  1. Ray, Goodman and Brown 'Another Day' from their 1st album https://www.discogs.com/Ray-Goodman-Brown-Ray-Goodman-Brown/master/151216 cheers Sutty
  2. very sad, way too young, great vocalist
  3. It was his niece I think he said so no vocal to compare on that one. Willie Tee demo, sounds nothing like him, should be retitled 'the man who cried wolf' ;)
  4. Its not an acetate its the issue, its just a pretty rough pressing, same as mine, cheers Sutty
  5. Priceless, seeing as it doesn't exist
  6. What happens when a shady dealer finds a few uninformed bidders? sold 3 days ago for $810...
  7. Yes, the Russian double LP has all the tracks from the Deluxe 'Let's Get It On' double CD. Sounds like the one you saw advertised is a mis-press, but I bought it when it came out and it was all correct, and good quality too.
  8. Good points but I think your sums are a bit out there? It's 20% above £15, so on £40 that's 20% of £25 = £5, plus a handling charge of £8 is £53. I've had to pay a couple of times and I certainly can't pay at the door, the postie is not allowed to collect payments, they get given a card and drop it through the door, they don't even have the package to give you, you have to pay and collect from the sorting office. cheers Sutty
  9. There's a lot of mint copies around, it's been up for sale almost weekly for a couple of years on eBay. Sellers are asking around £150 but it's way too common a record now to command that price for me. I am assuming a few boxes were found, it seems that way. Nice record. cheers Sutty
  10. I spent years chasing that album on the strength of 'eyes of love' to blank looks, eventually got one and then realised its not actually very good!
  11. Even more impressive is that fact that they were playing James Ingram before it was even recorded You're right though, those tunes were massive everywhere, I never went to Kings Hall but certainly heard them out regularly, and you were often there Dave! cheers Sutty
  12. Hi Bob that's only the inflated advertised price from a chancer in Italy hoping someone is gullible enough to fall for it - all his records are stupidly overpriced. Donald Byrd 'Places & Spaces' for £230 anyone? average selling price - £11. J,R. Bailey single for £36? average selling price less than a fiver. It also has the makings of a scam, get some feedback then hit someone with a big sale and the record never arrives. Either way he's a tw*t. cheers Paul
  13. I think if you paid off your card it goes back on your card, if you paid out of paypal it goes back into paypal balance, that's what happened to me in the past - but only if they use the refund option within paypal. If they just send you the money it stays in paypal, cheers Sutty
  14. There's a LOT isn't there! i've only included albums I would put on from start to finish and would be lost without them, no 1 or 2 trackers and very little if no filler for me... both Dyson's Faces LP's (well one and a half albums really) Mike James Kirkland 'hang on in there' Gil Scott-Heron 'pieces of a man' and 'winter in America' Temptations 'sky's the limit' Sly & The Family Stone 'there's a riot goin' on' Spaceark 'spaceark is' (2nd album) Gloria Scott 'what am i gonna do' RAMP 'come into knowledge' Smokey Robinson & The Miracles 'what love has joined together' Shuggie Otis 'inspiration information' Curtis Mayfield 'curtis' / 'curtis live' / 'roots' / 'superfly' James Mason 'rhythm of life' Jon Lucien - the 3 RCA albums Al Johnson 'peaceful' Willie Hutch 'ode to my lady' Isaac Hayes 'black moses' Leroy Hutson I and II Donny Hathaway 'extension of a man' Marvin Gaye 'whats going on' and 'let's get it on' Garland Green 'jealous kind of fella' Ted Coleman Band 'taking care of business' Lou Courtney 'i'm in need of love' Terry Callier 'what color is love' James Brown 'the payback' Roy Ayers 'he's coming' cheers Sutty
  15. my take has always been that rare soul = rare original press soul records, with limited availability and often expensive because of that (if they're any good). northern soul is a scene, anything played on it is northern soul, whether it's a actually a soul record or not, and it is not all rare. I have always firmly believed that northern soul is a scene not a style of music. cheers Sutty
  16. and he does it again - £111 for a reissue Stan Ivory 12", £25-30 all day long, even the original 7 is less than that price. Some of these buyers are bonkers lol
  17. eBay, Gemm, Discogs, Musicstack are obviously portals into sellers. They all operate generally using PayPal and your protection is with PayPal not the portal. There will always be unscrupulous sellers because they exist in life. Discogs certainly respond quickly to anyone contacting them about these people and suspend and close accounts, none of these portals want those types of sellers, and they don't profit from them, they get headaches like the buyer. I don't know how the other portals have ever responded. Blaming the portal is like blaming soul source moderators because someone has posted something up you don't like. cheers Sutty
