  1. In answer to the question, depends if you are talking about a 'modern' scene playing 'modern soul' that is populated with ex-northern punters (so quite small), people who are more likely to be from the 'soul weekender' scene (bigger), or all the rest of the events that are off each others radars that happen all over the country (tons of them). Or the 4th group of all the rest. Soul music isn't exclusive to people who know and like/liked northern or go on internet forums or attend events advertised on them, i'm assuming the questioner is surely asking about the 1st option on here? a large number of people I know into the modern side of things have no interest at all in northern, and many actively avoid 60's music altogether as they din't like it and never did. These are people from mid-30's to mid 50's, and they're still going out and they do know their onions. Just not their tomangoes. regards Mr Logic
  2. wasn't going to say anything but that is the post of the day lol
  3. Only sleeve where the artist is willingly photographed as if to appear to have only one leg?
  4. I understand that you are supposed to pay the VAT on items over £15 frm outside the EU. what gets me is that the post office charge £8 for collecting the fee when there appears to be no way to legitimately pay the fee upfront, so it's a license for the po to print money for doing naff all. I usually go into the change jar and pay in 1p, 2p and 5p as much as possible and then as many coins as poss. They have never even counted it and just take what I give them so I guess you could pay a bit less without them realising. There's no point complaining to the people at the sorting office, just doing their job, but unless I've missed something and you can pay the VAT upfront, there must be a case for stopping the excessive po charges? Cheers Sutty
  5. get the album, it's great! 'Hello God, this is Rance...'
  6. i've got one on discogs now for £59.99 https://www.discogs.com/buy/Vinyl/Chocolate-Syrup-All-I-Ever-Do-Is-Dream-About-You-Youre-Off-An-Runnin/56854087?ev=bp_titl plays mint cheers Sutty
  7. the RSD limited issue was a limited issue, they're all numbered on a dark label. where has a promise been broken? 500 limited copies for RSD was what they said wasn't it? that's what it is. the repress is on the standard expansion label. are people more concerned about the potential resale value of the RSD version going down? it won't, its still the limited edition for the collectors and in the eyes of vinyl buyers the most desirable format. i'd like someone to reissue the 1st Michael Kiwanaku 10" please as that's now £100+ on private sales, meaning private purchasers are making vastly more money than the artist, as in the case of Gregorys' RSD record! same for the tubby hayes 7. I didn't get one on RSD as the queues were mental to get in the shops that hardly enyone normally goes in, it was on Juno for under a tenner within 2 days and on other sites too cheers Sutty
  8. Hi RIchard - sent the money but half asleep and couldn't add up- so you have £52.20 followed by £5 payment = 57.20 total address is Paul Sutton 14A Cromwell Road Hove East Sussex BN3 3EA
  9. me too, i think you missed the point I was making there
  10. That is the record day edition ?! Hope they sell a million of the issue to people who like to buy new releases on vinyl, thus encouraging future releases on the label and so the artist gets some royalties in. As for anyone moaning, maybe you just need to lock yourself in the bathroom and have a good stare at the label then drop yer trousers for a right good w... ;)

Sounds of the universe has gone drastically downhill as have all the shops in the Soho area if you're after anything other than new releases or reissues. i'd be more inclined to try your luck in the Record and Tape Exchange near Notting Hill tube where there's a specialist shop with Soul, Jazz, Hip-Hop, latin etc. or maybe Flashback in Islington? cheers Sutty
  12. Someone just over-charged me at £3.50 sent 2nd class UK for a 45, actual cost on the mailer £1.10 I knew i'd get nowhere questioning his high shipping cost, but the record was much cheaper than it always goes for, I gave him positive feedback as the record was graded very well indeed, but 1 star in feedback for shipping rate. I'm led to believe that the star rating affects sellers over time more than the actual feedback + or - and comments? cheers Sutty
  13. Now THIS is eBay insanity, someone posted on soulstrut earlier, read the description! https://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&hash=item5649f693ea&item=370608083946&nma=true&pt=UK_Records&rt=nc&si=aw1cmgWPKvV2%2FBzKfseiJXY5PqQ%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc#ht_500wt_922 And some idiot paid £370 for it!
  14. yup, your PM's don't work, I sent you a message on EMS or drop me a PM here m8 cheers Sutty
  15. He's been on Gemm for years. He hasn't got any stock, he cribs other peoples listings (and descriptions) and puts stupid prices up. If he sells anything, he buys it cheaoer elsewhere and moves on or says it's sold. Complete dickhead. There's a few on Gemm and one or two turned up on Discogs now. One in London appears to have almost every desirable soul record on Discogs and is always totally over-priced (and ripped off a friend of mine), called something like soulfunkjazz or similar. cheers Sutty
  16. a lot of mastertapes are pitched up a quartertone at the cutting stage to tighten up the bass I was told years ago in a cutting room by George Peckham (legendary Porky's Prime Cuts man), so they're not at the right speed anyway to start with. This argument is over anyway, it was in about 1974 lol
  17. I think Zaf's got my old 45 not the 12 for sale. We had an interesting discussion about this. He had the 12 and I sold him the 7, and he expected it to be the intro thats on the soul brother comp, not the 'drumming' intro. Turns out Malaco gave Soul Brother the wrong master and the one on their comp has a different intro to the released one. The released 7 and 12's are both the same version but the 12 is longer. SB didn't realise this til Zaf contacted them. cheers Sutty
  18. Eddie - snap!
  19. it is an original release and its been played out all over the place and should continue to be as it's one of the best new finds in the vaults in the last 10 years. anyone complaining, tell them to get over themselves lol cheers Sutty
  20. I thought people bought it for the other side "love that stranger"? I always thought the A-side is a bit, well, crap! lol
  21. the Moment's 45's are worth the price alone musically speaking
  22. Yes I am Jock the links in my footer here, glad u like lp Scott, pleasure m8 ;) I've got a copy of 'woman' on 45 if anyone's is after it btw, but alas no lp for sale right now Cheers Sutty
  23. Not heard his other one but 'cloud of sunshine' is the killer on this lp See the lp for £15/20 out and about, 45 anywhere from 10 to 30, Cheers Sutty
  24. I thought the Prestatyn weekender numbers went up as it aged rather then down?
  25. i've had the same full expedit for over 10 years, no problems at all with it, no bending of the shelves, had loads of use and abuse, whoever told you that is wrong, they're fine for albums. i use i cube S300-type shelves for 45's stacked on top of each other, again not problems with them. I did find a cheaper place on ebay i think it was when i got mine, they send them plain so you can paint/spray/varnish/whatever, think they were around £16 each at the time. all i have to do is actually paint/spray/varnish/whatever when i get round to it... cheers Sutty
