  1. I can clear the floor with anything Bob - it's just a skill
  2. I think you're right with "it's the one you hear first" Mick - I was lucky enough to be around a little later so both versions were well known by then
  3. It's not your fault Mick don't worry
  4. The other one please - although this is my preferred version of Stubborn Heart Mick
  5. BOB BOB BOB
  6. Lurking in the playbox - you never know!!!
  7. DJ Times for Saturday night: Phil warming us all up starting at 19:30 Steve Skopek - 20:30 Stu Cheetham - 21:30 Bob Hinsley - 22:30 Chris Churm - 23:30 See you all there - be early we're expecting a packer as usual
  8. I'm definitely lining this underplayed gem up for some airtime in 2022 - Culcheth will be 1st time out Get yer dancing shoes ready
  9. You're quite right Mick - first time I heard this gem it was Mr Churm himself who dropped the needle on it!
  10. Not had chance to listen to this blasting out over a powerful system yet so Culcheth might be the place!
  11. Great plan
  12. Dear Mr Sir Bob Hinsley - any chance you could squeeze this gem in for me at the Ukrainian please???
  13. Another one lurking in the playbox and in the squad for 5th Feb - both sides in the YouTube video but gotta say Rollin' is my preferred option
  14. Maybe a spin for the 5th if the gods of dancing are with us
  15. It would be a shame to miss it - we've only managed to post about 5% of potential spins from 6 hours in 2 rooms, so there's a full 95% to go at yet! For me the idea is to give folk a taste of the sort of thing they may expect to hear on the night which I find more useful than simply advertising "Northern" or "across the board" or 60s & 70s etc. etc.
  16. Baz tells me that Culcheth is firmly back on the map this year, with the first Saturday of every month booked throughout 2022 - great news, so keep your eyes open for the event announcements and DJ line-ups here on Soul Source (or follow Bazm to get notified when he posts).
  17. A recent purchase that doesn't get much (if any) airtime - I'm hoping it might get a good reception from the Culcheth crowd if I drop the needle on it I love to gamble LOL.
  18. A recent find for Mr Cheetham - I'm guessing he may share it with us on the night!, why not?
  19. More on the edge rare soul from Stu Cheetham
  20. Just dusting down some potential plays for the Lowton Anniversary night
  21. Hey Bob -yes as it happens it was on my shortlist - and defo now buddy
  22. Fantastic to see Culcheth back on the map again after the October false start and an opportunity to celebrate the 25th Anniversay of Lowton too! Great job and big thanks to Baz Maleady - Pep & Soul Sam on the guest DJ list See you all there
  23. Thought I'd throw the want out here no matter how unlikely - gotta love a trier LOL

    ASHTON UKRAINIAN CLUB

The return of the Ashton Ukrainian continues after a few fabulous nights in 2021 and we're hoping for another great installment. If you haven't been before here's a potted history from our very own Chris Churm: The club was originally based at the Dukinfield Masonic hall, starting well in January 2017 attended by around 100 guests. Resident DJs were Brian Lester, Chris Churm and Chris Penn. The venue was great with a large dance floor and ran until May 2017 when it moved to the Ukrainian Club, a slightly smaller venue (capacity 130) perfect the type of night we were trying to run delivering a mix of lesser known, rare and under played soul; a bit of everything. The first date was June 2017 and was a great night musically. January 2020 was the 3rd anniversary with guests Phil wainwright and Alex Jones, respected collector/ DJs to entertain us with their fantastic collections and they were superb, and it was one of our best nights. Following that in Feb 2020 Les Harrison (one of our regular DJs) and Geoff Stubbs of Stockport were our guests and were excellent as usual . I must thank Les Harrison and sue who were at our first night in 2017 and have only missed the odd one when he has been booked to DJ at Culcheth and our dates unfortunately clashed . He has also helped us to sort the gremlins in the sound system on a few occasions. Sadly Brian Lester who used to play some great tracks decided to bow out from the scene and our other original DJ maestro Chris Penn moved to the north east, he will be missed ,but he has assured us he will be back to annoy us from time to time to DJ for us. . Here is a list of some of the guys and girls that have played for us and have all taken part in the spirit of our humble Ukrainian club soul evening. Carl and Maria Willingham, John Hillel, Dave Hall, Chris Penn, Brian Lester, Les Harrison, Derek Watmough, Ian Cunliffe, Dave Beech, Carol Burgess, Simon Ingham, Mick Howard, Carol-Ann McCarthy, Geoff Stubbs, Geoff Buckley, Tom Dacey, John Baggaley, Dave Flynn, Les Hare, Mark Tobin, Ged Gibbons and Phil Etchells (sorry if I missed anyone). As we all know in March 2020 (just as our guests Simon Ingham and Mick Howard were ready to DJ for us) the pandemic struck and everything stopped but the restart will pick up where we left off and Simon alongside Mick will be our first guests, hopefully we can bounce back . Post pandemic the club have informed us that for the night to continue it will have to be a Saturday night event, ironically that is what we first wanted and we think could be better for everyone so keep an eye on the soul source calendar for future instalments. We hope everyone is well and can’t wait to see you all again
