  1. Really sorry to hear this Andy. I know how much work Pauline & yourself have put into Spin City over the years. Remember the early days up on the balcony above the market & the stall inside like they were yesterday before you got the 'proper' shop. Will be in before you finally pull down the shutters for the final time for one last haggle over prices (how come I never win?). Don't know where i'm going to go for my Northern 'v' Modern arguments with Barry now. Hope to see you both sometime over the holiday (Qube on the 28th possibly) for a couple of beers. Be sure to send my best wishes to Pauline & once again, really sorry to hear of this. Mart....
  2. Should be something on the link below to wet your appetite Andy. /index.php?showtopic=56856&st=0&start=0
  3. Should be there lift permitting Ray. Be sure to play Midnight cos every time I play it someone always asks about it or comes & has a nosey at the decks. Might help you get a good price for the spare. My comission price? Guess i'll settle for a beer
  4. Tough record to put a price on I guess Ray. Far as I know it only came out on Unison in Canada. Fell lucky with mine & got it really cheap & only seen 1 copy for sale since & that was £100 but it's bound to go higher when folks pick up on it. Posted it up over a year ago on the link below.
  5. Couple more prizes have been added to the pot. Andy 'Tats' Taylor has kindly donated a £25 HMV voucher & my boss has given us a rather large bottle of whisky. Can someone else post something on this thread please as I feel a right plank answering my own posts all the bloody time
  6. Anybody got an mp3 of this that they could kindly pass on to me via pm please?
  7. On the prize front we have been offered some more goodies from Fish at FER, the Bury Town Hall crew & the guy's at Soul Intent. Not sure what yet but i'm sure it will be decent stuff & your help is greatly appreciated.
  8. Just received a PM off Kirsty offering us 4 tickets for the new years eve all nighter in Stoke at the Kings Hall as this falls before her charity night in February so she's passed them on to us. Many thanks go out to Kirsty for the kind gesture & also to Kev Roberts for giving them to Kirsty in the 1st place.
  9. Big thank you to Mark Randle for kindly donating a couple of passes for Soul Purpose on Feb 3rd when Adam is guesting
  10. Just thought i'd better follow this up by saying Modernism is a Modern Soul night playing 70's to current releases so any prizes offered should really appeal to that crowd. Anyone with stuff aimed at a more Northern crowd can donate things to Kirsty's appeal on this link. /index.php?showtopic=60425
  11. Charity time again at Modernism but this time we're after a few of you generous promoters & record dealers etc to help us out a bit by donating a couple of free door passes or CD's & records etc for a very worthy cause. Our original plan was thrown into turmoil for the best reason ever as we were going to have a collection on the night for a good friend of E's daughter who was suffering from Leukemia. Following some lengthy chemotherapy she has gone into remission & thankfully all indications are looking good for her future. With this good news we decided to go with the same format as last year & have a collection for Rotherham Hospital's Special Baby Care Unit then someone suggested doing a raffle & we got offered some goodies for fundraisers but we need some more. The special baby care unit deal with extremely premature babies & years ago these kids would have had next to no chance of survival but these days a large percentage thrive & survive but funding is always a struggle so every penny counts & helps to save kids lives. Already in the pot are a couple of Bridlington weekender passes from Rob & Karen Wigley & some goodies from the bar owner Stewart (many thanks guy's). Only thing is we have to move pretty quickly on this as the night is on Dec 29th so we only have just over 2 weeks to sort everything out. If you can help in any way please reply to this thread or via pm or give me a bell on 07761 496979. Not using this thread as promotion for the night but don't worry as that's coming in another thread. Many thanks in advance, Mart...
  12. Just noticed a Foolish Fool has been reading this thread. Looks like we're in trouble now lads.
  13. Don't know what you'd do without me /index.php?showtopic=61822
  14. You mean thats not Tat's on't left
  15. Too easy. Tat's (Bill) Taylor on't left, Chris (Ben)Forrest on't right, Rob (Little Weed)Wigley in't middle
  16. Take it by newies you mean 30 year old oldies Go on then Simon. Start a soundclip thread off in the Media forum or have I got to do everything around here
  17. Have a read of this Tommy from Big Daddy's magazine. Probably the best review of the Northern scene i've read from someone who is actually not on it. https://www.soul-source.co.uk/rare-northern-soul-articles/big-daddies-guide-northern
  18. Work it out Baz. Average smoker buy's a pack of 20 a day at just over £5 a pack (most popular brand B&H) £4 of that is tax (govt figures convieniently fail to include things like VAT) 13 million smokers so multiply £4 by 13 million = £52 million a day. Multiply that by 365 & you get 18.9 BILLION. Now just think if we all stopped in protest. Where would the missing revenue come from? VAT on kids clothes, another fuel increase, or perhaps a rise in income tax? Non smokers should be welcoming us with open arms for saving them all that extra tax as they'd be the 1st to moan if we did all stop & it hit them in their pockets.
  19. Great thread & some very valid points from both sides. Here are some views from me as I was DJ'ing last night with Soul Sam. I finished my spot by playing 'Lovers Melody' by Will Downing featuring Roy Ayers off a CD as thats all it is available on (2007 release on CD only). Sam was on next & started his set with Lil Major Williams on original vinyl (williams). Both tracks filled the floor & no one came up to the decks to have a nosey & both tracks sounded great. Earlier in my spot I played the Michael Proctor & the Muthafunkaz remix of Fall down off a CDR. This is the only format it is available on as it was re-mixed for Julia Nicoll & myself by Barry Sharp & we are the only people with a copy. Should I not play it & deprive people of hearing & dancing to it? Later on Sam played 2 tracks off carved vinyl. 1 was King Moses, a record that Sam previously owned & as far as i'm aware is a 1 off. I think part of the sales agreement was that it was ok for Sam to do this. Again it filled the floor. The 2nd carved track was the Brian Trappert remix of Johnny Taylors 'What About My Love'. Another unreleased track that as far as i'm aware does not exist on any format other than mp3 copys. I also have a copy of the mp3 but seldom play it out as the intro is way too long but the carved copy of Sams has been edited to make it more DJ friendly. Again it filled the floor. Later on the Northern room upstairs closed as it was only licenced to 1am so there was a full room downstairs of both Northern & Modern fans. Sam got a request for Flame n King - Ho Happy Day. He did not have his original copy on NYCS with him so he played the Grapevine copy from out of his sales box. Yet again it filled the floor. Sam also played Joseph Webster off original vinyl. As most of you know this is a 4 figure record & Sams copy got cracked in an accident & is sellotaped together on the b side. Now if that was you would you play it & risk further damage or get it carved? One final point, Sheffield is a very anti car city & we were parked a couple of hundred yards from the venue & the sight of me in my late 40s carrying a 12" box, a 7" box & a CD box & Sam in his mid 60s carrying a 7" box, a 12" box & a sales box was not a pretty one. Lap tops - No thanks but common sense - Yes please.
  20. Was definitely played at Clifton Hall by Searling.
  21. Does this mean you only buy originals that have been booted? Each to his own I suppose...
  22. Covered as Merlin & the Magicians or summat like that i think.
  23. So much for 'One Nation Under A Groove'
  24. Novelty patches, novelty badges, novelty number plates, novelty fashion - baggy trousers, cornish pastie shoes, etc, novelty accesories - watches, cufflinks, etc, novelty nik naks - birthday cards etc, novelty events in shopping centres & funny shaped towers, novelty top 500 books (issue 27 in a shop near you soon), Does anybody buy records any more? Now thats a novel idea.
