Where Are All The Bootlegs/reissues Coming From
Wasn't that Adidas issue with the label design, not the music content? You are more likely to be sued for artwork on than copyrighted music, the corporates are really hot on their logos. Those 'Adidas' 45s, I'd be very surprised if they're licensed in any way at all, there's a load of them out. There's tons of boots not just on juno but all over the net in all genres and have been for years, you can walk into any new record store and pick out 'reissue' look-a-like albums that are mastered from cd with scanned covers in all genres, the whole vinyl bootleg retail industry is rife (so unfair for us to single out juno). I mean look at the 'lookalike' disco 12" 'reissue' sections out there... cheers Sutty

John Manship Auction Results 11 -2 - 2015
Thanks Jim and Cover-Up, so looks like there are 3 variations, original solid as sold in the auction and original pronged centre then what looks like a later boot with a solid centre. I have been told it was pressed up for demand, and as the 2-step and reggae scenes were a little inter-twined... The solid one I saw recently was definitely not right, looked like a JA press if anything the printing/label was poor and it was definitely worse sound quality. The auction price wasn't bad it's gone for more than that in recent years cheers Sutty

John Manship Auction Results 11 -2 - 2015
I was always under the impression that the Esther Byrde rough looking solid centre was a boot/2nd issue pressed on demand, and the original pronged centre is the only original? was I ill advised (I passed the info on to someone recently who had the solid centre who was disappointed, I hope I didn't let them down!). Anyone know? cheers Sutty

Funk Night On Bbc4 - Tonight (Friday 5 Dec 2014)
There are always useful titbits in these rockumentaries from the BBC people. I never knew that Herbie Hancock recorded with the famous Welsh trumpet player Miles Davies, or that Stevie Wonder got a synthesizer in New York in the middle-70s after he left Motown, then proceeded to use it to make a series of groundbreaking albums over the previous 5 years which were all released on Motown, as has every record he's ever made, but I guess time travelling is one of his many talents, along with releasing albums on non-Motown labels that don't exist. As always mainstream TV is an education

This Is Why
I guess you know it's a Curtis Mayfield composition from 1964, original released by Gene Chandler with the Impressions on backing? If you don't, be prepared for something a bit good cheers Sutty

Another How Much
I know some of these northern soul records are classed as old by today's youth, but I never realised quite how far back they went https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Northern-Soul-Prehistoric-Pressings-5-Of-The-Best-Low-Start-Auction-/131343669230?pt=UK_Records&hash=item1e94b157ee

John Manship Auction Results 15 - 10 - 2014
West Wing LP, Mint copy on discogs for ages, still there at £75, because it's over-priced and never sold for more than £30 tops. There really are some nutcases out there! LOL

Copeland Davis Group - Morning Spring / Dj ''s'' Bootleg Bonus Beat
I agree with you, the re-editing is bad, the beat works but it then makes it boring after a minute or two. I'll stick with the original and go back to listening to Amerigo Gazaway, proper re-editing and remixing. cheers Sutty

£25 And Under Dj Sets
The moment any scene judges what music should be played based on the value of a record is a miserable day. I see events with people saying 'OVO from £5 to £1000'. Wtf is that all about, are you meant to take a calculator with you? Having said that, there was a guy at a do I used to attend some years back that refused to dance to anything 'worth' less than £100, and would leave the dancefloor uttering 'cheap shit', which was a source of great hilarity, so it has it's advantages I suppose cheers Sutty

Rumer
Sounds like Fleetwood Mac to me, can't hear much soul content just pleasant-ish radio-friendly MOR sounds

Modern Soul Unknown?
Well it's all a bit messy and it's not modern soul by any stretch so maybe that was your downfall ;) (no offence)

Gemm Having Financial Problems ?
people don't use gemm, they use discogs as thats where a google search takes them. I stopped selling there years ago, i got 2/3 times the price on discogs quite quickly for records i'd had on gemm for 2 years unsold. They've seriously lagged behind other portals and are a fool to themselves if they expect to survive. IMHO. cheers Sutty

Looking For Marvin?
Crazybeat have copies of the RSD 12 @ £15 if anyone is still looking for Marvin cheers Sutty

Looking For Marvin?
Its not Dave, the lets get it on version has whistling on it, as does the funk and soul 12, all tracks on that 12 were ripped from the expanded cd. Best of and biscuit 12 are the same, no whistling.

Looking For Marvin?
Ok, for the 4th time, let's clear this all up First played from DAT, Chris Phillips on kiss, I still have the tape of it with the story of how he got sent it from one of the Mizzells and Marvin was staying with them in LA and they recorded 2 tracks in their basement one night. He was in LA mixing lets get it on. They of course wrote and produced for Donald Byrd. Some years later the best of cd came out & I told everyone on EMS email list the day it came out, I remember Gareth Donovan pretending he had some late night shopping to do to his missus that night as it was bizarrely sold initially through Tescos as a cheap comp. then the alt version was on the lets get it on expanded cd - Funk and soul 12 was booted from this and contains 3 other tracks as well from that edition Then booted again on the biscuit 12 from the best of cd then it came out on vinyl on the motown lets get it on expanded edition 2xLP. now this 12, which contains the 2nd Mizzells track, never previously released. and lets not forget the Funk Inc version, which is great too. Ciao Sutty

Looking For Marvin?
As I said before, this came out on the vinyl version of the expanded 'lets get it on' album along with all the other unreleased tracks, so it's not the first vinyl release. However, woman of the world is the first release of any kind, so it's worth your dollar for sure! oh and there are two 12" boots of wawg, one with the whistling, one without, cheers Sutty

Value Please - Mary Lou Williams & Group Featuring Leon Thomas
Mary Lou Williams was a very influential jazz pianist, not a vocalist, she ran an open house and taught Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker & Thelonious Monk amongst others. In the world of piano playing she was without doubt a genius. She's made 100's of recordings including some really unusual albums including 'black Christ of the Andes' featuring a choir, and 'Mary Lou's Mass' featuring Carl Hall on vocals. Mary was her label. I've got a couple of 10" albums by her that are fantastic modal jazz trio pieces. I never knew about the 45 in this thread until a few years back and it sounds completely pants to me, and I'm not sure why Leon Thomas got involved either cos he's done loads of better stuff as well, but each to their own! Jazzman released a track each off the lp's mentioned above worth checking but they're jazz not um whatever the 45 here is ( sounds like something from a 50s strip movie to me lol) Cheers Sutty

Callum Quarton Discogs Seller?
Discogs are unlikely to help, they're not the seller. Have you mailed the paypal address rather than using discogs messaging/sale updates? Some people don't have email notifications on and don't pick up messages (had this last week, when I mailed the guy, all sorted), or quite poss on hols or something has happened (if sellers feedback is good, expect it will turn out fine, it's rare I hit a real problem with anyone, most people are amicable I've found, much less like the Wild West than EvilBay) cheers Sutty
