I mean 5 or 6 entries?.... from 3000 odd members?? Couple of things: It encourages us to stop and have a real good think about the many unsung people who wrote, performed, recorded and promoted the music that we all love. There are artists and the families of artists who made very little money from the original records that are often on sale here for hundreds of pounds and more - money they'll never see. A bit of recognition wouldn't go amiss from those of us who have benefitted from what they have given us. Lorraine nailed it - a lot of these artists and their families are gobsmacked and delighted when they find out what their music means to us. Don't know about you but that makes me feel great. I reckon if you have time to respond to a post about a lost acetate, or what wacky vehicles you've driven in the past (btw that's not a dig - they're all worth reading!) then surely you have time to have a think and fill in the form. It's such a wide ranging and obscure scene that there will be a lot of 'one-offs' and maybe some debate about who gets nominated but so what - it's better than a wall of silence. Come on... fill in the form or hang your heads in shame!!!! ...or tell us why it's not worth doing?

Can you drop the bag off next time you're in the UK Baz, that meant more to me than all those crap records. It was an original 3 blue stripes 1982 issue with double strength PVC handles!
-
The Dap-Kings played the backing track of Ain't No Mountain High Enough - Marvin & Tammi. I like 'em both - but M&T is pure soul gold.

This is the Ebonystics track

Is it Funky Bud?.... bit late tho...
-
Off topic - sorry P99!.... what's happened to your Ringo pic Pete?...I had a bellyful of Molyneux when I was at college!!!!
-
KTF? more like WTF!
-
We all ought to join these groups and completely flood 'em with loads of obscure (but excellent) records - it'll drive 'em mad!... they might learn summat too.
-
I understand a seller like yourself Pete, you might end up spending most of your working day just leaving feedback to your buyers (on behalf of your clients) but those who have time ought to leave feedback - it's nice! Particularly on ss - it's more like buying from your mates. I like that.
-
As a regular buyer who always, ALWAYS leaves good feedback straight away, I get bugger all back from sellers. Maybe they're too busy?.... Not complaining about the service I get - it's always excellent, but I wouldn't mind summat back cos i always pay instantly.

Another Paypal Friends And Family Question...from A Buyer
Soulstu replied to Soulstu's topic in All About the SOUL
OK Lars, thanks for that - it's clear now! -
I didn't want to hijack Paul's topic so I've posted this similar question but from the buyer's side. Daft question this - but as a buyer (I'm relatively new to PayPal - 9 months or so) I buy plenty of records on here via PP gift. I guess all of the transactions to lots of different 'friends' will look a bit fishy. Would I expect to receive a similar warning message (see Paul's topic)? I am happy to pay a little extra for a 'regular' transaction if it keeps me out of trouble. Does this have any impact on the seller? I thought sellers specifically ask for family & friends because a regular payment might impact on them in some way? Do they have to be registered PP traders? Or are they trying to save us buyers a few quid? A bit of advice from you guys would be really helpful. Stu

Calling All Anoraks - Which Copy Has The Best Sound?
Soulstu replied to Premium Stuff's topic in Look At Your Box
Did they use that horrible fake stereo version for the UK issue (drums and backing in one speaker and horns and vocals in the other) as used on CD compilations? I agree - my pink mono Eddie boot sounds loud and 'tough' in comparison. -
Still getting hammered - I bet I've heard it played out at every single night I've gone to in the last four months! ... Still, a great record is a great record - I wish I had one - he had a good way with a tune, old Jimmy.

Calling All Anoraks - Which Copy Has The Best Sound?
Soulstu replied to Premium Stuff's topic in Look At Your Box
D'you reckon pretty much all TMGs are better pressings than both vinyl and styrene US versions? All my black labels play loud and clear. -
How many people browse, then see a mega rarity, then the heart sinks when you see that little grey star on the label. I know I do. Are these being sent out to radio stations and DJs? - if not then they aren't demos.
-
No, it'll be the Ron Grainer Orchestra - who wouldn't rip that package open (and set fire to the contents).
-
Picked this up on here for £2.50, plus the Platters Washed Ashore, Plus the Dells Wear It... all same price, all M-, all criminally cheap proper northern - tell you what, you could build up a fantastic collection just from the records mentioned on this thread.

I Need To Know This Record...it's A Good 'un
Soulstu replied to Soulstu's topic in All About the SOUL
No - I was using Comin' Home baby to describe the chorus! And it's not Sonny Moore (tho I'd like to hear that out). I recorded a bit on my phone - will try and post, but it's well distorted. -
That's the crux of it - I've not heard Voodoo Mademoiselle out yet (at the nights I go to) and surely that record would be a shoe in - a major recent discovery/release that absolutely oozes northern. I'd sprint across the car park, boot the door open and slide straight on to the floor if I heard that as I arrived. It's not the fact that it's a £10 'cheapie' as loads of not-rare records are played out where I go. I think it's some of the 'oldies' punters who just won't respond.
-
It was played out last night - probably a very well known one that somehow or another i've missed.... and it's a belter. All I can give you guys is a description: Pretty uptempo, male vocal, slight RnB flavour, horns etc (maybe a touch of harmonica in it?) but very northern. Chorus tune is a bit like the 'Every night and day, I'm gonna stay' bit in Comin' Home Baby but over the top he sings, 'my baby is gone, my baby is gone'.. I think. I didn't ask the DJ for fear of being laughed out of the venue!... you live and learn. There's a virtual pint (ePint?) in it for the person who can help me out! Stu

Baffles me sometimes how dancers behave. I get very excited when I hear a 'newie' that I'm not familiar with - if it's got that northern groove and tempo why would you sit down? I tend to get up to a lot of stuff that I'm unfamiliar with - It's all part of the buzz for me... then I'll find out what it is, tell others and look out for it next time. A lot of dancers just sit down if it's not something they've heard a million times before - surely it would have been unfamiliar to them at one point. I guess it's tough for a DJ to risk emptying the floor all the time but Christ we're always just scratching the surface. I rifle through my cheapies and there's SOOOO many that I've never heard out - it's a crime. Please keep doing what you do Ady, there's enough of us listening out for it!

Daft question chaps… Why are they see thru? - is the vinyl poorer quality, thinner, thus affecting the value?…or does it make 'em desirable? You never know with collectors! Most coloured vinyl pressings seem to be see thru.