  18. Dave - Discogs accepts catalogue uploads, have tried asking them for advice/assistance? There are many dealers that upload their catalogues on a daily basis. Gemms decline is obvious to me and I've said it many times. You want to buy a record? You go to google. First page hits are all Discogs, Gemm is on page 5 if you're lucky. I had stuff in Gemm for years that didn't sell dropping prices along the way. Put it on Discogs, sold almost all of it at more that it was on Gemm for, cos nobody could find it! Gemm payment system was terrible, you pay Gemm then sellers have to wait for the cheque to turn up ages later. Musicstack is lagging too, the search/view facility is painful, Discogs is definitely winning the online battle and is only going to get bigger IMO, as the fees are less than eBay and mainly because of those google results cheers Sutty
  19. The 12 is not much more than a fiver, and the 7 is nowhere near a fanciful £200, you can see from previous sales it's nearer £10 https://www.discogs.com/Alma-Faye-Dont-Fall-In-Love/release/2900501 cheers Sutty
  20. I can't remember where/who I got the info from a long time back but I was led to believe he died young of AIDS in New York at the very end of the 80's, start of the 90's, so 1990 would add up. What an immense and unique vocalist.

wtf its an out and out rock record, sounds like a copy of 'Layla'
  22. agreed, but there are 2 questions aren't there? (1) why does the Rouser release share the Fairmount release number? the Rouser press used previously but unused at the time Fairmount metal plates. It cuts a lot of time and cost out of a small pressing run to not have to recut and redo metal masters. I owned the rights to a release and owned the tapes and the master plates. someone licensed it for Spain, I sent the metals, as in addition to savings, you know the cut is what you want, then they pressed and put new labels on. Pretty standard at the time, duplicating masters was also relatively economic, it's the cut and production of the 1st master that was the bigger cost. (2) was the master used legally? don't have an answer but put forward a possible scenario that may well be wrong, cheers Sutty
  23. Well, I don't know zilch about the actual history of this record as such, but reading between the lines, it is possible that the first take made it as far as the cutting/master plate stage, and was then abandoned in favour of another non-edited take which was released on Fairmount. The rejected Fairmount plate then sat 'somewhere' unused, possibly someone took it away with them. This then found it's way to someone else, who didn't have any rights or tapes, and used that master to press up his Rouser 45's and changed the label and some details, put his own name on to pass it off as his release, but couldn't change the catalogue number as it was embedded in the metal master. cheers Sutty
  24. You opened a paypal dispute straight away, without contacting the seller direct? That's actually a pretty harsh move if it's the first move, you should give the seller a chance to respond before starting that process. It seems both sides are agreed on the refund. If the seller has agreed to pay your return post, be polite and make the request for everything you've paid to be refunded once he gets the record back and the seller to send you the postage costs you've just spent returning. If you open or escalate a paypal dispute you are likely to lose the faith of the seller and he has no obligation in any way to refund you the return post. People are quick to jump on sellers sometimes, we're all human and we all make mistakes. I've found generally, where there is an issue with something i've bought and is not as described, the seller is very apologetic and it's all been amicably resolved. I've on very rare occasions sold something that doesn't come up to what was described, maybe I missed a mark in the light when I graded, I refund, including return post, and apologise. If i get a buyer who just wants to return the record and it's what I sold them exactly, then I accept the return and fully refund, but I will not pay return post, as i've not done anything wrong. If it's getting close to 45 days after payment and you've not had your refund, that's the time to open a paypal dispute to protect yourself. And - send the return record signed for, even if you end up out of pocket on the return post, it at least secures your actual refund. cheers Sutty
  25. a good mate of mine bought a UK Jackie Lee issue on Pye after a going down the local boot fair straight off the train from an allnighter. Then promptly arrived round mine and slung it on the deck, "never seen one of his on Pye!" he proclaims enthusiastically, then looked very confused. It didn't sound much like what we thought it should, bit high pitched, so we tried it on 33. Nope, no good, I took it off and turned it over to check the other side. Jackie Lee - Rupert The Bear theme tune... and if the guilty party reads this, give us a bell m8 cheers Sutty
