  1. Excellent! - nearly every topic I Iearn something new. Ta Byrney (good point btw).
  2. Yep - When I used to listen to sounds of the sixties regularly years ago Brian Mathew used to play some really interesting 60s beat and psychedelic stuff etc hidden between the Frankie Vaughans and Engelberts and whatnot - B-sides and all that, but the northern content has shot up in recent years. It's very interesting and pleasing to hear these 45s in conjunction with other genres of the same era - a lot of the northern sides sound so rich and strong and really jump out of the speakers compared to others.
  3. Hmmm.. I went from 79-81 and can't remember all-niters - dayers were always 2 till 10 from what I can remember (which is not much). I bet they were great though, it was a fantastic venue - a world of total soul, I had the bestest times there.
  4. Ethics - Look At Me Now/Think About Tomorrow on Vent - cheap, cheap, cheap......excellent, excellent, excellent
  5. I always wondered what the deal was with black or silver text - did one come first or was it just arbitrary? I (and probably everybody) has a mixture of both. Never seen a black and grey label before… once again I learn something new from SS.
  6. Mine arrived today Ray, next day service, well impressed. It feels nice and substantial and the shape is perfect for putting the records on and off without catching on the centres. I got fed up of my old adapter tumbling over the slip mat every time I took a record off!... not any more. Oh... and it looks sooo cool! Stu
  7. It'd be a real win win for the punters - it would give dancers at smaller venues the opportunity to get up to records they've only dreamt about dancing to (at OVO events at any rate). The DJs might worry about losing their 'USP' but they've still got to have the chops to sequence the records in such a way that it creates a magic night for the dancers. And a DJ set 'featuring an exclusive spin of…..' could draw more people in. I reckon a simple, generic contract that could be made available to all participants, requiring 2 x signatures and 1 witness should do it. It's the future, Nev!…. then again i'm a dancer, not a DJ.
  8. As per bloody usual mine is the boot! Even the wrinkles look identical!
  9. Written by Bo Derick??!!! that's a 10 from me.
  10. Aaaargh gutted. That's What You Do To Me is one of my all time favourites. Would have loved to have caught him live.
  11. RobbK will know the other pic! Over to you Robb.
  12. No rush Mike, just wondered that's all. Ta for the update.
  13. Cunnie, when you gonna collate the results??
  14. Aaargh my eyes are starting to bleed! - someone lock this thread. Surely all points have been made? Having said that, I've quite enjoyed this debate. If nothing else it proves there's passion and love for the music from all sides - that's good enough for me. The scene'll find its own way - it always does. POST No. 426!
  15. Hmmmm. might open a can of worms here but as a (crap but enthusiastic) guitarist myself I don't naturally gravitate towards northern tunes when playing. It's usually quite sophisticated and well arranged for a fuzzy strummer like me. Now an OKeh branded trumpet or set of vibes or drums - that'd be more like it!
  16. Sigh... should have read it to the bottom - brain tumour then according to his nephew. Very sad - his voice would have been well suited to the slicker and sweeter sounds that came later.
  17. Ha ha thanks Mr Nice - that's conclusive then...... a motorcycle accident...... or a brain tumour??!!!..very similar ways to go.
  18. Top tune, particularly the eye watering high notes! Try singing along to that. Didn't J McC get killed in a crash shortly after recording it?
  19. Hope - me & Mrs SoulStu have a great night at the Grange on Saturday Dream - I was going to the states with Mick! - beats Rotherham.
  20. If not b), then g) - a 50th b'day present for your old mate Stu
  21. A bit of Reggie eh, Dave? Is Hot Line your favourite record then? Or are you on a bit of a Kray/Perrin/Yates obsession!
  22. Well Dave, for me it wouldn't be bloody techno!!!!! Two things I guess - P-funk and some nice classic disco etc for dancing', dark, doomy indie (Nick Cave etc.) for listening.... I know, I'm a bit odd. However, a massive cold chill came over me even imagining life without northern and motown - I don't think the sun would be bothered to come up.
  23. After a few glasses of San Miguel and a belly full of Mexican food just plonked Deon Jackson - That's What You Do To Me on the deck - man that intro's loud!...
  24. I've been thinking about this and as a dancer, not a DJ I realise how difficult it is to choose the tracks, gauge the atmosphere etc... it's a proper skill. Anyhoo here are mine - kind of a gradual slow down..... I Don't Want To Hear It - Exits You're Gonna Wreck My Life - Guitar Ray Movin' Away - Kenny Lynch (on paper, wrong on so many levels - Tarby's golfing buddy for pete's sake - but honestly, a great record IMHO!) DJ SoulStu - coming to a venue near you no time soon!
  25. I think it's a bit hit and miss from the US. Depends on the seller and the location. Got a record last week from Florida - took about a week.
