  1. I will be getting a copy of this as I have had volume one for a while and was very impressed with it, as I have been with all the Kent releases right from the beginning. No one else can compare, long may they continue.
  2. RIP Billy butler one of the first records I heard forty years ago when I first started out on the scene was the right track. What a great legacy you left behind thank you.
  3. Wakefield unity allnighter August 1977, Hearing Marie knight That's no way to treat a girl for the first time and thinking to myself what an outstanding record. Still think that when I hear it at a venue even after all these years. One of the best records to be played on the scene at one of the best allnighter I have ever attended.
  4. I would have to chose between, The Salavadors stick by me badly and Gene to ones what more do you want. In my opinion they are as good as it gets as regards northern soul.
  5. I have to agree with Eddie and his statements above. Having started out on the scene in1976 and having seen many changes over the decades between then and now, the scene is bigger and better in many ways with far more choice of venues and music being played. You cannot beat today and what is happening now.
  6. I enjoy watching them especially Juds, which are very well done and more importantly he is a very nice bloke. I suppose this is to be expected with the technology that exists today. If only it existed in the 70,s then we would have more see than This England which in my opinion was rubbish I was there in March 1977 when the first lot of filming was done with the lights on most of the night. Most of the regulars of the time including my self keep out of the way. Say what you will about people filming events today at least they don,t impose themselves as much as they did then.
  7. Loved the film I could really relate to it from my early days of going to allnighters and everything that went with it. I learned a lot about life by going down that road more so than if had not done it, opened my eyes to a lot of things that is why I still enjoy doing it. Elaine is the only person that has showed how it was for many of us because she has done it herself, hence in my opinion her film beats all of the so called documentaries about the scene hands down. I wish her ever success in every thing see does.
  8. Loved to have gone, but i was too young. Having lived in Wolverhampton all my life i feel the catacombs was one of the few things of any merit to come out of this town. If someone was to invent time travel that is one of the places i would visit.
  9. Yet another cringe worthy image of the scene is on main stream television. My wife and I together with my sister attended goodyears soul night in Wolverhampton on Saturday night, which we do from time to time mainly to see Ted Massey's spot which was very good as usual. My sister has lived in Australia for over twenty years is on holiday and loves the music and attends soul nights in Perth not far from her home, was very surprised to see people wearing 1970`s style clothes at the event, something that does not happen in Australia. The question she asked was why do they do it, that is one I would like to know the answer to my self having lived through that decade myself and always considered it a decade that style forgot as been quoted many times and totally agree with. When I go back to work tomorrow I hope no one has seen it and asks, do you wear that type of clothing at the soul do`s you attend here`s hoping.
  10. I can remember sending off for my Wigan membership a good twelve months before I went to the October oldies allnighter in 1976, my first visit that will never be forgotten for many good reasons, the first of many over the next five years. I have no idea what happened to my membership card over the years during which I have moved house four times since those days wish I still had it.
  11. As ever some quality tracks on this list, this is the period when I was becoming very aware of northern soul though older lad`s at school and on my estate who were going to Wigan. The start of a very long journey which has lasted for me at least 40 years. the same could be said for a lot of us on soul source long may this continue.
  12. Best two events for me and my wife were, the 100 club in august and Blackpool weekender in November. Both of which were great and we fully intend to attend again in 2015 all being well and several other allnighters during the year all good in there own way.
  13. Just read the interview with Major lance at the stoke alldayer which followed his performance at Hinckley, which my future wife and I attended could not go to Hinckley on the Saturday night as I was at work that weekend, after which we went up to stoke to see him for his show on the evening . I remember there not being many in attendance due to Hinckley, on the plus got shake his hand at end every time I hear one of his records I always think of that. Two months later went to Hinckley to see the Ric-Tic review one of the best nights ever, thanks Pete for bringing back great memories of a great period in my life.
  14. Richard at his best, one of scenes best DJ`S without doubt. I attended the Blackpool weekender recently and went into the Saturday afternoon session in the tower ballroom to listen to Richards spot. The first time I had listened to one of his spots for many years, although he played oldies they were the sort you seldom hear anymore. The way it should be done. In my opinion the best spot of the weekend by far, just the same at wigan when he always played the best spot nothing has changed.
  15. Some faultless tunes in this selection, Jean carter, Lillie Bryant and the Salvadors are in my opinion some of the best tunes ever played on the scene. Well done pete .
  16. All ways have been always will be, it`s in my DNA.
  17. We are attending the Blackpool weekender this coming weekend, on our way back on sunday afternoon hopefully will call into Wigan to have a look around and a drink. I have not been to Wigan for over a decade, used to work in the area with my previous employer, always liked to town and its people, as well as my many visits to the casino.
  18. The attention to detail was in my opinion was spot on, as with any period drama. Well done to Elaine and her team for doing this, what ever your opinions on the film itself it is a million times better than any of the cringe worthy documentaries about the scene that have been on television over the years. Even my youngest son who is 24 and has never shown any interest in the music despite growing up with both his parents into the music, said it was great and could see why his mom and dad were into it and still go to allnighters.
  19. Impossible to argue with any of this last statement totally correct in every respect, that's without mentioning the 100 club and Cleethorpes weekenders. How anyone can mention the northern soul scene and anything to do with it without giving Ady any credit is totally beyond me
  20. I always thought the way the casino ended was handled very badly to say the least, milking the cash cow for as long as possible. Why couldn't it be left to die with the dignity it deserved. Went to the "last" oldies allnighter in September and said my goodbyes to the old place, after five years of attending mainly the oldies allnighters which I always enjoyed I left on a high which is how it should be. I still attend allnighters to this day and still enjoy going hopefully this will never change. Going to Rugby tonight, a well run allnighter unlike the casino toward the end of it`s life.
  21. The trailer looks very appealing, will buy the DVD when it comes out all credit to Elaine for having the vision to do it.
  22. For me it was Junior Walker at Wigan in may 1977, closely followed by the ric-tic review in January 1983 at Hinckley, both excellent .
  23. Glad it went well long over due. I will be in the area next month work related stuff will make an effort to see for myself.
  24. I love the whole concept of 60`s newies always have and always will.On the subject of the kent and its releases again please keep them coming the best ever. During the 1990`s when my two sons were growing up if it wasn`t for the kent LP`S AND CD`s and the occasional visit to keele allnighter I would have probably gone mad.
  25. Great to read such a positive and up beat post on here well done Matt.
