Another one to dust down for the April installment at Culcheth - New York magic (and another twofer Bob!!!)
-
2 great sides as you point out Sir Bob - but it's this one for me
-
And a nice alternate track sharing the same backing
-
Sooo looking forwards to the next installment of Culcheth now - it's been a whirlwind few months and the scene seems to be kicking back into full pace again which is great to see! Ted Massey is headlining in (as Mick Howard pointed out) part of his North of England Tour LOL - here's a sample of one of his latest sets to wet your appetites (and there are obviously plenty more where these came from ) Ravins - Your Love Is What I Want Dewey Black - Takin Love Where I Can Find It Joseph Webster - My Love Is So Strong United Sounds - It’s All Over (Baby) Sag War Fare - Don’t Be So Jive Groovettes - Think It Over Baby Bob And Fred - I’ll Be On My Way Camaro’s - We’re Not To Young Chuck Holiday - Just Can’t Trust Nobody Appointments - I Saw You There Barbara King -What I Did In The Street (Gulfstream) Salt And Pepper - A Man Of My Word Aspirations -You Left Me Pee Wee Shuck And Huey - Beside Myself Tyrone (The Wonder Boy) - Please Consider Me Imperial C’s - Someone Tell Her Empires - You’re On Top Girl Fortson & Scott - Sweet Lover Classics - One Dance Profs - Look At You Patrinell Staten - Little Love Affair Tiaras - Foolish Girl Mello Souls - We Can Make It William Powell - Heartache Souvenirs J D Bryant - I Won’t Be Coming Back See you all there

Another great night in the company of the Ukrainian faithful - we arrived early to find Ted Massey already ensconced in the bar area having a good old chinwag (gotta say respect to him for making the effort to soak up the vibe of the place before hitting the stage) - also he was heading off Peps' Whitchurch mini-nighter later, which just shows his enthusiasm and stamina TBF!! Phil kicked off proceedings as always at 19:30 - never a dull moment as he warms us up with some great selections including left field, underplayed and lesser knows tracks but always quality . Mick Howard followed for the 2nd hour and never fails to get things rocking - that man can read a floor!!! You only have to scan through his set to appreciate that! My set was split as Ted needed to get away at 23:00 - I thoroughly enjoy DJing at Ashton and last night was no exception - even with the added pressure of Ted in the mix. Teds set was off scale as you'd expect - I wish I'd kept a note of what he played but needless to say it did the business.........from The Groovettes to the Mello Souls and Sag Warfare to Joseph Webster....also he threw in this cracker out of Chicago just to show it's not all about the $$$ ....Tyrone (The Wonder Boy) is in fact Tyrone Davis. Here's a note from the man himself including the list of tracks played in his set (thanks Ted ) A big thank you to Chris Churm, Mick Howard and Simon for asking me to DJ, some brilliant tunes were played as you can see from the lists already posted. They get a very knowledgeable crowd in and the place was packed. It was good to see loads of friends including Geoff Green and Sandy, Shirley and Col Wood, Angie Heap Wills and Ian Wills, Baz Maledy, Gibby, Derek & Janet Watmough and Elaine Faherty sorry if I’ve missed anyone I’m bound to have . A lot of requests in this lot - I think they are in order but not 100% Ravins - Your love is what I want Dewey Black - Takin love where I can find it Joseph Webster - My love is so strong United Sounds - It’s all over (Baby) Sag War Fare - Don’t be so jive Groovettes - Think it over baby Bob and Fred - I’ll be on my way Camaro’s - We’re not to young Chuck Holiday - Just can’t trust nobody Appointments - I saw you there Barbara King -What I did in the street (Gulfstream) Salt and Pepper - A man of my word Aspirations -You left me Pee Wee Shuck and Huey - Beside myself Tyrone (the wonder boy) - Please consider me Imperial C’s - Someone tell her Empires - You’re on top girl Fortson & Scott - Sweet lover Classics - One dance Profs - Look at you Patrinell Staten - Little love affair Tiaras - Foolish girl Mello Souls - We can make it William Powell - Heartache souvenirs J D Bryant - I won’t be coming back Our leader (Chris Churm) finished off proceedings with his usual aplomb and I had a great night talking nonsense with anyone who'd listen - what more could you ask for
-
Anything could happen on the night! - rummaging through the playbox and this one jumped out as something that was well received at Culcheth pre-lockdown
-
You never know - Ted might treat us to a bit of this??
-
Well we're down to the one more sleep countdown again - looks like getting there early is advisable as usual......look forwards to seeing you all tomorrow night do you get the message????
-
Maybe another airing this Saturday for Mr Carlton
-
BOB - is it boring if I keep asking for the same record? - especially ones you don't have!
-
Another that might make an appearance - well received last time I played it at the Ukrainian by a great crowd of regulars (I thank you all) I've also included the flip below - another really good 'twofer'
-
There are so many absolute class records in the Massey stables it's hard to know what to ask for but this cracker from '69 would be right up there for me anytime - dance floor here I come!!! PLEASE TED, PRETTY PLEASE! Is TAD records a Chicago label? - any info would be interesting (joining the dots with the Eddie Silvers link - probably wrongly as usual LOL)
-
I believe Image Of A Man (the flip) was an Albrighton niter spin Mick?
-
Please PM if you have a copy
-
I keep meaning to get this west coast mover out of the playbox and onto the decks - maybe I'll actually make it on the 19th
-
Maybe time to dust this one down - not played it since lock down hit us and it was well received by the Culcheth faithful back then!
-
Rummaging around in the box - maybe a goer for Ashton Ukrainian on the 19th!!!!
-
Just PM if you have one lying around pls

CULCHETH, THE SPIRIT of LOWTON - TWO ROOM SOUL NIGHT
Eddiefoster commented on BazM's event in Soul Nights
Well - as they say: 'only one more sleep' (til Culcheth that is) - bring it on, looking forwards to another great night of quality soul and good company! Something to weave into the set hopefully -
An important announcement we feel: We've been asked whether the current pressures on the Ukraine will have any impact on the event at the Ukrainian Club: Chris has been in touch with the Ukrainian Club management who have said that the revenue raised by this event is important and that it should take place as planned! We believe that the club are taking charitable donations and of course anything you can give will be very much appreciated. See you all there on the 19th

CULCHETH, THE SPIRIT of LOWTON - TWO ROOM SOUL NIGHT
Eddiefoster commented on BazM's event in Soul Nights
I think the first time I heard this back in the 90s was at Lowton so a good excuse to feature it on Saturday
