  1. I hear nightingales all the time Philippe, but had to travel to the Jubrique area of the Serrania de Ronda to hear the cookoo. Saw a Bonelli's eagle from a few yards away take off from a cork bark oak, sadly my camera was in my pocket. Only saw one golden oriole all last year.
  2. Does the grasshopper warbler make it to the UK Martyn? Saw one Wednesday, Sardinian Warblers are common as muck here, though I've yet to photograph them
  3. Heard my first one on Thursday in southern Spain, so maybe they're a bit slow this year, meantime it's raining again, so much for the Costa del sol!
  4. Santorini, not exactly what I hoped it would be Heraklion harbour, Crete, a different year of island hopping Me in the sea at Rethymno, Crete
  5. Drosophyllum lusitanicum, the only insectivorous plant native to Spain, not the best photo as I was conscious of the fact that I was trespassing at the time, and as all that know me I do like to adhere to the rules, regulations and laws of everywhere, especially when they carry guns Serapia lingua, the tongue orchid, supposedly the commonest of the tongue orchids, but the first I've ever encountered Dactylorhiza romana, the Roman orchid in it's pale yellow form, another that eluded me until yesterday
  6. Came face to face with this chap while taking photos of plants, an amiable little chap, though his parents weren't that friendly I think this is a Green Hairstreak, not exactly in the best of conditions And this beauty is a Southern Festoon that stayed still long enough for me to snap
  7. White helleborines in the pine forest on the slopes of La Concha above Marbella yesterday. The view down to Marbella from Sierra Blanca A nicely placed sculpture of a mouflon
  8. Good luck Steve, the weather here in the last week or so has been appalling, hope to get into the countryside next week to go orchid spotting. Can't get close enough to the wildlife here, they are all so wary as the Spanish shoot everything that moves. Hope to post a few more shots soon, wind and rain permitting. Dave
  9. Echium fastuosum, a real magnet for bees Erythrina crista-galli, a rare sight for most
  10. White freesias growing on a bank of earth by the main coastal road, all finished for the year now. Wisteria sinensis flowering profusely and beautifully scented, again finished for the year.
  11. I'm currently wearing a Jaeger LeCoultre Master Quartz as I had my Bulgari one stolen from the studio. Usually wear a Timex water resistant automatic that I bought at a car boot still in it box for £2 or a gold Waltham International from the early 1950's. I have a Russian chronograph watch too and a few others tucked away in drawers that haven't seen the light of day for years.
  12. I haven't, and I even managed to spend a couple of hours stretched out on the sand by the sea today.
  13. Saw two collared doves making whoopee earlier today, so spring must be just around the corner
  14. Dodgy and nasty, that's not the artists, just my impression
  15. Hard luck Elaine, better luck next time X
  16. What medication are you on Steve? I want some
  17. My first foray into the mountains above Marbella yesterday plant hunting, a bit early, but a couple of pleasant surprises. The first orchids are just out, this is the Sawfly orchid, Ophrys tenthredinifera. This is the sombre bee orchid, Ophrys fusca. This is the almond tree, in full bloom and beautifully scented, Prunus dulcis. Finally, it's the only plant that I know of that has a tenuous link to Northern Soul, Wigandia urens.
  18. You have to live in Minnesota to understand shit weather Jim, had 44 inches of snow one night when I lived there in the 90's, -50 windchill was a norm
  19. That's alright Jim, it has it's bonuses living here, no snow, decent summers, not much rain
  20. I live in Southern Spain Jim, no British TV
  21. It's in the bag!!!
  22. I hope someone posts it on Youtube soon after she wins so I can see it
  23. Patrice Holloway - Stolen Hours Linda Jones - Just Can't Live My Life But probably most of all Rita and the Tiaras - Gone With The Wind Is My Love, only because she sang a cappella to a handful of us fortunate to be in the studio when she was being interviewed at Prestatyn, and Kev Moore managed to get her to sign a record sleeve for me, yippee!
  24. Aloe ferox near La Cala this lunchtime Buddleia officinalis in full flower taken this early evening
  25. Had a whizz through Martyn, nice job, a few cracking tracks amongst them, and something for everyone probably. Dave
