  1. Wish i'd known this before we booked you Sean Tell ya what Quinvy, i wish i was as misinformed as Sean. What he don't know ain't worth knowing
  2. Put the Modernism tag on hold for now Sean. Somehow it don't sound right for stuff that's over 30 years old if you know what i mean. Gonna concentrate on Quality (hey we got you kicking things off) ahead of Quantity at the new venue & probably only have 4 or 5 nights a year & hopefully try not to clash with anything else. As for the music policy, gonna try to keep it as varied as possible playing stuff from the 70s through to present day releases & if we get the opportunity to bring in DJ's who are new to the South Yorkshire folks we're up for it. Anyway back on topic. Seems to me that crossover is an uncomfatable partner on the Modern scene & the Northern scene too for many. The majority of the Northern crowd like there Northern with a bit of Crossover on the side & the same goes for most on the Modern scene too. Before anybody comes on to shout me down i think the Crown at Spondon proves my point perfectly. Central location, great room & most importantly bloody great music but it dosen't fit under the umbrella's we pigeonhole as Northern or Modern. Just a shame folks can't judge a record on it's merits rather than the year it was made.
  3. Will pm it you Rod. Can all site members not to post mp3s up on site & to send via mp3. Know it's a pain with the clip player down but it'll be back soon. Thanks, Mart...
  4. You ain't seen our new room yet Sean. Should be a cracker with your good self on alongside Brett Franklin who's rumored to have one or two nice crossover tunes Getting tickets through tomorrow so i'll send you some. Roll on the 27th Jan.
  5. If the tools are there then use e'm if you want to. End of the day it is 2006 & if you can enhance the sound quality then go for it. Currently playing Thieves In The Night by The African Twins in my spots at-8, yes you read it right-8 & if my 1210s would go slower i'd play it at about -10. Why? simply because it's too fast (about 130 bpm) & it sounds better to my ears slowed down & is more dancefloor friendly. We're not getting any younger you know & these old bones can't keep the pace like they used to. Will post the normal version & the slowed (& edited) versions up if anyones interested when the clip players back up & you'll see what i mean. Another good example is Don't Break That Rule by Marvell Love. Sounded great in the late 70s/early 80s at the normal speed but so much better for todays scene at about -6. Think Sean Hampsey mentioned this on site before but can't find it but i'm sure he'll confirm it.
  6. Oops. Should have seen it what with bieng a mod i guess Slap on't wrists due. As for buying it i think i'll leave it for the 60s collectors.

  19. Gonna kick the Soulful House thread off with a couple of 1 hour downloads on me. Kinda works better that way. 1st one was put together by David Hulmes. 2nd one was me copying some classic stuff from vinyl last night & before anyone says anything i know i can't mix. Takes me all my time fading in & out Both of the links are over 60mb so if space is at a premium you can just listen on the links without downloading.

  23. That's a truly evil thing to do Roger, evil ya hear. I'm sorry for saying it at ours when you & Cliff followed me
  24. You're a collector who occasionally dj's though Neil. Probably put my foot in it here as i am too Kind of leads to another topic here. Someone asks you to play a track you don't like & before you all say you don't own any tracks you don't like lets say it's a b side of a track you do like & it's in your play box. Do you play it?
  25. Probably right about the so called major dj's Chris but i'm pretty sure they would all class themselves as collectors too if asked. We all have stuff in our play boxes that we don't play at home but there's the stuff we all collect simply because we love it. How many of the tracks in your dj box do you listen to at home? If you're like me not many i bet.
