  1. You actually water them in the middle of their foliage as they grow in trees and rely on rainwater falling there in the tropics.
  2. It's actually a Bromeliad, not a cactus, but still nice to see in flower.
  3. The harbour at Rethymno, Crete. This was hanging between two palm trees in Rethymno, I do like freaky stuff.
  4. The cactus flowers that open at night are more heavily scented than the day flowering ones, some of them are quite heady in fact. This one is heavily scented This one isn't
  5. That's the view of a building I don't mind, can't cope looking down from the top. Also, why do I have the desire to shout "Jump"?
  6. Doesn't work for me then, I hate shopping, I'm with Oscar Wilde on his thoughts about fashion (“Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.” ), and I doubt if anyone on the planet has similar interests to me. Leave me alone in a corner with a ball of string and I'm content for hours.
  7. I'm hoping to have it tattooed by September But what does it mean? It makes no sense to me, unless it's dubious?
  8. Metrosexual, is that someone who has sex on the underground? When did a strong black coffee become an Americano? Living in Spain the continental kissing bit is very confusing, is it 2 or 3, left side or right side first, thank heavens my beard and smelling strongly of garlic and/or alcohol stops any of them getting too close. Recently seen a Mint+ graded record, can't quite get my head around that one, which is also a bugbear, as the users of the get my head round it line are usually ones that I'd like to kosh and thereby show them how possible it is to get your head around something.
  9. I am constantly amazed by the dogs that can be found in rescue kennels, my Happy was going to be drowned as he was unwanted, he's one of the sweetest natured dogs I've ever known. There's always lots of decent cameras on eBay cheap, just find a model you like and watch to see how much on average they make, it's quite easy to get a bargain after a couple of weeks of watching.
  10. I was taking photos with a very old Sony cyber-shot until earlier this year when it finally succumbed to the way I was badly treating it, I'd had it for 12 years, and was used to how the menu works, so I look around for a more up to date Sony one second hand on eBay, I bought 2, one for £30, and one for £10.01, one had a charger and cable for connecting to a USB, both were minus memory cards, however they are both excellent at taking macro shots, or at least good enough for me with 12.1 mega pixels. You can easily pay £1000 for a very good camera, but you can get a good camera for £499, and if you want one to go through hell and back as I do when climbing in the mountains buy a cheap second hand. There are also Facebook groups that sell stuff in Spain, and it's often a good source of cameras, though you have to be quick. ps I think Clyde is a smasher too
  11. Thanks Dave, did try to book for Benidorm but they said they wouldn't cater for a vegan, so after looking for self catering for a week I gave up. I'll see if I can get someone to dog sit for the night for Torremolinos. Dave
  12. There were two there last night, the father was encouraging the last two to take flight, but the smallest and youngest wasn't ready, obviously the other who was darting along the parapet flapping madly has taken to the skies.
  13. Orchis coriophora subsp. fragrans, the vanilla scented subspecies of the bug orchid. A much nicer flower to smell.
  14. This is the bug orchid, Orchis coriophora, supposedly it smells of bedbugs, though how they know is beyond me, it has a subspecies that smells of vanilla.
  15. Colocasia esculenta spathe, the plant, known as taro, or eddoe depending on where you are, has edible corms, though anyone that has been unfortunate enough to have been served it on any of the tropical islands will know that edible doesn't necessarily mean that it tastes good, it's like the Sounds Four song on Saintmo.
  16. Nice one Suz, I've only ever seen the yellow one, it seems your area is full of surprises.
  17. Another Benalmadena landmark, the windmill roundabout.
  18. If anyone has ever been to the Costa del Sol they'd know the roundabouts are pretty special, this is one of my favourites, at Benalmadena.
  19. Thanks Steve, I pretty much guessed Martyn would fill in the gaps with the dragonflies, they were in the cactus garden in Paloma Park, Benalmadena, one of my favourite haunts. Dave
  20. The best ever display I've seen from a Jacaranda, not far from the Arroyo de la Miel, Benalmadena station.
  21. I know the first one was perched on an aloe species flower stalk, and the other is on an agave leaf, but don't know what species of dragonfly they are, I just thank them for being obliging enough to stay still.
  22. Supposedly better tomorrow though Peter, so they should get a day of good food again
  23. Which looks like now Peter, cold and damp at the moment, and here's me with 74F and wall to wall sunshine.
