that I have absolutely no idea what - if any - CDs are "in demand" and /or expensive....do such things exist?
  6. Would be interested in buying this if anyone has one for sale. Thanks.
  7. Hello, I'm after a copy of his 1964 U.K. LP on Columbia 33SX 1728 thanks John
  8. The Power Of Attorney
  9. "Any idea if the AGNL Chris Bartley cut 'since there's no doubt'?" Sorry, but I don't understand question...I don't know which 'since there's no doubt' you mean......
  10. My book made the following suggestions as to the singers on the tracks below. I can't say for definite they are 100% accurate but they seem certainly possible : "Ain't Got No Love " - Chris Bartley "What Kind Of A Man " - Sidney Barnes " The Woman Who Made Me A Man" - Billy Woods
  11. While I admire the concept, I don't understand the pricing. For example, the first release, The "Soul Explosion" compilation, is up on Amazon for just short of £34. You can buy originals on discogs for a quarter of this price. So why would anyone want the new one?
  12. Great artist, love this super, witty, hugely funky, under rated side from 1994
  13. Here's a fine new release which seems to have generally gone unnoticed: https://www.discogs.com/Nat-Turner-Rebellion-Laugh-To-Keep-From-Crying/release/13458663
  14. The Soul Harmony Singles book references Elijah Jones as TNJ's lead singer.
  15. I don't believe there is any link between The Tangeers and The TNJ's - two totally different groups as far as I am aware. Steve's Wand book does give more info on The Tangeers : he says they were Cora Boykins (replaced by Elaine Jones) , Bobby Covington, Richard Quarles, Earle Beale and Bill Hagie at one point .
  16. Intrigued and very surprised to see Tony Mason's "Bring the country to the city" at #2 on the WDAS 1966 chart....which presumably meant it got a fair bit of airplay....nearly all the other songs there are much better known
  17. Great news Alex, very much look forward to seeing you and these wonderful acts there.. Best John
  18. "what Secretariat does to the race track".... i.e burns it up, or words to that effect. Secretariat was a famous American race horse.
  19. The Machine LP, unbelievable.......looking at a list like this just proves yet again that prices still - for some records, obviously, not all -- only go in one direction - up.
  20. Another thing to consider is whether all sales actually find their way to Discogs. For example, I bought a record from Discogs two weeks ago, The site still shows the last sale as having taken place eight months ago. Mine may appear in time, I suppose, but it's not there yet.
  21. Golden Hits Now LP Atac AT 2743 Wanted please. If anyone has one for sale, please pm me. Thanks
  22. 1. Don Covay - Bad Mouthing "You think you can get any man you want just because you look good But It ain't how good the car looks baby, it's what's up under the hood" 2. Bettye Swann - Be Strong Enough To Hold On "The flame of love is dying, and your heart is turning cold I can feel your love fading in the night Have you forgot, how much I loved you Have you forgot, how she did you wrong You were weak enough to love me, be strong enough to hold on She's just using your little children to try and get next to you Oh I know that's only her excuse, to come by here, to see you, and to call you on the telephone You were weak enough to love me, be strong enough to hold on"
  23. They - Record Collector - featured a particularly good book review in this month's edition ! : ) They also printed a letter (or, probably e-mail) from Tony Cummings , well known ex soul music writer And Ian McCann's regular column on soul music is always good...
  24. I spent a fair bit of time trying to track down the members; without much joy. I could only come up with Bobby Taylor as well.
