  1. Did they have a Northern Soul wedding reception whether they wanted one or not. Do I love you indeed I do.
  2. That's his first request from me then.
  3. Rob If Prince Timothy of Todmorden thinks it was Dave Flynn then who am I to disagree.
  4. I'm rubbish with dates but I'm pretty certain the instrumental was played by Chris King first at Lowton that night. For some reason I have it in my head that Neil Rushton had something to do with the discovery of the vocal but I'm not 100% certain.
  5. Kev that's not quite correct, I bought a record off Discogs that wasn't on his own site. I wanted to check the quality of the record on his player but it wasn't there.
  6. About this time every year, whenever the Lowton anniversary is mentioned and the hundreds of brilliant records that were played there, there's always one that stands out for me, well actually there's two. The instrumental was played by Chris King to an absolutely packed dancefloor at the Lowton New Year allnighter. A few weeks later came the vocal. It was mind blowing, like hearing The Vibrations "Cause your mine" for the very first time at the Torch.
  7. Thanks for clearing up the pie situation Rob, Ian would have been expecting a free pie barm.
  8. Of course he goes for the pies, that's the bonus of going to the Brick Community Stadium (formerly the DW Stadium.). Do you mean Maurice the butcher was at Terrys do. If so has he moved from Blackpool? I'll bet when Ginger saw Maurice he thought "Heyup Pies've cum". If they're that good it's worth just putting on a do and inviting Morris as a guest, as long as he brings his pies with him. Who's next big birthday is coming up. All the best for the New Year to you & Shirley and yes I'll see you Feb 1st.
  9. You say Baz is True Blue, that's his only downfall, he's a Wigan Athletic fan.
  10. Nicely put Mr Haigh. You're absolutely spot on mate. It's a big thumbs up from me.
  11. Yes that looks great, one for the watch list. Director Peter Berg always makes exciting films, I'm surprised that Mark Wahlberg isn't in it as per usual. The last great Wild West series I saw was Godless with Jeff Daniels so I'm really looking forward to this one.
  12. I ordered one from his Discogs site because I couldn't find the record that I wanted on his own site on Monday night, and it arrived yesterday morning. However I paid for Special Delivery so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. What really surprised me was I was messaging him questions really late at night and he was answering my messages
  13. I'm not sure who played it first but I remember both Ian and Colin getting behind it at the time
  14. For me Billy Thompson was always one of the standout quality tracks on Ian Levines Sceptre/Wand 1975 Solid Soul Sensations compilation LP and it is always well received on the dancefloor. Like you say Mick It still sounds as brilliant now as it did 50years ago at the Casino or in my case the Mecca.
  15. Or Carl could play it himself Why didn't I think of that.
  16. Mine as well mate but if my memory's correct he requested the flip side at Culcheth however both sides are brilliant.
  17. Will Simon have The Versatones (Aka Percy & Them) in his box with him just in case Carl fancies a bop to it, & maybe t'other side for me as well.
  18. Some great pictures there, I'd love to read "The Dirty Stop Outs Guide" The Amboy Dukes seemed to be a popular band. I always loved there version of "Who's Foolin Who" whenever it was played out back then. The Stevie Wonder story is funny.
  19. Lee, there's been a couple of issues sold on Discogs, the last one in 2019. I agree you see promo's more often than issues.
  20. Mick, I'd like to wish you and Karen a Happy New Year, you've quite rightly asked the Ashton Faithful to take a bow of which I'm not one yet, but I aim to become one in the new year. I'm saying to you Mr Howard that you too Sir should take a bow yourself for all the hard work you do in promoting this venue. Credit were it's due pal. I'll see you on the 18th and It'll be the first time I've seen Chalky DJ since Simon persuaded him to come out of retirement to do The Bury Town Hall Allnighter a few years ago. Most of the main hall came up to support him in the Kenwood Suite upstairs and he gave them a wonderful selection of Lifeline classics and unreleased things as well.
  21. Hi Mick One of my favourite Guillermo Del Toro films. I recently watched it again. Brilliant film
  22. We watched The Order last night. Based on a true story from the 1980's, Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult are both great in it. Well recommended.
  23. Phil If the goal is to get the single played on the BBC Radio 2, then your best bet is for the band to come out as LGBT. If that's a no, then it still has a better chance of getting played on the Beeb than the other new cover version that's just been released, this is more in tune with most of the age group on this forum. Great lyrics.
  24. Regarding The Shepards, is it just my hearing or are the lead vocals really poor on that record. It could be my hearing because I've recently decided the lead vocals of The Changing Scene "When the city sleeps" are really bad as well. I'll book myself in for a check up.
