  1. I'm not sure what the point of this thread is full stop. Firstly, the UK did not 'invent the gene of soul', its well documented that the term was used in gospel way back, and that Ray Charles is credited with first using the term to describe the mix of gospel and rythym and blues. Your point on the track I posted not being soul music made in the last year is because the cd has the word 'blues' in the title, not 'soul'. This is irrelevant, it's what it sounds like that makes it soul. There are many examples of blues artists recording soul tracks. As another example on 'is soul music dead', listen to Anthony Hamilton 'Change the world', which is another fine example of soul music. Soul music never stopped being made, to the mainstream listener it went UNDERGROUND to some extent. It's not dead because it's not in the charts or being played on mainstream radio. Oh, hang on, didn't just about every song discussed on this forum suffer the same fate. Anyway, I do respect your opinions boba, I just think you have missed the point on this one cheers Sutty
  2. Last time I recall listening to music, SOUL music was a sound, not what someone decided to print on a page. By those standards, MIck Hucknall is a soul artist LOL Did you actually listen to it?
  3. so wtf is this then? https://www.amazon.co.uk/What-Am-I-Gonna-Do/dp/B00860E6OW LOL
  4. Hi Tony, how are you! blimey! long time indeed m8 thanks for the info I see it around, will pick a copy up cheers Sutty
  5. Top track - is the version on the capitol soul special the extended version from the LP, or the 45 edit? cheers Sutty

  7. no probs, no strings though Pete on the trojan 7, 12 or nutrament 45? i've had all3 at one point, kept the nutrament as its a good one to surprise people with lol - strange release to promote the product!
  8. In case you don't know, 'is it because i'm black' by the messengers on a UK 45 release (to promote nutrament) is the ken boothe track, exactly the same as the trojan 7 and 12, and it's about £5-10 usually. There's 3 on musicstack now without looking anywhere else cheers Sutty
  9. Yup, all inmates, recorded in a prison, live. I hunted for it for years, nobody had heard of it, found it, played it and though 'bollocks, why did I bother!' and got rid lol
  10. In case you've not heard the full LP and are tempted to spend £££ on it, edge of daybreak is not actually very good at all. It's a one tracker and the production and sound quality is not good. Just in case... cheers Sutty
  11. Not sure if this has been mentioned but only on 45 in Brasil I believe Cheers Sutty
  12. 1st album version 2nd album version and 45 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eu-uTU3LX5M&sns=em
  13. Despite refusing to believe it at first, 'hold on' is a great Wild Cherry track - both on their lp that contains 'play that funky music' and the later re-recording on 45 (slightly veering off there...). and both versions will cost you the total of about a fiver between them i'd expect! cheers Sutty
  14. I've used stanton and ortofon on technics and recently switched to audio techica, this is the 'entry point' cartridge and is a vast improvement on the others IMO https://www.juno.co.uk/products/audio-technica-at95e-cartridge-stylus/336007-01/?utm_source=google_uk&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=Google%2BShopping don't rate ortofon at all cheers Sutty
  15. young disciples 'road to freedom'. unique, inspirational, song-based, passionate, intelligent. and made in the UK.
  16. and it turns into another 'best before 70' or 'best before it all went disco' debate. Only quoting rock acts as doing anything in the last 30 years shows how little soul music people have listened to. I agree this shouldn't be a 'northern' vs 'modern' debate or whatever, as they're only words that describe scenes, but really, if you haven't bothered searching for music made after 1970-whatever then how can you really make a statement that nobody makes soul music anymore. appears people dig enough for old music and just don't even look beyond the surface of any of the later stuff, you've got to be in it to win it. IMHO cheers Sutty
  17. that's got to be shill or fake bidding, it wasn't that long ago it was a £10 record when mint and I bet it still is with a little patience
  18. 60's/70's soul isn't timeless, it sounds like it was of it's time and has stood the test of time. It's pretty clear generally when it was made. cheers Sutty
  19. It basically does what you're doing automatically and mails everyone with the want within 24 hours of you listing the record. I sell a lot of stuff this way, when listing look at the number of people wanting and the more people, more chance you'll sell it straight away. Anyone with wants, they view the items they want in a list and you're sale is in there if they missed the mail. change the price of the item, they get mailed again as a new sale in their wants. cheers Sutty
  20. its a lot easier to just put the record on discogs at the price you want for it, then if someone wants it they get mailed daily with all their new wants, so they click on buy and the deal is done. The system does it all for you, why bother mailing people, you're making work for yourself. It takes less than a minute to list a record. cheers Sutty
  21. It's a 1981 release, fairly average IMO to be honest, much better releases from that time in a similar style such as Al Campbell or Junior English for instance (lots of releases from both mainly on 12 and LP) Cheers Sutty
  22. used to run a night many years back where the entire floor was cobbled apart from a single paving slab in the middle. that was a real quality do I can tell you as it was also freezing cold. yet people came! cheers Sutty
  23. I only found out very recently that when you hand the package over the counter you're paying the Post Office. They are responsible for the tracking, but they hand the package to the Royal Mail who are then responsible for delivering it and obtaining a signature. If they don't and something goes missing, it then takes 3-5 days before the Royal Mail signature goes through the system back to the Post Office. So when you call the number for your lost package, they don't know anything about it for almost a week, and when they do, they have no contact with the Royal Mail. I had 4 packages go missing at once and one was signed for. It was signed for, but not by me. Post Office didn't want to know, Royal Mail sorting office didn't want to know. In the end my own postie searched the sorting office and found my packages and brought them round when he finished his shift. Turns out the temp postie had got someone to sign for my package and handed them their correct one, then dumped all my packages in a corner of the sorting office unfiled. Apart from that stroke of luck i'd probably never have seen them. System is a shambles. cheers Sutty
  24. Simple. It's your postman at fault. If it's a signed for package, they should get a signature or leave a card. That's it. Catch your postman and ask him to do that or complain. cheers Sutty
  25. I just bought the book and downloads on ebay for £15 (bargain!). The sound quality is superb, 320k MP3's, not a hint of background noise so they're either exceptionally well mastered or from master tapes. I fail to see what the fuss is about releasing most of this music with northern fans, the vast majority is straight up funk or sweet sounds. I don't recognise a single credit in the book as being anyone associated with the northern scene, it's not sourced or aimed at the northern scene? cheers Sutty
