  3. B8ll8cks Mannion. Got a reggae section in Fopp to try to get this back on topic (not trying too hard though)
  4. Funny that cos once i played My Conversation at the end of one of our Modernism nights. Wanted to hear it on a good loud system & thought it would clear the room but every bugger came back & started dancing. Sort of turned into our signature tune after that. Other guys who run it with me wern't too keen at 1st but got my way in the end. Can feel a soulful reggae thread starting up soon.
  5. Brilliant that Pete 1st time i've heard the long version. Just love Keith 'Slim' Smiths voice. Racking my brains now, heard loads of different versions over the years but 1 sticks in my mind. Had it on a blank handwritten label years ago & it just said "1 fingered piano player". Any ideas? Seem to recall Freddie McGregor as well. Any more apart from the obvious JD version?
  6. Got a Fopp record shop in Sheffield Pete & have had some very nice stuff off them over the years. Always worth checking out the clearance stuff as there's always bargains to be had & you find stuff that other major record shops just don't stock. Had a couple of Sounds Of Blackness cd's off them for a fiver each but well worth checking for compilations. Seen all the Kent & Goldmine stuff in there for a fiver. Best thing though is some of the clearance books in there. Couple of years ago i picked up the current Manship price guide for a fiver & have seen stuff like KR's top 500 for £5 & the In Crowd book for £10. Great part of Sheffield to visit if looking for records as besides Fopp there's a couple of dance music shops that always have some discounted older stuff in + just round the corner there's Spin City records who specialise in vinyl. Owned by a friend of mine called Andy who loves his Northern & his wife Pauline likes a bit of Modern. Had some real nice stuff out of there over the years & it's more of a social thing really as you always bump into someone in there. Box after box of vinyl to rummage through & quite a big Ska/Reggae stock as well. Never found me a copy of My Conversation - The Uniques though.
  7. New fangled gadget that replaced my stereogram
  8. Works for me but buy 2 sets then you can play stuff through your hi fi as the sound qualitys better.
  9. Had a Herbert Hunter/Bill purcell in my sales box for about a year & couldn't give it away. Probably had it too cheap at £20 so i might up the price a bit to sell it

  13. Oh well, it's Saturday night, i'm stopping in & i'm bored silly so i thought i'd kick this off for a bit of fun. We've all got e'm, we all see e'm for sale & we all overlook e'm. The tunes you see for sale week in week out in every sales box you look through. Don't matter what era they're from as long as they're CHEAP AS CHIPS. Off ya go
  14. Well i went to a no smoking venue last night & i must admit it wasn't that bad. The room the soul night was in is used as a restaurant in the week & is 100% no smoking. Totally agree with that (unless Levines at the next table, then smoking should be compulsory ). There was a seperate reception area where smokers could go & still hear the music & we wern't bothering the non smokers, perfect soloution. Thing is in April (ban starts early for restaurants) this will also be illegal & we will have to go outside. Now where's the common sense in that
  15. You could always smoke bootlegged fags Pete
  16. The cost to the health service is about 1 billion a year Simon. As for it being anti-social in days gone by it used to be anti-social to not smoke so who decides these things? Totally agreed on the pointless need to drive everywhere though. Always makes me laugh when folks jump in there gas guzzling monsters & drive to the gym. What do they do when they get there? Jump on a bloody running machine. Why not just run to the gym? Another thing, why don't kids walk to school any more?
  17. Be interesting to see what promoters think of this. My personal view is that some venues will suffer while others with access to balconys etc will benefit from it. As a co promoter i think it's ridiculous as it wasn't in the current governments manifesto & i'm sure quite a few people won't vote for them next time round. Would have agreed with it if a bit of common sense had been used, for example a ban in places that serve food or bars with more than 1 room having a smoking area & a smoke free area. There are 13 million smokers in Britian & the average smoker gets through 20 a day, most popular brand is B&H at about £5 a pack of which £4 is tax. That adds up to a whopping 18.9 billion pounds. If the government really want us to stop perhaps we all should but who's going to pay for the shortfall in revenue? The non smokers, thats who. VAT on kids clothes, another increase in fuel duty, couple of pence in the pound on income tax? It's gotta come from somewhere. If the government really want us to stop perhaps it should be banned outright but somehow i don't think thats going to happen. Think about it...
