  1. I totally agree with Mach, Tony Banks was the perfect promoter and well loved DJ of that wonderful venue. A legendary venue that's gone but will never be forgotten.
  2. And mine. In my top ten that is, a struggle to dance to for me, my legs are long and harder to get them up to speed whereas yours my friend are the right length.
  3. I'm pretty sure that Billy Arnell finished up at £2,500.00
  4. File this one from Vernon Greene under Wigan Casino near misses. Kev Roberts once told me he found a copy of this in the states, he didn't know it at the time and he couldn't wait to play it to the Wigan Casino faithful at the weekend. All the excitement on the way back to the UK was unbearable, he'd just discovered the next big thing, he played it and it cleared the dancefloor, tumbleweed the lot. What a bugger. Similar story with Russ and Sammy Lee "What goes around" now residing in Baz's box.
  5. (24204) Barbara & Brenda - Don't Wait Up For Mama - YouTube Baz I always loved this one, never covered up as far as I'm aware but still a great record and hasn't been overplayed Some prefer the flipside but this side does it for me.
  6. Two for sale today, one is a 7" floor filler and the other one is a modern soul rare groove classic 12" rarity Gladys Knight "No one could love you more" Tamla Motown 7" EX £150.00 ****SOLD***** Kareem "Never give up on love" Exploding Plastic Records NM £100.00 (was £150) Considered one of the modern soul must haves mainly because of the Radio Mix that samples Ronn Matlock's "I can't forget about you" giving the record that rare groove feel. Released only in the UK in 1997, this is NM vinyl, the sleeve has some slight wear (see pics) for sleeve condition. I can accept paypal but as friends & family please to avoid the fees if possible or add 4% to cover the fees. or Bank Transfer Postage Rates 1st class signed for is £4.00 for the 7" single or £7.50 Special Next Day Delivery insured for up to £500 1st class signed for is £5.25 for the 12" single I'm sorry but it's UK only on this one Thanks for looking Bob
  7. Dave Holts tape recording of Richards Wigan set that was played on BVAN during the lockdown sounded great. The real identity of the cover up names/ titles on your flyer Baz takes some working out. Some of those records are still played in the rare rooms to this day. I'll bet there's a competition there some where lol.
  8. Shaun, When Al Wilson did the Cleethorpes Weekender a few years ago he was obviously made aware of the other Al Wilson "Help Me" In his set he told the audience that he wasn't the same guy who recorded "Help me" but he said I'll give it a go, the band had practiced it beforehand. Al was helped by the audience and he was great.
  9. The room looks totally unrecognisable since the last time I was there a few years ago. I keep looking at the pics trying to work out if it's the same venue. It looks like a proper niter venue now, much better than before.
  10. The Beeb could try and attract a mass audience and call it Once upon a time at The Albert Hall. You talk about making you laugh, the jokes right there.
  11. Let me get this right, you're judging a 2 hour concert from 2 minutes of footage that somebody in the audience from behind the stage has recorded on their phone. I have a feeling that the Beeb will have done a better job when they broadcast it in August.
  12. A fabulous documentary on Netflix called "Making a murderer" that follows the unjust IMO arrest of Steve Avery. It shows how the corrupt Mantovoc County sheriffs department hid evidence, a proper stich up. I've thoroughly enjoyed all of the Gomorrah the series. I've just 3 more episodes to go of the final season 5, so that will be my late night entertainment for the next 3 nights.
  13. "Escape at Dannemora" starring Benicio Del Toro, Patricia Arquetta & Paul Dano Directed by Ben Stiller but definitely not a comedy, It was broadcast in 2018 and well worth seeking out. Italian crime drama from 2019 "ZeroZeroZero", Gabriel Byrne is the most recognisable actor in it. The action follows a consignment of cocaine from Mexico to Italy and all of the violence that comes with it.
  14. Russ was being Ironic wasn't he, well that's how I read it because who covers up records nowadays. The post made me chuckle.
  15. Paul, Didn't you do a play "Once upon a time in Wigan" Why Wigan
  16. I'm pretty certain this list was posted up on here whilst the concert was in full swing. I remember praying that "Temptations calling my name" is on the same level of excellence as the others that came before it. I wasn't disappointed
  17. I must have missed that KFC advert with the Philharmonic Orchestra. You've just reminded me to get my Sound Burger (King} fixed then I can play my OVO I wish I still had Bob & Fred (Big Mack) to play on it
  18. It's okay because the conversation will end tonight as Wednesdays are usually dominated by the results on Manships auction.
  19. Ah I didn't realise that Paul S was the guy who ended up cut into pieces and stuffed in a suitcase in Dead Mans Shoes. Classic Film.
  20. Of course not, if you just listened to the match/concert later without looking at the result/reviews beforehand.
  21. I think that most of the people who listened to it live had a slight advantage over the ones who listened to it after the event. Imagine listening on the radio to your favourite football club playing at Wembley and your hoping they don't lose heavily but there's a very good chance that they will. The match kicks off, the goals start going in, I can't quite believe we're winning as the ball keeps hitting the back of their net. We score from the kick off MVPS, then the Drifter from 25yds, Lee David 3-0 Jimmy Beaumont 4-0, Yvonne Baker 5-0, Gladys Knight 6-0 etc My neighbour missed the match live but listens to it afterwards knowing the score, all his mates told him how great it was. Not the same is it. It's only live once.
  22. Well worth the licence fee. I'm so glad I stayed in tonight
  23. You didn't say a word Vula Malinga take a bow
  24. I know I just realised when The Vibrations just came on
  25. Sounded just as good as Timi Yuro
