  1. Welcome to an exclusive club Maria, only 3 members up to now, you, me & John Manship! Pretty cool eh. Seriously though, still waiting for the soundclip of Madeline's version of Help Yourself. Anyone got one to post up?

Agreed. Either that or a bit of self justice. Speaking from experience here as i had my collection stolen from home (nothing else took) in the early 80s. Still haven't found out who it was but if i ever do i wouldn't think twice about sorting them out 1 way or another....
  3. Shirley's is the classic version we all know but i think Madeline's version has more guts as Matt & John point out. Imagine hearing them both for the 1st time, gotta go for Madeline's. Going slightly off topic i know but is anyone familiar with Madeline Bell's version of Jimmy James's Help Yourself that she recorded on Philips? Absoulety brilliant version IMO & i cant believe that it don't get played out. Just wish i knew how to post soundclips up but i'm sure someone out there could put it up, you got it Kenny?
  4. Rumor has it that 3 of the demolition crew walked out of the building shortly before demolition with boxes full of unreleased acetates. Local police are on the lookout for Mr Manship, Mr Brown & Mr Moerer

Martin Barnfather's a big name innit? loads of letters in that (some good anagrams too)
  7. Now you've mentioned Jazz Funk how about "Dancing in outer space - Atmosfear? The dirtiest bassline you'll ever hear, Love it...

Was just about to say Starvue. Nice to see Lattimore getting so many mentions, really like "Goodbye Heartache" by him, not really rare groove though, more 80s boogie. Nice to see you mention Barbara Lynn's You make me so hot Tez, great tune. Been listening to Willie Fisher - "Put your lovin on me" a lot recently, so under rated...
  9. Bill Withers - Harlem...
  10. Another one here. Will he ever learn.... https://cgi.ebay.com/RARERECORD-by-the-AD-L...1QQcmdZViewItem
  11. Couldn't agree more Pete. They play far too much Northern at em

Not much difference really (apart from the price) just a longer break in the middle. Seem to go for 12s though with things like that as the sound quality is far better. Only problem is they're bloody heavy when DJ'ing Talking about DJ'ing we're thinking of doing a one off Clifton Hall tribute night at Bar 10 later in the year so how ya fixed for coming down & doing a spot for us? Know you've got the sounds, be good to have a good jam & re-live a few memories, might even ask Mr Mannion to come along as well. BTW Adrian does the door & helps us with the equipment so the links are there. Fancy it? Lata, Mart...

Know you work in Sheffield Darren so try Cool Wax records in Orchard Square (ask for Coxy, other kids in there aint that clued up). It's where i got mine from & it's been repressed on Nervous since then. If they're no help Robbie Grants e mail addy is mailto:robgrant@blueyonder.co.uk & his phone no is 01324 634478. Finally if you have no Joi, (sorry for the pun!) come to our next Modernism on Sat Feb 4th & i might find summat to swap for mine if you need it that badly & at least you'll get to hear it BTW ya still got that King Tutt 12"
  14. So this is where the northern scene is heading is it? Might be some jobs going for DJ'ing spots. Go & stand in that queue behind Mr Levine
  15. Was great upstairs at Tiffanys in the early 80s (room called treetops i think). Seen Summertime 12s on orange NIA & gold NIA labels (mine's orange) but didn't realise it came out of Kenya. The 7" versions good but the 12" knocks spots off it. Just out of curiousity how much do you want for it?
  16. Great news this Rob, hope they're going to do a full set & not just 3 or 4 songs.

Sorry to be the bearer of such sad news but just found out about the death of Lou Rawls. Another legend lost... https://www.newsday.com/entertainment/music...music-headlines
  18. Not that Roger. Brett tends to get a bit mixed up sometimes. He was probably eating some Belgian chocolates with a picture of Father Christmas on the box lid
  19. Bloody hell Brett, ya got me scratching my head now. Don't think i've played anything Belgium in the last year or anything by a guy with a beard for that matter. Great list by the way Dodger, don't think there's much i can add to that lot. Keep up the good work mate
  20. How much to get in Paddy?
  21. Go on then, what's the line up Paddy?
