Byron Saturdays begin here!! After a lot of hard work behind the scenes we're really pleased to be able to bring you Byron's top drawer Northern Soul experience to a Saturday night. You'll be guaranteed a warm welcome from Alison and Harriet and a night of dancing and listening to just the greatest Northern sounds, all on original vinyl. We are joined by ADY POTTS, HAMMIE and PETE TAYLOR, all three of who need no introduction. Class DJs each and every one of them with boxes of records that will just blow us all away. Residents Simon Richard, Nev Shooter and Stu Teece will be keeping the tunes flowing throughout the night. 7.00 till 12 midnight and £5.00 on the door. We're just a few minutes from J27 of the M1, with a large car park. Come and join us and our many Byron regulars for a night to remember - we'd love to see you.

Heanor Sunday afternoon sessions are a great way to enjoy a few hours of sublime music, a catch up with friends and a chilled drink. Our next session is on Sunday 6th February 3 till 8pm - just £2 on the door. We're proud of our music policy, it's all original vinyl - we get DJs with superb collections of northern soul and ask them to dig a little bit deeper than usual and show us what they maybe don't play at the big venues - the little gems, the slow burners, the under-the-radar but oh so soulful sounds. This time we have Ginners spinning some tunes as well as Stu Teece from Byron Soul Club, along with our regulars, John Smith, Mark Ecka Hill and Simon Richard. Simon as usual will be choosing some real good Motown demos for you to enjoy. Why not pop down and give your ears a treat! There's a free car park, so no problems if you're driving.

Since we started our Sunday afternoon sessions in September we've had a great response from the people who have come down to enjoy a few hours of sublime music, a catch up with friends and a chilled drink. Our next session is on Sunday 2nd January so what better way to relax after the New Year celebrations. We're proud of our music policy, it's all original vinyl - we get DJs with superb collections of northern soul and ask them to dig a little bit deeper than usual and show us what they maybe don't play at the big venues - the little gems, the slow burners, the under-the-radar but oh so soulful sounds. This time we have Steve Grubb and Mick Reynolds, two awesome guys with boxes of tunes to die for, along with our regulars, John Smith, Mark Ecka Hill and Simon Richard. Simon as usual will be choosing some real good Motown demos for you to enjoy. Why not pop down and give your ears a treat! There's a free car park, so no problems if you're driving.

Sadly, with the current situation and the danger of further restrictions Route 61 has been cancelled. Steve, Dianne and Stu wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Christmas and hope to see you all next year. Dates will be announced as soon as we have them. Stay safe.

After a great night in September we're back for more! Come on down to Route 61 for some top drawer classic Northern along with some eyebrow raising lesser played tunes and a splash of the right kind of Motown - all played on original vinyl. Joining residents Steve Foster, Di France and Stu Teece is our good friend PATTO (Craig Patterson) from the Gas Club, who will be bringing some of the best tunes from his enviable collection. He's spent many years tracking down and acquiring some absolutely wonderful records and we're so looking forward to hearing him spin them. We are so chuffed to have Dianne France joining us as resident DJ. She's supported the club for many years and we know that she's bringing an extra dimension to Route. Over the years she's amassed tunes to die for, and she plays them with taste and skill. Can't wait for her spot! We hope you can make it along to our clean and well kept venue, there's plenty of parking and you'll get a real friendly welcome. Let's all get our dancing shoes on!

That's a fantastic article. Although the Cats is known (up to a point) by those of us who never went or were too young, and we know it broke and popularised some incredible tunes, it's high time it was elevated right up to the status of the other 'legendary' clubs. More memories from those who went please....and playlists... and more info on these stamped records - was that an identifier for records that were kept at the club, just like some of the records that were played at the Wheel?
-
This is not really a review - as a resident Dj here it's not for me to say. Just to say a big thank you to all the punters, many of who travelled many miles to spend the evening with us. For our first night back everything came together perfectly in terms of crowd number, music quality, sound system and the overall vibe. The next on on 12th November should hopefully be the same - a 'proper' northern soul club.
-
Starts 7.30 sharp tonight. Hope you can make it - quality northern soul original vinyl all the way till we turn the lights on...and still the dancing continues!
-
This'll be a cracker - looking forward to hearing Tom play.

Byron Northern Soul Club - as the weather gets colder the sounds get hotter! Top drawer Northern Soul, pure and simple, guaranteed from start to finish. You'll get a warm welcome and a night of dancing and listening to just the greatest Northern sounds, all on original vinyl. We are joined by our old friend FRED BENSON, from Scunthorpe who will be treating us to the very best of his awesome record collection, backed with a history that goes back to the very beginning of the scene. We're please to have MARK JOHNSON a Ram from across the border also joining us tonight - if he brings the tunes we think he's going to bring then we're all in for a treat. Residents Simon Richard, Nev Shooter and Stu Teece will keep the music flowing with nothing but quality original northern soul - eye-openers, floor-fillers and what-the-hell-was-that?'s We're just a few minutes from J27 of the M1, with a large car park. Come and join us and our many Byron regulars for a night to remember - we'd love to see you.

Ral Donner! Don’t tell my mates.

Shirebrook School disco in 1978. I’d never seen anything like it. A young, small kid called John Sankey was brilliant. Don’t know if he stayed on the scene. Me and my mates decided in a split second that were were officially into Northern Soul. We all met up the next day at my mate Dale Wilkinson’s house and practiced the moves as best we could. What times!

New short Documentary: 'Once Upon a Time in Wigan'
Soulstu replied to Paul-s's topic in All About the SOUL
Saw it with my late brother in Mansfield. It really was good. Atmospheric, accurate and the cast were superb. Good job Paul! -
Truly fantastic record. The Benn-X 45 is legit isn’t it?
-
Totally chuffed you like that one bud, it's been in my box a good few years and I love it - never heard anyone mention it before - maybe I missed out on it first time round?....

Looks a good book this. -
Antellects - Love Slave I’m sure that was one of Ginger’s?

It was Sooty, asking which 3 labels The (New) Younghearts was issued on. Can't recall the venue, but no one got it.

I noticed that.... I thought it was a bit of extra percussion that was mixed badly... surprised for an expensive ABC production.

Also if you listen to the ‘Get Ready’ break in Big Maybelle’s Quittin Time, again the bass player loses the plot and goes for a bit of a walk. It was such a good take though, they had to use it! I think I notice these as I play bass myself. Baby Boy will appreciate this... is he still on here?
