  1. New to me that Pete. Interesting to see Richard "Dimples" Fields involvement. Looking forwards to hearing the soundclip but do me a favour mate, put it up on't site player, thanks Mart...
  2. Could always take one of these with you Steve
  3. Aw Rachel, Just read this & was about to get my new shiny moderators stick out & rap some knuckles but you beat me to it. Never mind, i'm sure i won't have too long to wait Probably showing my ignorance here but i don't know this. Love Oscar's late 70s stuff like Wind Me Up, Let Me Do It etc. When was it made? Soundclip anybody? Mart...
  4. Out every weekend normally Kenny (money & lift permitting) Like i said it was a good night Ken. Goodnight Ken
  5. On the night i attended it was 2/3 70s crossover & 1/3 more up to date modern sounds. If you're into that sort of stuff it's your kind of venue. Sort of place where the music comes 1st but having said that it's a nice room with a good sized floor for the size of the room & cozy surroundings. If you want the usual anthems & glitzy fliers etc it's not that sort of night. Last Friday was my 1st visit but i'll definately be going again. Can see it becoming one of my regular haunts. Mart...
  6. Agreed on the Funky Company Roger. As for Vincent Montana, the man's got an uncanny knack of making old tracks sound new & new tracks sound old in a dancefloor friendly kind of way. Great stuff Getting back to the original topic. The Legend track was played twice on Saturday at Modernism. The single was played by Kev Briscoe & like i said earlier it was the biggest tune of the night, the Freddie Estefez remix was played by me & went down like a lead balloon (shows what i know as i prefer this version). The main reason for my original post was to hopefully introduce some new music to a crowd who predominatly prefer older music in the hope it might just give a bit of interest into newer tracks & hopefully open the doors to a few more punters. Not easy i know but giant Oak trees etc. Funny thing is i'm not a fan of John Legend but i just feel this track has got a certain something that might appeal to a broader crowd. Just out of curiousity Roger, what did you think of John Legends collaboration with Ray Charles from a few months ago? Mart...
  7. Don't Shine - Luther fall into this category though Rog.
  8. Totally agree with you 100% Roger. Put up the original post as a general outlook of the year so far from a man in the street point of view. Sure you can see that from the Angie Stone reference. Willing to have a little wager with you though, bet at the end of the year when all the silly posts go up it's right up there with Luther & Alexander O'Niell & it's gonna be the biggest seller by far. The stakes for the bet? How about a king size Mars bar. Was certainly the biggest tune from a dancefloor point of view tonight at Modernism & i bet it was at SU as well if it was played. Not only that, it must have something going for it if Tony Rounce hates it with a vengance Hope this post makes a bit of sense, just that i've had a few bottles of Bud so it'll probably get edited in't morning after the asprins have kicked in
  9. Great venue. Great system. Totally great music. Great company but same result Sean Really pisses me off when folks can't be bothered to get off there arses & support quality nights like this. Know there's a lot on at the moment but surely this venue deserves more support than it got last night. Thing is it will be the folks who could'nt be arsed to attend venues like this who will be the 1st to moan when there's nowhere to go as nights like this have to shut due to lack of punters through the doors. Makes my fcuking blood boil at times......
  10. Guess that was the kind of answer i expected from a Paul Anka fan Might be wrong here hence the question mark but i can see this crossing over into northern rooms in a similar fashion to stuff like Angie Stone etc. Be interesting to see if someone like Sam picks up on it in the coming months. As for comparing JL to Marvin Gaye fair comment but how many artists stand up to MG regardless of era? My tune of the year? Ask me at the end of December but the frontrunner so far has to be Unified Tribe's album (i think!)
  11. Tune of the year so far on the modern scene maybe? 1st link is John Legend on Oprah singing Save Room. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hC4w2FrCTVs...ated&search=No prizes for what it sounds like. 2nd link is to the Frankie Eztefez remix (takes a couple of seconds to load, click on save room on the music player on the right) Let me know what you all think (say it for ya Baz, disco s###e ) Mart...
  12. Bet you can't remember what Crofty's shop was called on Wellgate Sean & i don't mean Strads. BTW you're giving your age away with the last post
  13. Bloody tipical. You wait for hours for a Buss & then four arrive at once Know TTWF was 1st played at Cleggy but it always reminds me of the late 70s/early 80s South Yorks venues. Never seen a demo, any out there?
  14. Would have thought about £350 to £400 for a Thelma Lindsey w/d but don't the issue look a lot better & about 1/2 the price as well. Sure i saw a thread on here a while back about it.
  15. Time's don't change much Ken. Got a lift in't back of Russ's van a couple of weeks ago. 1st nighter was just the same as you, on a South Yorks bus paying a 2p childs fare to Sheffields KGB & it wasn't long before we were all getting to Wigan on platform tickets.
  16. Great record Been chasing this for a couple of years but now Sam's playing it it's gone way out of my price range.
  17. Plenty of info here Shane https://www.dreamgirls.dreamworks.com/ Any truth in the rumors that Beyonce is dating Andrew Castle? Hope they get married
  18. --> QUOTE(mark.b @ Sep 15 2006, 06:09 PM) link hard to tell really pt 1 and pt 2 does part 2 fade in or just start because it isan instrumental is'nt it. mark Just dug it out Mark & the vocal's on the b side & the label says part 2 instrumental & the inst is on the other side & the label says vocal part 1. Funny thing is the labels match the run out matrixes so someone at PM records was having a bad day. Both sides start with a couple of drum rolls & fade out the same. Mart...
  19. Must be a bit of a South Yorkshire thing but like Sean & Darran (awake 502) stated Mack Simmons stated a great track indeed Funny thing is both copies i have had have had the labels reversed, were they all the same? Must give it a dusting off next Saturday.
  20. Agreed Ian. Wikipedia a great service & a good general description of the Northern scene. Fair description of the Modern scene too IMO. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_soul
  21. Funny this as i've got a great version by "Robin S" on her From Now On album. Came out in 1997 on Big Beat & also features a great version of the Phillis Hyman classic "You Know How To Love Me" Thoroughly recommended
  22. No difference at all Gabriel. It appears you are fluent in speaking both.
  23. $50 for 8 tracks? Bloody scandalous £15,000 for 1 track? OK i suppose
  24. Cheers Jordi Roughly tallies up with what others have told me. Still got no info on Midnight - It's Never Too Late yet though. Mart...
  25. Hi Bri See you & a few others seem to be experts in all things Eurovision . Always said your bro's taste was better than yours Thankfully the Midnight record i aquired has no such connections but i'd still like to know what it's worth (not that it's for sale as it's rather good). You can have a listen here on Lotusland's site https://www.lotuslandrecords.net/ Just click on 45s & scroll down the page. See you & your kid on Friday at the Pond mate Mart...
