  1. And I'd like to add that I am not intimating that it's the same seller on ebay that I got the abuse from on here
  2. Not this again, it was listed on here and I commented how it was 'comedy sale of the day' as a light hearted comment, and if anyone wanted a copy I have a white label copy they can have for the postage which I was given over 20 years ago, the other side is mildly amusing for about 2 minutes. Got all kinds of nasty personal abuse from the seller saying I'd 'ruined his sale'. Last sold on discogs for £2.97. Clown.
  3. Remember Rod Dearlove telling me how he had a load of people contacting him for a kool & the gang 45 (chocolate buttermilk possibly) and he replied every time 'sorry, my dog ate em all'. Seems he used a box of 45's to prop the door open, and to distract his dog Marvin he'd throw him a Kool & the Gang 45 and Marvin would sit happily chewing away on it for hours and stay away from chewing on anything else
  4. OH YES IT REALLY IS HAPPENING, SUNDAY MAY 4th! https://www.victoriabaths.org.uk/downloads/pages/Un-Rest_at_Victoria_Baths_Press.docx

^^^ what he said. Rob, out of interest, what events are you talking about exactly? I go to modern soul events. People mix very well at many of them when it's the right material. They don't at northern/70's events as it doesn't work, as Byrney is saying cheers Sutty
  6. This is where there is meant to be a dance-off against morris dancers? is this happening?
  7. one version, released twice in JA, both the same from the ones i've heard, never heard of the strings version on JA. 1st release black/silver label, 2nd release blue/white label. other version is the same recording as the JA with strings overdubbed for the UK market cheers Sutty

this 'argument' is irrelevant to the soul scene. The music is not generally made to be beat mixed, its sounds rubbish when someone starts trying to scratch over/with it, and by the same argument I could say anyone playing reggae out is no good because they're not employing either of those methods and mostly use one deck and a mic. Certain methods of presenting music as a DJ work with certain styles of music and not always with others, do what suits at the time and in the environment and stop trying to compare or impose rules, as there is the dichotomy, by attempting to break the rules you are in effect making rules again. A good DJ wil do what is best in the environment to best present the music they are playing, beyond that what else should they be doing? cheers Sutty
  9. Just a heads up, there is a copy on discogs but the seller is a greedy idiot. I bought it at a reasonable price and he ignored the purchase and put it up again for £500. I see today that he has put it up again for £600! So basically, don't bother with seller fairhavenave on there if you are tempted...good luck cheers Sutty
  10. Always thought 'waiting on you' was the killer (also on 12, same version as the LP), caned it for many years cheers Sutty
  11. That's the 45 from the motown box, nothing dodgy about it. It was from the unreleased 'David' LP, since released on CD
  12. Check Derrick Harriotts version if you don't know it
  13. Anyway the trains left the station now, it's in the lap of the gods. I just hope it turns out that people who get into it are more like Tom (hello Sir!) on here and really get into it and not major record company marketing depts (unless they do it properly like you Ian) - shine your shoes sir? ))))
  14. I understand your viewpoint Ian but since when was the NS or soul scene about commerciality? It's about uncommerciality isn't it, the music that doesn't fit in with the mainstream and challenges the listener and gives more back, creates passion, offers more. So what if a tune sells a million, Phil Collins sells more than that on a bad day I expect. If it's a gateway to truly great soul music all good, but let's not be fooled into believing that its anything other than that as it is a pop record that will be about as memorable as all the rest of the pop shite that had its 5 minutes then disappeared thank god. It's not exactly Mel Britt is it, but it could lead to people hearing Mel Britt for the first time and going 'wtf is this'. Everyone starts somewhere and should be welcomed, but not at the expense of a watered down soul scene catering for pop music, when it loses what it is all about. It will survive. Hard to get the point over without sounding patronising or elitist, which is not the intention at all, just the opposite. IMHO again of course m8, hope to catch up soon for a beer!
  15. I've kept my mouth firmly shut til now but... There is absolutely zero common ground between 'happy' and 'move on up' Ian. Happy is not even a soul record, it's just another pop record with a motown-style beat if you like, just as Culture Club 'church of the poison mind' or Vanessa Paradis 'Be My Baby' were. I really can't see how it represents anything to do with soul music other than it's the most commercial end of it possible. It's become almost sacrilegious to not like this recording and you are deemed as some kind of killjoy if you don't want to jump up and down and sing it at the top of your voice. I'd rather listen to the many new releases over the last 10 years and more that shit all over it from a great height personally. The NS connection is a marketing mans dream come true, I'm really not at all interested in that angle, the scene existed before it and the Brits and it will afterwards. Young people getting into soul music - fantastic, it's great music. Pop music masquerading as soul, no thanks IMHO Cheers Sutty
  16. How did they not use the line "I think its time to go, Nad"

Ok. I just played the Canadian 12 listed as 'can I flow' and... It plays 'Funny Love'!, so it appears that the label and sleeve are misprinted!

My point was that there is no UK release, Boomtang is a Canadian label/production co out of Toronto. Whether they did 2 different issues/promos is a different matter I guess, but what is more revealing from their website is they probably are not that bothered as they produced 'the hamster dance' and made a packet ;)))) oh oh and they are the same people that did 'love trip' which I never connected. And Charlene Smith 'feel the good times' so I have 3 12's by them ( and one isn't the hamster dance)

Full album is CD only, this is the e.p. you will be looking for https://www.discogs.com/Sean-Oliver-You-And-Me/release/1862484
  21. i was about to post that solid solution up, amazing record, and I generally listen to it back to back with this one
  22. What you need is a professional setup, such as mine for example. Not only can you play your 45s on it, it's got a built in centre adaptor that pops up, and you can tape them as well if you splash out on the tape deck. Just make sure you ask everyone in the room to be quiet while you do it and you definitely don't want anyone eating crisps within 20 feet
  23. Leon Thomas on Flying Dutchman Then one around 19:11 is Pharrell, Ivan Dewsbury's favourite 'soul' record of all time )))))
  24. That label has so obviously been removed, there's even small tears left on it, what a scammer!
