Something about a bushel I heard Bob but I'm not sure we should be talking about a ladys bushel
-
Another that did the same job for me......Kev Murph from his Grumpy set...not just a big hitter DJ... but I already knew that Something extra Grumpy brings is the opportunity to throw these gems in
-
One of my Grumpy memories that dragged me to the floor, slipped in with aplomb amongst a selection of the unobtainable and fitted so well....class is class, puts things in context nicely

Please PM if you have one waiting for me

All part of the adventure - in years to come legend will tell of the fact that Grumpy Soul was a magical venue veiled in an invisible aura which only revealed itself to those who were meant to find it

I was about to wax lyrical about last night's instalment at the Ukrainian when I received this message from my good friend Steve Smith and I thought it summed things up beautifully: Nearly every time I go the Ukraine club I come away thinking how good was that and how can they better it next time because it was so good then the following month just ups the level. Last night was one of those times, I really don't think that I heard a bad tune from 7.10pm when I got there until the very last record. Thanks Ste

I like this thread because it's a question I often ask people on the scene when we're first introduced - I've learned that every single one of them has their own unique and entertaining story to tell.....and a common theme is that Northern Soul (or whatever badge you want to pin on it) is all about the experiences, friendships, taste and likes (or dislikes) you have as an individual, which ultimately is all that matters isn't it? For me the introduction to what we would recognize as 'Northern' began at the local youth club in the late 70s but I didn't go to anything other than that until a good friend dragged me to Maximes in Wigan around 1985...then Morecambe and the odd soul night, but I'd say I didn't really get 'into' the scene proper until the early/mid 90s at venues like Tonys in Blackburn, Winsford, Bretby, The Griffin in Leeds and the 100 Club amongst others... All that said (and I've boringly told this story many times) I think the moment I was destined to fall in love with this wonderful music was when I pulled out a big record from my mums collection in a shiny silver cover and dropped the needle on it only to hear the Temptations blast out Get Ready from the speakers, I was 11 years old......it still does the same thing to me today

Simply can't wait - I'm well overdue a Grumpy injection...all references to a great lineup simply unnecessary and truly fantastic to see Mr Harkins tempted down from across the northern boarder.......NOT TO BE MISSED

MVP'S Morecambe Vinyl Players, Trimpell Sports & Social
Eddiefoster reviewed Nigeljag's event in Soul Nights
I have to say we had a great night at the MVP's - myself and the other reprobates from Stockport included...once we'd battled through the roadworks on the M6 North of Preston we pretty much arrived in a timely fashion to hear Jamies' opening set. This was the 2nd time I've been asked to guest by the guys and enjoyed the whole night thoroughly - both musically and socially! If you're in the area, love a great mix of rare soul and haven't been yet it's well worth a visit Thanks again guys -
Lookings forwards to another installment at the Ukrainian and a first time for my old pal Kev Murphy behind the decks.......well known for his superb collection of big hitters he also has a wealth of cracking lesser played tunes in the magic playbox which will surprise some! One track that I've always loved and hit me smack between the eyes when he DJ'd as a Grumpy Soul guest is this cracker... It's always great to share a bit of obtainable class and this will be a rare opportunity for Kev to dig around and cut loose

I'm sure Mrs Penn understands that any new purchase was a tenner anyway just like Mrs Ingham Chris

Rian Rae told me that he played the Vibrations Cause You're Mine and Love In Them There Hills off the Direction LP at the Wheel

What can I say! - never a disappointing night at Ashton and always a pleasure to be invited to DJ by the Legend that is Chris Churm or just to be in attendance (less pressure LOL) Great people, great music, delivers what it says on the tin .. As always nice to see the ebb and flow of attendees...there seems to be a host new faces every time - fantastic Job done...if you haven't tried it out yet it's one for the bucket list

I'm so predictable but Dave McGarty insists on it

THE MORECAMBE OLDIES REVIVAL *CANCELLED*
Eddiefoster commented on Eddiefoster's event in Soul Nights
Stop press! Sadly due to technical issues with the lift at the Alhambra we have had to cancel our event on the 9th Dec! Please keep an eye out on the events thread here on Soul Source for full details of our next Morecambe reunion and early bird tickets in 2024. Shaun and all the team at Soul Promotions -
Like I said it's always personal and it's only your own taste that counts (and I'm always wrong ) BTW I really like 'love Your Love Is Fading' and 'Your Love Won't Let Me Be' by Lou so it's not about him at all just the choon - I'm trying to slowly back away from the naughty step Martyn. I wish I was qualified to comment on the Forgotten - I'm never sure if something I come across that catches my ears is a forgotten played out oldie, something the tape swappers shared, one that got a few spins somewhere but never quite made it or (now and again) a track that's largely unknown..........I would never class any record as rubbish, I've learned that it's all down to your own personal taste and that's what really matters! However, as for Forgettable I'll be honest and most probably controversial by picking a monster tune I've never liked Lou Pride – I'm Com'un Home In The Morn'un (tin hat on LOL) even though I kinda get why it's an anthem it just doesn't do it for me! Interesting thread - every day a school day for me

Eddiefoster commented on Pep's event in Allnighters
I've very much enjoyed my trips down to Whitchurch (country lanes and all) - an event that gets better every time IMO, with an appreciative, knowledgeable and growing crowd...and in a fantastic venue too! what more can you ask for?..well take a look at the headline DJs I guess It's a real pleasure to be included in the lineup once more, I anticipate lot of fun on the night so looking forwards to the September 16th instalment immensely. See you all there Simon- 8 comments
