I bought a copy of John Bowie off Butch (a well-known and very good UK 60's DJ Smitty btw) a few years back now and he told me about how he got a couple of copies from John's brother in the bronx, and it was one of the copies. Memory is hazy but i'm sure if anyone can get the story out of him it's worth telling in relation to this thread, he may even be able to help with getting in contact. Nice to hear from someone who was there Smitty, good luck. cheers Paul

'Brown Baby' off 'touch me in the morning' album
  4. part 1 is the first 2 mins. part 2 is the last 2 mins. the entire middle of the recording is missing.
  5. yes, can't locate my copy at the mo' but the other track written by Lonnie is great as well.
  6. the guy you are talking about is a friend of mine and i saw the records he had for sale before they were listed. he didn't have any record in quantity, what he had of hayes he sold (2 or 3 copies, only remember seeing 2) that was it. most were single copies, and they were all unplayed stock. so don't panic if anyone thinks they bought one and another 50 are about to turn up, they're not. cheers Paul
  7. get the album Mike, the 45 is only about 2 mins long.
  8. hi tobias - you have mail! cheers paul

the wheel closed in 1971, some of those records were not made then (?) (Millie Jackson, Terry Callier, Greg Perry). As Pete says, they are available legally on cd's that are not expensive or hard to find. There is also a site that sells mp3 downloads, I assume it is legal but offhand can't remember the name of the site, maybe someone can help there? cheers Paul

i know, i mainly sell those big records and I got stung a few times when they changed the postage rates. a single lp went down but as soon as you get a few the price rockets up, especially outside the UK. stick to yer 45's fella it's a lot easier!

7's yes, 12"/albums definitely no, the cost goes up for each one Pete.
  13. they are all on schema, italian only Jock. i've got a mint copy of the 12" available as well AFTER somebody has bought Dereks of course!
  14. blimey this is an old thread! 'if i lose my woman' MAW mix is the real killer, still sounds great. hard to believe it was 1998. https://www.discogs.com/release/66445 and buy this off Derek /index.php?showtopic=63165 both are umpteen times better than michael proctor, well slightly better anyway IMHO
  15. I agree Pete, die hard NS fans are not laymen though. Soul II soul created a uniquely British soul sound that became massive in the UK and was exported worldwide, which is rare. JB didn't create this alone but he was the figure elevated in the promotion of it and seen as the 'leader', if anyone was going to get any awards for the music it was always going to be him. 'fairplay', 'keep on movin' and 'back to life' were classic UK soul sounds, they were innovators not followers along with other people at that time (nellie hooper, simon law, etc). Whether anyone here personally sees them as that coming from the NS perspective is irrelevant IMHO, they did it. That's why he got the award, and he deserves it IMHO.
  16. I think you'll find that the layman finds northern soul to be dismal pap (if they've even heard it), and soul 2 soul to be the people that had a worldwide hit with 'back to life' and other tracks. JB did an awful lot to promote and increase awareness of UK soul, you can't judge him on a 2 min documentary comment on NS, which if I remember was slated as being a pretty awful documentary all round. In fact the whole series was dubious. This 'debate' is laughable, JB has done more than anyone on this forum to promote soul music around the world, it's just not the small period of soul music most people on here seem attached to. For the record, I like NS and JB! cheers Paul
  17. isn't the first one the cd and the 2nd the lp?
  18. they can be played ok but i have a couple (both marvin - whats going on and let's get it on) and they are quiter pressings but if they are clean copies they sound better... AND they are different mixes to the regular releases - from the original tapes, there are parts of WGO that fade out instead of just cutting into the next track. I'd buy them straight away if they are good titles.
  19. the UK is top left Dave, just to the right of Ireland, which is also in Europe
  20. oh dear i am sorry for recommending an lp you might like, sorry it's not in the preferred format! it's a pretty old reissue if it is one seeing as its pressed on UK Fontana heavyweight vinyl, what is the original UK sleeve like as i've never seen it cheers Sutty
  21. you probably want the 7" but the lp with the ray bryant trio features an amazing version of somewhere over the rainbow, believe it or not!
  22. Sutty replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
it was easily available at the time everywhere but as with most boots there was just one press so it's just waiting for one to turn up for a fiver or so i guess. the version on the greatest hits cd is better than the alternate version and is the one that got played at the time, the song had been totally hammered by the time the boot came out.
  23. Sutty replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
definitely a boot 12", there's a whole series of them. There are 2 versions, one was released on a greatest hits collection as an extra track. the next version had whistling on it and was released on the let's get it on extended double cd and is called the alternative version. this alternative version is the one on the bootleg 12" along with other tracks from the lgio cd set. All the 12" versions are unreleased versions/tracks. Funk Inc do a fine version too, the Donald Byrd original is not saying much though. cheers Sutty
  24. here it is, can never get this refosoul thing to work enjoy.
  25. i think the geezer that won the patch better be watching his back, the person he was bidding against also buys patches, and has also bought an army issue parka and a book on terrorism. this patch shit is getting a bit heavy nowadays, wouldn't be surprised if someone gets popped soon over this...
